The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two-Chapter 74: Ethan Arrives in Time to Save Yvette Aston
Hotel.
Ethan Grant slept very lightly at night because he had experienced insomnia for a long time in the past and relied on sleeping pills to fall asleep.
On the bedside table were the sleeping pills Christopher Carter had prepared in advance, but today Ethan didn’t take them. All that occupied his mind was Yvette Aston...
It’s quite strange, Ethan had never thought he’d be attracted to a woman.
She spoke so indifferently, mentioning that her left ear couldn’t hear anymore.
She said she had attempted suicide many times.
Without crying or making a fuss, as if she were narrating a trivial matter.
He glanced at the time; it was already three in the morning.
Rubbing his brow, Ethan felt restless.
Why does he keep unconsciously thinking about that woman...
The phone screen showed a call, but in sleep mode, the phone wouldn’t even vibrate.
...
Suburbs.
Yvette Aston shivered as she looked at her phone, her body trembling almost to the point of exhaustion.
"Miss, let’s call the police." The night joggers were scared, thinking she seemed to have lost too much blood...
Yvette’s eyes were red as she stubbornly kept dialing Ethan’s number.
Finally, on the third attempt, Ethan answered. "Hello?"
His voice was indifferent, sounding a bit hoarse and tired.
"Ethan Grant..." Yvette’s emotions were a bit agitated, her words tinged with a deep sobbing tone, but she couldn’t voice any words afterwards.
Over the phone, Ethan’s breathing tightened as he sat up abruptly, tentatively speaking. "Where are you?"
It was Yvette.
He recognized Yvette’s voice.
"This is..." Yvette asked weakly, her vision already darkening.
A passerby quickly took the phone. "This is the city outskirts, Outer Ring Third Road. Your friend is in bad shape, covered in blood. Should I send her to the hospital?"
"Stop the bleeding, I’m on my way."
After hanging up, Ethan first called 911, grabbed his car keys from the table, and hurried out.
He had a premonition that Yvette was in trouble.
Today, Christopher mentioned that the Bell Family was coming to Montville, and Ethan knew they might not let Yvette go.
But Yvette had always been with Henry Jennings, and he hadn’t expected anything serious to happen.
Cursing with frustration, Ethan drove towards the outskirts.
The caller said she was covered in blood...
When Ethan arrived, the ambulance hadn’t yet arrived.
Anxiously getting out of the car, Ethan saw a shivering figure curled up sitting in the roadside bushes.
Her face was very pale, like a paper doll.
Her feet were bare, the tops already frozen blue and purple, and her toes were covered in blood.
Yvette’s eyes looked hollow as she stared into the distance, but as soon as she saw Ethan get out of the car, she burst into tears.
He ran out from the car’s headlights, looking like...a godly figure coming to save her.
Was there really a deity who hadn’t abandoned her?
But this was only temporary.
Ethan couldn’t protect her forever, and she was well aware of that.
It was nothing more than short-lived use.
"Ethan Grant..." Yvette’s voice was hoarse.
Ethan stood before Yvette, his breath rapid.
Quickly removing his outer jacket and draping it over Yvette, Ethan pulled her into his arms. "The ambulance will arrive soon; hold on."
Yvette finally allowed herself to faint in relief; she had held on for so long.
He came, he actually came.
In truth, Yvette hadn’t placed much hope on Ethan coming.
She thought that if Ethan didn’t show up, she would choose to commit suicide. After she died, The Aston Family, the Bell Family, and the Grant Family would probably stop targeting Caden Summers and Summers.
But Ethan came...
Her breathing grew weaker as Yvette collapsed into Ethan’s arms, unconscious.
So warm...
He was really so warm.
Ethan’s breath halted as Yvette’s body was too cold.
In such cold weather, Montville’s temperature at three in the morning could drop to minus six or seven degrees; even puddles froze over, yet she sat here barefoot. How long had she been waiting for him?
"Don’t be afraid, it won’t be serious."
In Yvette’s ears, Ethan’s voice sounded distant, yet exceptionally clear.
So warm.
She instinctively snuggled further into Ethan’s embrace, feeling genuinely warm.
"Yvette, stay awake. You can’t sleep now." Ethan urged Yvette to remain awake; with excessive blood loss, sleeping was dangerous.
Yvette was too sleepy.
"So tired..." Yvette choked out, her tears scalding.
She was really exhausted.
"To atone...until when?" She murmured inquisitively.
As if asking the messenger of hell, when could she be free from atoning.
"You are not guilty."
With all her strength, Yvette tried to open her eyes upon hearing someone declare her innocence.
In an instant, amid countless hands from hell tearing at her, she seemed to hear a voice of salvation.
The ambulance arrived, Ethan carried Yvette onto the vehicle, never releasing her from his embrace.
The doctor and nurse anxiously examined the wound on Yvette’s neck, gasping in shock. "Has the police been called?"
Ethan nodded. "The police will come to the hospital."
Ethan’s expression was grim. With things reaching this point, the Bell Family wouldn’t get away easily.
...
Abandoned factory.
Not long after Yvette escaped, Stellan Aston turned back halfway, driving straight into the warehouse doors.
Breathing heavily, Stellan had a crazy notion, that he was searching for Yvette.
But Yvette was no longer in the warehouse.
The warehouse was empty except for a pool of blood.
Stellan’s fingers tingled as he lit a cigarette and turned to follow the blood traces.
Found nothing.
Frustrated, he punched the car window, Stellan’s mind replaying Yvette’s words, "My surname isn’t Aston, it’s Summers."
...
Montville, business association banquet.
At three in the afternoon, the banquet opened.
As the host of the event, Henry Jennings naturally arrived early.
Ben Ziegler looked panicked, wanting to inform Henry about something bad happening to Yvette, that she wasn’t at the villa but was stopped by Old Master Jennings’ men.
"Assistant Ziegler, the old master wants to see you."
Ben’s heart skipped a beat, sensing trouble was brewing.
If he was called away, Henry wouldn’t find out about Yvette’s accident.
He wanted to shout to make Henry aware, but feared that Yvette wasn’t as important to Henry and shouting would end his career.
"Assistant Ziegler, if you offend the old master, you won’t have a place to stay in Montville." One of Old Master Jennings’ men warned, covering Ben’s mouth before he could speak, forcing him into a car.
"You guys are too much!" Ben shouted weakly. "Using such despicable means against a woman, does your conscience not bother you!"
"Assistant Ziegler, you’ve followed President Jennings for many years, but haven’t learned a crucial lesson: mind your own business. What? You slept with Yvette too?" In the car’s passenger seat was Jayden Grant.
Ben’s breath caught as he instantly realized this was a plot involving Jayden Grant, Stellan Aston, and the Bell Family with Old Master Jennings.
Yvette...a woman lacking power and support, trampled into the mud, how could she resist?
"Jayden Grant, you were once her fiancé, don’t you fear regret for treating her this way?" Ben angrily confronted Jayden. "What wrong did she commit? Born into a swapped life—is this her fault, or was being raped her fault? You only vent your anger on her, yet dare not confront those who hurt her—coward!"
