Chapter 88: Don’t Reveal Our Identities To Anyone

At the same time, Elvis also felt an inexplicable sense of being watched and turned around. He saw from a distance a slightly familiar figure heading towards their direction.

The man’s steps were cautious and his gaze never moved away from them like a lion going after its prey with dogged determination.

All of a sudden, he grabbed hold of Eleanor’s hands as soon as his mind interpreted him to be the man at the mall.

His eyes narrowed with a frown. "What is he doing here?"

"Who is it?" Eleanor asked, following the direction of Elvis’s gaze and also saw a man staring intently at them.

"Someone that should not catch up with us,’ Elvis replied, his eyes still fixed on the man approaching.

"It’s time to leave Eleanor." There was no time for dilly dallying.

"But I want to stay some more," Eleanor objected. "Why are we leaving so suddenly? Everyone is still here and the party hasn’t fully ended."

"I’ll explain it to you when we get to the car." In a few minutes the man will catch up with them if they don’t leave soon.

"But mummy is not here yet," Eleanor grumbled in an attempt to stall for more time.

"Didn’t you hear when she said she would be working and might not make it here to pick us?" Elvis snapped unintentionally.

At this rate, how is he going to escape from that weird man if they keep on with the question and answer session.

He would have left long ago but he couldn’t leave Eleanor behind. He had promised Mrs Carr before she went to sit with other parents in the main hall to take care of her at the party.

He was yet to find out the purpose of that man, and until then, he will not expose his sister to any form of risk. Who knew what that man would do to her if he gets to know that she was his sister?

Sophia who had just returned from saying farewell to a friend who was leaving with her parents, happened to witness this and was surprised.

"I hope there is no problem?" she inquired softly.

"None that we can’t avoid if we leave now." Elvis replied curtly.

He saw that the man was a few steps away from them and a flush crept up his cheeks, a telltale sign of his nervousness.

He tugged on Eleanor’s hands, his eyes pleading with her. "Trust me Eleanor, we have to leave now."

Eleanor had never seen her brother this nervous. She had no choice but to agree, however reluctantly.

With an apologetic smile she turned to her friend, "Sorry Sophia, we have to leave now. We will see you in school tomorrow."

"Ok," responded Sophia, still clueless as to what was going on.

"Don’t reveal our identity to anyone," Elvis requested. "Please," he begged.

Elvis’ request further added to Sophia’s confusion. "I won’t," she promised as she watched them leave.

Despite being worried about them, she was also ecstatic when she realized that Elvis has just asked her to do something for him for the first time. "That means he trusts me, right?"

Steffan saw two kids darting away and he quickened his steps to go after them.

In the blink of an eye they had disappeared before his eyes. After searching for a while, he had to explore his next option.

Both Elvis and Eleanor’s movements were fast and nimble. They were able to meander their way through the people and lose Steffan before he even knew what was happening.

From where they were hiding, in between two stone pillars close to what looked like a small tea house, Eleanor looked on, her bright eyes held in them an adventurous glint.

It was like what they normally watch in the movies where little kids will be hiding from the bad guy. "Is he a bad guy?" she asked with excitement.

"I am not sure yet." Elvis answered

"You are not sure?" her two delicate brows puckered in a disappointed frown. "Then why are we hiding from him?" Eleanor was even more confused, but decided to still play along.

After all, it was interesting playing this kind of hide and seek with a stranger. She actually felt like she was in a movie.

"I hope he doesn’t find us," she said after some seconds, according to a line from a movie she had once watched.

"He won’t." Elvis stated matter of factly.

"How do you know he won’t?

"Shush...," he might hear you.

Elvis nervously covered Eleanor’s mouth to keep the volume of her voice from being heard.

Steffan, on the other hand, searched for them in all the likely places where he felt they could have hidden but failed to find them.

"How can this little boy manage to disappear without a trace every time I go after him? He is indeed not simple. As young as he is, he is already exhibiting his father’s traits.

He returned back to his niece in defeat.

After they saw Steffan move from where they were hiding, Elvis let out a gust of air, came out with his sister and went to meet their Nanny where she was sitting with the adults and other parents.

As they walked, he made sure they were not in isolation but blended with other children to avoid being conspicuous. He was also constantly on the lookout for the man.

Soon after, they saw Mrs Carr and requested for her to take them home.

"Where did they go?" Steffan asked when he got to where his niece was standing alone.

"Who?" Sophia’s round innocent eyes stared into her uncle’s face in confusion.

"The two kids that were with you," Steffan said.

"There were so many kids with me, uncle. Which ones are you talking about?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Steffan sighed, "The boy and the girl that just left."

"Oh, them. I don’t know. They left suddenly without telling me where they were going. They might probably be on their way home."
