THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 414: Most Beautiful Handcuffs She Has Ever Seen
At the police station where she was? Dolly sat on the cold, hard cot in her cell.
Her mind raced, swirling with thoughts she couldn’t share with anyone. It was the thoughts she had clung desperately to since her arrest... Steffan will come for her.
The guard’s voice cut through her thoughts, startling her.
"You’ve got a visitor."
Her heart leaped and a rush of relief washed over her. Steffan.even if it took him two long weary days, he was finally here for her. come.
He must have finally believed her and came to clarify to the police that they were indeed husband and wife and was not held in her house against his wish.
She stood quickly, smoothing the jumpsuit they made her to change into from the seductive see through gown she was wearing when she was arrested.
She ran her fingers through her hair in a futile attempt to look presentable. She couldn’t help but quicken her steps in excitement as she followed the guard down the bleak hallway.
Steffan was here. He would take her away from this hellhole. They would go back to their little home and probably continue with what was interrupted.
But the moment she stepped into the visiting room and saw the figure sitting on the other side of the glass, a wave of fury shot through her, and she clenched her fists as she walked further into the room.
Lauren, who sat on the other side of the glass, looked very relaxed and seemingly at peace with the whole world, except of course, Dolly whom she had come obviously to mock.
Her arms were crossed as she watched Dolly with a look of barely concealed contempt, but Dolly forced a sneer as she slowly sank into the chair the guard gestured for her to sit on.
"Well, well," Lauren began, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "You don’t look too happy to see me, Dolly. Were you expecting someone else?"
’Of course you fool, I’m expecting Steffan, not your cursed face,’ Dolly retorted inwardly.
She clenched her fists in her lap and her eyes narrowed dangerously. "Why are you here?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady, though a tremor of anger slipped through.
Lauren leaned forward slightly, her smile widening. "Oh, I just had to come see this for myself. You know, it’s not every day that a so-called respected doctor ends up behind bars. I thought I’d witness the fall of Dolly the Great in person."
Dolly’s jaw tightened. "I don’t need your pity."
"Pity?" Lauren raised an eyebrow. Dolly doesn’t deserve her pity, even if she was that last species of the human race. She deserved to rot in hell and not even in jail. But for now, she’ll have to make do with jail.
"Oh, trust me, I’m not here to offer pity. I’m here for something far more satisfying." She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in.
Lauren’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction as she stared at Dolly’s wrists adorned with the most beautiful handcuffs she had ever seen.
She could imagine how happy Dolly was with this place.
The cold, stark environment of the police station was a far cry from the lively hospital surroundings Dolly was used to and Lauren wasn’t about to let her forget it.
"Isn’t it ironic?" Lauren continued, her tone sharp and dripping with sarcasm. "The hands of a once-respected doctor, clasped in handcuffs instead of holding a stethoscope? Quite the fall from grace, wouldn’t you say?"
Dolly’s expression hardened as she glared at Lauren. "And I’ll ask you again, why are you here, Lauren?"
Her hands were already itching to strangle Lauren and if not for the guard she would have made an attempt on her. Afterall she had wanted her dead all along.
The only reason she had instructed those thugs to keep her alive was because she wanted to flaunt her and Steffan’s marriage in her face. And she was close to achieving that... very close, until those police came along.
"I already told you. But since it looks as if this place is messing with your memory, I’ll repeat myself."
Lauren’s lips curved into a cold smile as she stood to her feet. "I heard about your arrest. Didn’t really bother to find out what the charges were. Because with your... personality, it could’ve been anything. So I thought I’d pay you a visit. After all, you were so close to Steffan... you were his dear, loyal friend."
Dolly’s jaw tightened at the mention of Steffan. She didn’t know whether asteffan was taken away to his family or not but since Lauren had not said anything to that effect yet, she would also play along.
"So you’re here to gloat? Is that it?"
Lauren chuckled and folded her arms as she looked around the cell. "Oh no, I’m not here to gloat either. I’m just... curious. Curious how someone like you thought you could fool everyone for so long. You were bound to be exposed, one way or the other."
There was a pause, thick with tension, before Lauren leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a near whisper. "I just wish Steffan was here to see you like this, but sadly, I came alone."
Dolly stiffened, her heart skipping a beat. There was something in Lauren’s tone that made her uneasy, but she couldn’t quite place it. She shook her head to clear the awful thought that wanted to form in her head. But this time couldn’t resist asking,
"Steffan... he’s not with you?"
"No, darling. He couldn’t bring himself to see the disgusting woman who kept him away from his family for months. Or is it his ghost you were expecting?"
Dolly’s heart pounded in her chest, but she forced herself to remain calm. "You don’t know anything about what happened."
Lauren laughed, a cold, bitter sound. "Oh, I know enough. I know you lied to him. I know you took advantage of him when he was vulnerable to keep him away from everyone who cared about him."
She shook her head, her eyes flashing with anger. "And now look at you. Pathetic. Sitting here, hoping he’ll come rescue you. Do you really think Steffan would come look for you after everything you’ve done?"
Dolly’s breath hitched, but she refused to show weakness. "He will come for me," she said in a tone so firm that if Lauren didn’t know better she would have believed her.
"He knows I took care of him when no one else was there. Besides, we’re married, the more reason why he can’t let me stay here," she heard Dolly say.
"You can’t imagine the things we did together these few months... especially at night. I’m sure he must be missing me by now," Dolly boasted while Lauren felt like throwing up.
"You really have no shame, do you? Anyways, who cares about your one sided obsession? As far as I’m concerned, it’s all your wishful thinking," Lauren said dismissively.
She made a mental note to take Steffan for both spiritual and bodily cleansing when she gets back. Who knows what this demon had done to him when he was still unconscious?
