THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 335: A Huge Disaster
"Is everything alright, Steffan?" Dolly asked with concern.
She knew without a doubt that Steffan had gone to meet with Lauren when he left the table and she couldn’t help but wonder what might have transpired between them for such a long time and had long wanted to go check for herself but Candace was like a monitoring demon by her side, making it impossible to do what she needed to do..
From Steffan’s expression, she could tell it wasn’t too good which was supposed to make her happy but as Steffan continued to stare at the door where Lauren had left with that man, her heart shattered into a million pieces.
It was only after the figures of Lauren and George disappeared from his sight that Steffan turned around to see Dolly beside him.
"Why are you here?" he snapped transferring all his anger at what Lauren was doing into his voice. "I asked you to wait for me."
Dolly was taken aback. Steffan had never snapped at her before. She was sure all these had to do with that Lauren.
"I was worried about you since you didn’t return to your seat and just stood here by the door. Is everything okay?" Dolly inquired patiently like a concerned house wife.
This attitude without doubt got on Steffan’s nerves and he used the opportunity to vent out all his anger on Dolly who was yet to understand what she had said wrong.
"I can take care of myself, Dolly. You don’t need to be around me all the time, acting like you’re my wife. Don’t forget I’m also a doctor and know best if I need help or not," he scolded as soon as he was seated.
"I think it’s best we go home, brother," Candace said, casting Dolly a reproachful look.
The atmosphere around the table was getting toxic by the minute and she hated being in such an environment.
Also, she needed to get back so that she can give a call to Lauren to know what all that drama with that man was about. Although she knew Lauren only had Steffan in mind, that man was too dangerous to keep around.
Even a blind man could tell that he was smitten with Lauren and was ready to indulge her in whatever she wanted.
Who knows if Lauren would not be swept off her feet unknowingly with the way the man was displaying his love for her. So she needed to act fast and save her brother’s marriage. After all it was not easy for him to find someone he could finally open up his heart to.
"Let’s go," Steffan said and stood up.
Dolly on the other hand was the most disappointed at the whole outcome as her eyes took in the exotic meal that was spread on the table- most of them untouched.
What she had planned to be a lovely cozy lunch date turned into such a huge disaster all because of Lauren and the most painful part of it all was that her hard earned money had all gone to waste yet her purpose was not achieved.
Rather by Lauren’s instigation, it had even become more impossible to think of repeating it any time soon.
With Steffan repeatedly insisting that there was nothing between them, if she made any move now that he is so guarded against her and bent on proving that they were only just friends, won’t she lose him forever?
With the current state of things, she knew she was far from scratching the surface of her goal and her anger against Lauren soared inexplicably.
Inorder to make Steffan drop his guard against her, she had to suspend all her plans and start all over again.
’That bitch ruined everything. I’ll make sure i destroy her completely,’ she promised herself and hurried off to catch up with Steffan who was already stepping into the car.
"Wait," someone called just as the driver was about closing the door for Steffan.
When Steffan looked over to the direction where the voice came from, he recognized the person as the man who had seen him and Lauren kissing by the restroom earlier.
’What does he want?’
"I think this belongs to the lady, I found it on the ground when I came out of...’
"It’s not mine. You can throw it away," Steffan spurted in a taut voice and gestured with the driver to close the door.
But on second thought, seeing the man still standing there with a frown, he wound down his window.
"Let me have it."
"Thanks," he said after receiving the stole from the man.
Instantly, the sweet fragrance from the stole invaded his senses and he found himself clenching tightly to the stole.
"Whose stole is that?" Dolly asked despite knowing the answer already.
"Lauren’s," was the flat response she got and from Steffan’s tone she knew he was not ready to say more so she had no choice but swallow the rest of the question she wanted to ask.
"Oh," she muttered pitifully, looked away from Steffan and slumped into her seat, crossing her arms across her chest.
To cover up the laughter that threatened to spill out, Candace gave a flat cough, clasping her palm over her mouth in the process, but if one spared the time to observe closely, you could see the glint in her eyes.
Dolly snorted and turned towards the window, staring at nothing in particular.
Meanwhile in Lauren’s car which George had shamelessly boarded so he could have the opportunity to spend more time with Lauren who wanted to discard him as soon as she was done using him, the atmosphere was lively and they were singing along to the lyrics of the popular Abba song, Mamma Mia that was playing.
"Mamma mia, here we go again
My, my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again
Mamma mia, just how much I’ve missed you?"
George had to give up singing with her as her voice had completely drowned his deep one that was still singing according to the key.
"Why have you refused to work on that awful voice of yours?"
"I love it the way it is," Lauren threw back. Shaking her head to the instrumentals.
"So tell me, how much have you missed me?"
Lauren cocked her head to the side as if she was thinking then blurted out, "I never missed you."
"Really? How come you were all over me at that restaurant? I’m just so pathetic that I didn’t use that opportunity to reward myself for all these years of being your shield," George whined.
"What would you have done?" Lauren challenged.
"I could have kissed you, at least, that way the acting will be more natural and convincing,"
"Tsk!! Who wants to kiss that stinking mouth of yours that I’ve lost count of the number of celebrities that have hosted it in their mouth? I’d rather kiss a dog," Lauren grimaced and turned away in disgust.
"Really? After using me you want to heartlessly dump me, Lauren?"
He pretended as if he was deeply hurt and held onto his chest. "You know the only person I’ve ever loved is you," he said jokingly, but if Lauren had looked carefully into those eyes, she would have seen the deep love overflowing from them.
