Chapter 332: Not Into Women

Dolly’s eyes immediately darted to Lauren whose face was beaming with a knowing smile as if Dolly understood perfectly what she was talking about.

At the same time, Candace reached out to cover her mouth to stop the laughter from bursting forth but failed miserably as the next second, she exploded in a hilarious laughter, causing Lauren to join.

"What are you insinuating, Lauren?" She glared at the two women who were clearly making her look like a joke.

It took all her willpower not to smash her fist on the table.

"We are stating the obvious here. Is there any need to beat about the bush? You are clearly smitten by our dear Steffan but have stubbornly refused to admit it. But since we are kind enough to help you, the least you could do is to be grateful for our help. Am I right, sister?" Candace asked Lauren.

"You are not far from the truth, sister. But since she doesn’t value our help, let’s just eat in peace."

As if on cue, the waiter arrived with their order and placed them directly in front of Lauren and Candace.

"Really?" Steffan asked, glaring at the waiter.

"Do you think we are also interrupting your private time," Lauren raised an eyebrow at Steffan. "Or did we mistakenly assume it was Dolly who had fallen for you? Could it be that you’re the one that is actually the one nursing a secret agenda towards Dolly?"

"Watch your mouth," Steffan warned Lauren, who was bent on acting bitchy today. "What nonsense are you spewing?"

Candace reached out to touch Lauren. "Have you forgotten that our Steffan is not into women?"

Dolly: "..."

Steffan: "..."

"Sister in-law!"

"Did I say anything wrong? As far as I’m concerned you’ve never had anything to do with women except..." she deliberately trailed off, leaving Steffan hanging.

"Except what?"

"I suddenly remembered we can’t afford to trigger you unnecessarily, after all, what am I going to do if you suddenly have a crisis and your date is cruelly interrupted."

"I’ve said that we’re not on a date!" Steffan repeated, his anger finally spilling over.

"Since you’re both bent on making it hard for us to have any peace I think we should leave," Steffan said as he flung down his napkin and was about standing when a rich velvety voice called out,

"It’s really you, Lauren!"

Lauren looked away from the fuming Steffan and saw the dashing young man advancing towards their table with a charming smile that could compete with the morning sun.

"George!" Lauren smiled so affectionately that when Steffan saw it, he felt like little ants were crawling all over his stomach and didn’t know when he sat back down, forgetting that he so desperately wanted to leave a few seconds back.

’Who is this man and why is she smiling at him that way?’

As if that was not enough, Lauren rose from her seat and was immediately enveloped in a bear hug by the handsome George.

George broke the embrace and turned Lauren around, his eyes overflowing with admiration as he stared at Lauren.

"You’re looking as gorgeous as ever, Ren. I didn’t expect to meet you here. What’s up?"

"I came to catch a bite with my friend," she said cheerfully. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

It was then George seemed to have noticed that there were other people at the table who were not too happy with his sudden appearance, especially the only man among them.

Still he greeted them and Lauren took the opportunity to do a little introduction.

This is Candace, my sister from another mother, and very good friend. Here is Steffan Rosse and his very close bosom friend and doctor, Ms Thompson.

"Hopefully, one of these days you might hear something good from their end," she added mischievously, winking at Steffan whose face was more sour than sour grape. "Everyone, please meet George, my dearest friend."

As she said that, she reached out and adjusted George’s tie so intimately that one didn’t need to guess their relationship.

"Be good, Ren. We’re not alone," he coaxed with an equally affectionate smile.

"Oh," Lauren said as if she just realized that and bowed her head with a shy look.

"I would have loved to join you but your table appears to be filled already," George said regretfully.

"We can manage," Lauren said and made to get another chair for George but he refused.

"I think it’s best if you get yourself another table," Steffan suddenly said. And one could feel the animosity in his voice.

Even he himself didn’t know why he was reacting this way, after what Lauren did. His being there or not had nothing to do with him, but he just couldn’t stand seeing her all over that man whose look was only so-so.

It’s not like there was anything special about him except for those dimples on his cheek which reminded him so much of Lauren’s when he smiled.

"You’re right, Mr..."

"Dr Steffan Rosse," Steffan supplied impatiently.

"Yeah, Dr Steffan. I also don’t want to inconvenience everyone. Besides, I’ve already booked a table a few days back. So I’ll be heading over."

"Better," Steffan threw back tersely and attacked the loaded potato dish in front of him which suddenly lost its taste.

"I’d love it though if you can join me on my table. That’s if you don’t mind, " George requested as he returned his attention to Lauren whose lips were curved in a sly smile at the way Steffan was reacting.

"Of course I don’t," she agreed too readily. "There’s too much negative energy here anyways," she said and swept her eyes over the table before allowing it to rest on Dolly.

"You are not thinking of leaving me all alone here, are you?" Candace complained, but made no attempt to stand from her seat.

She didn’t know what game Lauren was playing with such a dangerously handsome man, but she believed she knew what she was doing.

The person that needed close marking was Dolly, whose heart was as dark as a bottomless pit. Who knows what her plan for poor Steffan is.

"How can you say that? You’re not alone. You still have Steffan whom you are quite familiar with. Just give me some time to hang out with my darling. It’s been ages since we saw and we have a lot to talk about, right George?"

After saying that, she slipped her hand into George’s as they left to another table which coincidentally was not far away.

From where Candace, Dolly and Steffan were seated they could see everything that was happening on the table where George had booked.

"What’s going on?" George asked as soon as they were settled in their seats.

"I don’t understand," Lauren said, feigning innocence.

"You were clearly using me as a shield just now, Ren. Whose nerve are you trying to get on?" George asked with a knowing smile.

"I can’t hide anything from you right?"

"You know that’s impossible. So spill it. Who is so unfortunate to have underestimated my darling Ren?"

"Why are you in such a hurry? Let’s enjoy ourselves first," Lauren said mysteriously.

George had no choice but to indulge her.

Across from them on the other table, the atmosphere was not as harmonious as the one at Lauren’s.
