Chapter 321: I Won’t Go Looking For Other Men

Dolly clenched her fist in anger but outwardly still maintained a smile.

"That’s not a problem, Mrs Rosse. Steffan and I have been good friends and we care a lot about each other so I don’t mind going out of my way to do anything for him."

"Thanks again, but no thanks," Sarah rejected in a clipped tone. "He has more than enough people around him to continue bothering strangers," Sarah shot back making sure that she stood directly in line of Dolly’s vision, making it impossible for her to see Steffan clearly.

Seeing that the conversation was getting out of hand, Steffan called out.

"Mom..."

Hearing Steffan’s voice, Dolly’s eyes lit up with the hope that he was going to speak up for her but the next second, Sarah turned around and cast Steffan a look that made him instantly swallow what he wanted to say. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Are you very free? Then stand up and help with the packing instead of wasting your energy on irrelevant things," she ordered.

Steffan: "..."

David: ..."

"How come I didn’t know that this woman was so fierce when it came to hating someone?"

"Doctor, if you don’t mind, please kindly excuse us and thanks for your kind offer," David said to make it easier for Dolly.

"Of course, Uncle," Dolly said and immediately took her leave, swearing in her heart to make sure she deals with Sarah when the time comes.

As soon as she was outside the ward, she gritted her teeth and stamped her feet in indignation. "Damned witch! Wait until I get married to Steffan, I’ll make sure you never see your son again."

As she stormed off to her office, she brushed past Stanley who was returning from Dr Sullivan’s office.

He pretended not to see the furious expression on Dolly’s face and continued on his way.

This must be his mother’s handwork he thought and for once admired his mother’s interfering nature.

With such a mother guarding over Steffan like mother hen, who dares snatch Steffan from Lauren’s hands.

Speaking of Lauren he remembered he hadn’t seen her for quite a while. She might not be aware of Steffan’s discharge from the hospital today, so he put a call to her.

"Brother Stanley, you remembered to check on me today?" Lauren’s accusatory but cheerful voice came through as soon as the call connected.

"Are you trying to act smart? Between the two of us, who is supposed to check on who?" Stanley retorted playfully.

"The elder brother of course," Lauren replied almost immediately. "if not, how will you know if your younger sister has been bullied by others?"

"Tsk! Are you kidding me? With Killian by your side, who has the guts to bully you in the whole of this city?" Stanley teased.

Lauren burst out in laughter. "No one in their right senses would dare to do such, of course, But unfortunately some people do not have a sense of reasoning so they can still mess around once in a while,"

"That’s true," Stanely agreed. "That reminds me, Steffan will be leaving the hospital today, are you aware?"

"Really? Is he fully recovered to be discharged so soon? It’s barely been two weeks. I thought he’d be there for at least a month."

Stanley: "..."

"Do you seriously want him to remain in the hospital for that long? You might end up not having a husband if that were to happen," Stanley joked, but Lauren could understand that he was speaking based on the situation on ground.

What with Dolly focusing on Steffan’s treatment as if he was the only patient in the hospital, which was the main reason she had also stayed away, one can’t really tell what might happen next.

Hard as it may sound, after that day at the park she had come to realize that if Steffan and she were fated to be together, he will find his way back to her in the end but if not, she won’t kill herself over a man.

Does that mean she didn’t love him enough to fight for him? No. But sometimes love is not just always enough.

She believed the connection they had established before now was enough to weather any storm and if this particular storm eventually overwhelmed them, it only means that the connection was not strong enough, which explained her seemingly lackadaisical attitude.

"Lauren. Are you still there?" Stanley asked, when he didn’t hear anything again from the other end.

"Yeah, brother Stanley. I’m here safe and sound," Lauren laughed.

"So are you coming over to the house later or you’ll join us in the hospital? "Your mother" will gladly wait for your arrival if I tell her you were coming to the hospital to bring Steffan home."

Lauren laughed when Stanley called his own mother her mother.

Both Stanley and Steffan had always felt that Sarah was more of a mother to Candace and Lauren than to them. So whenever he mentioned Sarah to Lauren, he always referred to Sarah as "your mother."

"None of the above," Lauren said gently. "I’m not free for now."

Isn’t it funny that while one was desperately fighting to assist, another was being begged to do that same thing?

Stanley was rendered speechless.

"Lauren?" he called out in disbelief. "Are you giving up on my brother?"

A chuckle escaped Lauren’s mouth at the concern she heard in Stanley’s voice.

"I will never give up on Steffan unless he does."

"You know he is not the same Steffan you used to know, so I’ll beg that you be patient with him and help him, Lauren."

"I understand, brother Stanley, I won’t go looking for another man, after all I still love your brother," Lauren joked, hoping that Stanley will not be too worried.

"Thank you, Lauren. But you’ll still drop by the house, right? Danny and Sophia have been asking of you."

"Alright, I will," Lauren had no choice but to give her word under Stanley’s insistence.

"Great, so we’ll be expecting you later today. I’ll go inform your mother." Stanley said matter of factly.

"Lauren: "..."

"Why can’t I remember saying that I’ll be coming over today?" She asked.

But the call had ended before she knew it. She shook her head, feeling helpless.

She tried to call Stanley back but he didn’t pick the call and she knew she had just been taken advantage of.

Now that he was going to tell Sarah, she dare not stay away as she will start making preparations immediately and if she finally did not show up, her ears will not rest for a whole week.

’Poor me, who asked me to have such an enthusiastic mother in-law? I wish that things with Steffan will work out so that we can all be together as a big happy family.’

As she was busy thinking about this, she heard a knock on the door and one of her staff came in after her curt, "come in."

"Boss, you have a visitor."

"Who might that be?"

"He didn’t give a name, but looked very dignified."

Lauren smirked, "How do you know he is very dignified? Tell him I’ll be out shortly."

A few minutes later, Lauren came out of her office and saw a tall, well built, handsome gentleman, exuding the aura of a prince by the counter.

As recognition finally dawned on her, Lauren’s eyes widened in a pleasant surprise.
