Chapter 251: Quit Pretending To Be Brave

They saw the car still parked at the location it was tracked to but it was carefully covered with dense leaves making it impossible to tell that something was hidden there.

If not for the dot that continued to beep on his computer there was no way anyone would have found out that something that massive was hidden there.

He instructed his men to uncover the car, but as they had already presumed, no one was in it when they checked.

"Where are you, Kathleen?" Shawn muttered under his breath as he instructed his men to spread out in different directions and not to return until they found something.

The team moved with heightened urgency, combing through every corner of the surrounding area.

Shawn’s eyes darted from one detail to another, at this point he had to follow his instincts.

He continued searching, each step measured and deliberate, until something glinting faintly on the ground, partially obscured by debris, caught his eye.

He bent to pick it up and saw that it was a pendant. On close examination he saw that it was a jade pendant. a striking violet glint amidst the darkness.

Memories of Kathleen wearing the same pendant on several occasions flooded his mind.

"This is Kathleen’s pendant..."

He clutched the pendant tightly in his hand, and scrutinized the area for any further clues.

With his hands, he signaled for the men with him to close in on an old warehouse he spotted in the distance.

"Stay alert, we are on the right track," he told them.

Moving stealthily, he spotted a faint light emanating from a partially boarded-up window of the warehouse and cautiously approached it, his heart pounding with anticipation.

Meanwhile Kathleen, who had been waiting for her captors to show up again and probably state their purpose of kidnapping her, sat up when she heard the footsteps approaching.

This time round, the man held a torch light as he entered the room and Kathleen was able to make out his features.

Kathleen’s heart raced with fear as she studied the menacing figure with a muscular build and a rugged appearance.

His eyes held a cold, detached stare, reflecting years of ruthless dealings as he fixed it on Kathleen.

His unkempt beard and face which was marked with a scar running across his left cheek, adding to his intimidating presence was not a sight to behold for the weak hearted.

No wonder, she had almost puked when he touched her earlier; he smelled of evil.

But the tattoo peeking out from under his sleeves caught Kathleen’s eyes as she stared at the man unflinchingly despite her thumping heart.

She also noticed that this time, he was not alone. Behind him, Kathleen could clearly see a pair of legs clad in white female sneakers.

When they got close enough, the man moved to the side revealing a face that Kathleen was all too familiar with.

Kathleen’s mouth curled up in a mocking cold smile. "Why am I not surprised to know that it is you?"

Linda was infuriated by Kathleen’s mockery and unruffled confidence even in a situation as bad as this.

She had deliberately instructed the people not to interact with her but keep her in suspense for that long and not tell her anything.

What was more frustrating and nerve wrecking than being kept in the dark and living in constant fear of the unknown. She thought by now Kathleen would have been broken and reduced to a weak woman begging for mercy, but as it is, she had underestimated her.

"Quit pretending to be brave, you are already in my hands and there is no way of escape for you," Linda spat out as she cast Kathleen a disdainful look, who was still bound hand and feet and strapped to a chair.

"Are you sure about that?" Kathleen sneered.

"Whatever you have to do, I’d advise you to hurry up as it will be too late if you delay any further."

Linda’s eyes darted to the man to confirm the truth in Kathleen’s words.

"Didn’t you say no one trailed you and that the job was done seamlessly?"

"Don’t take her seriously. She is only bluffing. Moreover, we have enough backup to counter whoever might come for her."

With that assurance, Linda became more bold. She reached out, grabbed Kathleen’s collar and did a lousy job of yanking her up as she was the one that almost toppled over Kathleen.

"How dare you play on my intelligence?" She squealed as soon as she was able to stabilize herself.

But instead of scaring Kathleen, she ended up being the scared one as Kathleen’s eyes suddenly changed colors, causing her sweet violet shade to automatically turn a deep purple.

"What can you do?" Kathleen challenged in a cold disdainful voice.

"Like I said before, you are nothing but a small fry. All of you from the Beazell family," she taunted.

"If this is about releasing your b***h of a mother from jail, you had better brace up for the worst, sweetheart, because she will rot in there."

Barely had Kathleen finished her speech when a heavy blow descended on her face, sending her and the chair she was strapped to sprawling to the end of the room.

Instantly, she seemed to be shrouded in a galaxy of stars as she tried to open her eyes.

Standing before her when her eyes eventually focused was no longer the weak and over pampered Linda, but the burly thug who had come with her.

"Do you dare to spew nonsense again?" he bellowed with a menacing look that wasn’t different from that of an enraged demon.

Kathleen was yet to recover from the shock her face had received and some parts of her face were yet to be supplied with blood, so she couldn’t even speak for some minutes.

She could only glare at the man who had only slapped her but his one slap was like a blow received from the boxing ring.

She winced from the stinging pain and couldn’t even raise her hand to rub on her face since they were still strapped.

’This was damn vicious! Does he have a grudge against my face?’
