THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 248: Jealous Uncle
While the children were busy planning on how to reunite their parents, Jason was busy throwing a tantrum at his girlfriend’s place.
Sitting on the couch, a troubled expression on his face, Jason sighed for the upteenth time, finally catching Cheryl’s attention.
"What’s with the long face, Jason? Trouble at work or did you lose a bet?" she teased.
"I wouldn’t complain if it was any of those," Jason spat out.
Cheryl paused in her act of tidying up the apartment.
"Can you calm down and tell me why you are this angry on a wonderful night like this?" Cheryl asked, a concerned look etched on her beautiful face as she sat beside Jason.
"Can you believe that those children have the guts to abandon me the moment their father came calling?"
After all these years, he had always thought that no one would be able to take his place in their lives but he got the greatest shock of his life these few weeks.
Not only did they not ask of him when he stayed out late, but the only thing they talked about whenever they were together was their father.
Cheryl couldn’t help but let out a peel of laughter. "Don’t tell me you are jealous of President Hudson?"
Rolling his eyes, Jason sneered, "How can I be jealous of him?"
"Really?" teased Cheryl, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes before raising her hand to trace a line on Jason’s forehead with her forefinger.
"I can see it clearly written in bold here: "JEALOUS UNCLE," she read out.
Jason chuckled. "Maybe a little," he reluctantly admitted.
"I knew it," declared Cheryl triumphantly.
"Whatever!" Jason smirked.
A sympathetic look crossed Cheryl’s face. Who wouldn’t be jealous when faced with such a cruel reality. "I know it’s tough for you, but it’s natural."
With a wistful smile, Jason sighed. "I just miss the bond we have, you know? They are like my own."
"Sorry to break it to you, love, but no one can replace a dad. And an uncle, as wonderful as you are, has a different spot in their hearts," Cheryl pointed out.
Although it was hard, that was the sad truth.
"I guess I’ll just have to settle for being the cool, fun uncle instead."
"Exactly. The one who spoils them rotten and lets them get away with everything," Cheryl laughed.
"I still get to see them everyday, though, unlike Shawn, who has to ask for permission from my sister every time before seeing them,"
"Do you think he can’t change that if he wishes?" Cheryl pointed out.
As far as she was concerned Shawn had made that sacrifice for Janice just because of his love for her.
If it were other men, they wouldn’t just settle for a lousy visit, especially when there was no other heir in sight and the mother had no intention of getting back with him.
"Well, he can, but he chose to be a fool for my sister. How is it my fault that his love is deeper than his sense of reasoning?"
"How long do you think that will last? I just pray Janice would see his sincerity and look beyond her thirst for revenge and give herself some peace," she said. "That way everyone will be happy.
"Let’s wait and see," Jason said.
Just when Jason was trying to reconcile himself to his fate, something clicked in Cheryl’s mind and she glared at Jason.
Sensing the sudden change in her mood, Jason raised his brow in confusion. "What?"
"So you’re telling me that in the future you won’t think twice before you whisk our children away from me if something like this was to happen between us."
Jason was taken aback. "Don’t ever think about that!" he ordered.
"Nothing of the sort will ever happen to us. Do you know what you are talking about?"
"Tsk! Who knows what you will do if someone was to frame me like they did to Janice."
Jason frowned and this time he was truly scared. "Is that how you think of me? That I am unreliable?"
"You men are all the same. You can promise heaven and earth when you are in love, but the moment there is a challenge especially from the woman’s side, you forget all about your promise." Cheryl said nonchalantly but it cut deep into Jason’s heart.
"I will have to use the rest of my life to prove to you that I am different," Jason promised solemnly.
’But even if I would have acted foolishly before now, Shawn’s present predicament is an eye opener and I have learned my lesson from his mistakes and wouldn’t act rashly in the future,’ he said to himself.
He was no longer comfortable with the line the conversation was towing so he deftly changed it.
"But before we consider whether I would’ve taken the children from you or not, can we start by bringing them to the world first."
"You had better behave yourself," Cheryl warned and backed away when she saw the lascivious look in Jason’s eyes.
How did the serious talk they were having suddenly take this turn?
"You see, you are the heartless one between the both of us."
"Who says I am the heartless one?"
"You don’t even want our children to come to the world," Jason accused.
"Of course I want to have children," she snapped.
"How can you talk of having children when you keep running from me?" Jason argued.
"You have practically turned me into a monk as it is and I keep..."
Cheryl: "..."
She rushed forward and covered Jason’s mouth with her soft hands from spewing further nonsense.
But she didn’t expect that the scoundrel would use the opportunity to hold her in a tight embrace and run his tongue along her palms, sending shivers down her spine.
She made to withdraw her hand and fell right into his trap as he seized her mouth the next instant, nibbling on her luscious lips.
