THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 235: You Can’t Afford My Thoughts.
Each stride he took towards her supervisor’s table was like drum beats hitting amorously on Kathleen’s tiny innocent heart almost causing her a nosebleed.
"Look who we have here!" Dr Graham, her supervisor, exclaimed. "If this isn’t The Shawn David Hudson?"
"Hi buddy" Shawn had said in an attractive deep voice with an equally captivating smile while stretching his hands for a handshake with Dr. Graham. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"To what do I owe this Royal visit? I must have saved the moon last night to have His Majesty grace me with his presence"
Shawn chuckled softly as he took his seat opposite Dr Graham.
"Don’t be ridiculous, man," can’t I check on my friend once in a while? Anyway, how is business, and have you been able to come up with any cure for overworked CEOs?" Shawn joked.
"You’re definitely the ridiculous one here", Dr Graham responded, "there’s no such thing as a cure for overwork. What you just need is rest. Take some time out to cool off, dude"
"That reminds me," he continued excitedly, "Adrian is in town. He flew in last night. What do you say about a get-together this evening?"
"Which Adrian?" Shawn Hudson asked with a quizzical frown
"The one that almost stole your girlfriend from you of course," Dr Graham teased, obviously enjoying himself.
Shawn’s eyes narrowed in confusion. "I never had a girlfriend."
"I mean Linda, the daughter of Director Beazell, my boss," Graham said with a mischievous grin.
Shawn’s face turned sour as if he had just eaten a sour grape.. "Hey... hey... hey!!!, for your information, Linda was never my girlfriend, I’ve never been into her and will not. She is just someone my parents arranged for me to marry and you know quite well that she is not my type." Shawn said, his mouth curling up in disdain.
Graham laughed at the way Shawn quickly drew the line between Linda and himself.
"Alright, I get it. You don’t need to be so defensive. I was only joking with you. So are you in on the get together tonight?"
So I was not the only person that saw Linda as a disgustingly proud, green-eyed witch. What a pity that his parents did not see Linda for who she truly was,’ Kathleen had sympathized for the poor handsome Shawn.
However, the two friends chatted away as if she wasn’t there, so she decided to quietly exit the room.
As she took a step towards the door, Dr Graham stopped her as if suddenly realizing she was still standing there,
"Hold on Miss Crawford, please inform my secretary to clear my schedule for this evening. You can leave the report on my desk, we’ll continue with it tomorrow."
"Yes sir" Kathleen replied and walked back to his desk to drop the report.
As she placed the report on the desk, she could feel a strong stare directed on her. She looked up and was immediately drowned in a pair of mesmerizing sapphire blue eyes which seemed to pry deep into her soul;
Time seemed to have frozen as she was momentarily immobilized. She was so lost in his gaze and became completely oblivious of her surroundings.
A lazy smile played around Shawn’s lips as he saw the effect he was having on her, "Hi beautiful, where have you been all these years?"
Shawn’s voice was like honey, slow and deep, attractive enough to melt her completely and Kathleen blushed a deep red. She bowed her head to hide her blushing face from the smooth talker.
A strand of her lustrous blonde hair dropped over her face and she gasped when she felt a hand lift the straying hair and tucked it behind her ear naturally. Without looking, she knew the hand belonged to the drop dead handsome stranger. His action was slow, deliberate and sensual.
The contact of their skins triggered an electric shock between them and they both felt a strong inexplicable spark that seemed to pull them towards each other.
As if that was not enough, Shawn took one of Kathleen’s delicate soft hand in his and set her entire body on fire by the unexpected kiss he placed on it.
"I’m Shawn Hudson, pleased to finally meet you, my soulmate," he had said with that teasing glint in his blue eyes.
From that day onwards it was like heaven compensated her for the years she lacked a complete family. He became her friend, brother, father and all she could have ever wished for in a man.
Kathleen was drawn back to the present when she heard the mocking voice of her friend, Lauren. "A penny for your thoughts?"
She scowled at her which elicited a loud laugh from Lauren.
"You can’t afford my thoughts. They are too precious," Kathleen said before realizing that she had actually been missing those good old days.
"Aren’t you too proud? Flaunting your wealth in my face," Lauren sulked, feigning anger.
"Whatever," Kathleen said but couldn’t help asking herself, ’have I been too harsh on him?’
"There you go again. What are you so engrossed in that you are neither here nor there?" Lauren complained.
"Nothing. When are you starting your delivery for Hudson Corporations?" Kathleen asked all of a sudden.
Lauren frowned. "Next week. Why did you ask?"
"I think those unpredictable kids might have some designs on you. So I want to warn you to be careful around them."
"You don’t need to worry about me, I can take care of myself, girlfriend," Lauren said nonchalantly, then something clicked in her mind.
Casting Kathleen a suspicious look, she asked. "Are you truly worried about me? Or you are more concerned about the possibility that they will sell you off to President Hudson before you know what is going on," Lauren exposed.
"They wouldn’t dare, but with those kids, one can’t really tell what they are up to these days, especially Eleanor."
"What did my little princess do again this time?"
"She has been telling me that she keeps seeing Shawn in her dreams locked in a lonely house with no one to play with."
Lauren burst into laughter. "Her imagination is definitely rich!"
