THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 229: Their IQs Are Exceptionally High
"This is the best day I’ve ever had, apart from the times we spent together in the past, of course," Shawn quickly added.
"No doubt, the children are also enjoying it," Kathleen said, taking in the enchanting look on Eleanor’s face as she drew something on the canvas.
"Thank you Kathleen."
"Are you going to keep on thanking me?" Kathleen was somehow embarrassed.
"I don’t know how else to express my gratitude," Shawn said helplessly. "Or do you have any other idea?
"No idea," she replied without thinking about it.
"Then I just have to keep thanking...."
"Argh..." Kathleen gritted her teeth.
The corners of Shawn’s mouth spasmed up in a faint smile. "How about we talk about something else," Shawn suggested.
"I don’t think we have anything common to talk about," Kathleen said, her defenses rising up again.
Shawn chuckled. "With the children in the equation, I think we do now, more than ever."
Kathleen shot a suspicious look at Shawn. ’Is he going to ask me to give the children to him now that he has realized that he can’t live without them after spending a few hours with them? He should dream on. I’m not letting my children out of my sight.’
"What about the children?" She spat out, her tone sounding confrontational.
"Relax Kathleen," Shawn coaxed. He could clearly feel the tension and see the sudden change in the shade of her eyes.
"I only wanted to know how you were able to cope with them in those early days."
He waited a few seconds and when he saw her shoulders visibly relax, he continued.
"After I got to know that you gave birth to such lovely kids, I started reading about pregnancies and babies and from what I found out, I know it must have been difficult for you then."
With Shawn bringing up the topic, her mind went back to the time in the hospital where the doctor had told her to either evacuate the babies or face the risk of giving birth to children with some congenital disease.
But then, Professor Gaius turned up out of nowhere and helped her make the best decision ever.
Her cold face softened at the memory of Aunt Elizabeth’s dedication and unconditional love for her even when she was not sure of her true identity.
"It wasn’t much of a big deal, luckily I had caring people around me at the time who ensured everything was fine."
From Kathleen’s words, Shawn deduced she didn’t want to talk about it and didn’t press further.
"I wish one day you will consider me worthy enough to share those locked up memories with, but I will continue to wait, even if it is for the rest of my life."
Kathleen turned her face to stare at him and for a brief moment her heart was moved by the solemnity of those words.
"How is your Nana?" She suddenly asked out of the blues.
"She is fine. I met her this morning before coming over and she sends her greetings," Shawn said.
At the mention of his grandmother, sudden hope surged inside him again.
"You told her about our meeting?" Kathleen asked, her gaze laced with disappointment.
"Yes, but not about the children."
"Oh," she muttered, bowing her head. "I would have loved to let her know about the children but.."
"You don’t need to burden yourself about that. Whenever you are ready, she will get to know." Although it was also a tough decision for him, he believed Kathleen had her reasons which he did not bother to probe.
His eyes went back to the children who were busy doing their own thing.
He saw that Elvis had already assembled a complicated lego set halfway and his eyes widened in disbelief.
"Wow!"
Kathleen lifted her eyes but saw that Shawn’s attention was not on her. She followed his gaze to Elvis and understood why Shawn had exclaimed in surprise.
"He has always been very good at such stuffs. Eleanor too," she announced with pride.
"I can see that. No ordinary child can accomplish that task that fast. I now understand why they could be admitted into that particular kindergarten."
Initially, he had thought it was because of the Wyatts’ connections, but seeing what Elvis just did, he knew better.
"Their IQs are exceptionally high and they can do things way beyond their peers. Currently, Elvis is developing a gaming app and I guess it should be near completion as we speak."
Shawn started seeing his children in a new light after what Kathleen said.
With that level of intelligence, he was sure they would surpass his own achievements in no time.
He had thought he was already outstanding enough when he considered how old he was when he went into business.
He had just gotten his doctorate degree in business administration when he was forced to take over Hudson Corps at the age of eighteen after his father’s sudden demise and also because of those greedy uncles and relatives who had their eyes set on the company.
Armed with his exceptional intellect and acute business acumen, and the help of his mother, who constantly guided him on how to deal with those relatives, he was able to put them in their place in barely a year after taking over the company.
Over the years, he had been able to take Hudson corporations to the height it now stood.
He stood up and strolled leisurely to where Eleanor was busy with her drawing.
"What is my little princess drawing?" He asked as Eleanor stepped back, a satisfied grin on her face.
He was shocked when the little girl turned the canvas to face him and he let out another whopping "Wow," which ended up drawing Kathleen’s attention.
Eleanor had perfectly captured a family of four; a mother and a father holding their children’s hands as they took a walk in the park.
He knew it was the park from the images of trees flanking the cute family on both sides.
