THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 225: Thank Goodness, He Can Still Be Saved
Shawn glared at Johnson who had made it a point of duty to ensure he doesn’t have a moment of peace and quiet.
How can he be thinking of food when something as important as meeting his children is concerned?
He has been eating all these while, what has it done other than keep him alive to endure more anguish.
Now that the heavens had seen his sufferings and decided to bless him with two children out of the blues, he had no appetite for food.
Poor Johnson. He has suddenly turned "a noise maker" because he was looking out for his boss’s welfare.
Who told him not to have his own children.
"You need to inform the manager of The Masters Place to cancel all bookings for tomorrow evening. I’ll be taking Elvis and Eleanor there for dinner."
"I don’t want the children to be uncomfortable in any way or anyone interrupting our family bonding time."
Johnson: "...."
Are you sure I shouldn’t put a call through to the psychiatrist to have a look at his brain? This is truly getting out of hand.
’What are you thinking dude?!’ Johnson wailed inwardly at his boss’s exaggerated decision.
Canceling just an hour’s booking at the Masters Place is the same as throwing hundreds of millions away, not to talk of an entire evening.
That was the peak period in the restaurant when special events culminating in major business deals and alliances were fixed. He could hardly think of the huge compensation that his boss would have to pay.
Recognizing the potential loss and impact the decision will have, not just on his boss’s finances, but the bad image it will give to the restaurant, he risked his job to offer some advice.
He doubted he would take it, but let it be on record that at least he tried, as the good assistant that he was.
"Sir, it might not be the best idea to clear the whole restaurant for the evening."
Shawn’s blue orbs narrowed into thin slits. "Why do you think so?"
Johnson relaxed a bit. ’Good, at least he was finally willing to have a sensible conversation,’ he thought and went on to air his concerns.
"Bearing in mind that the guests that patronize the restaurant in the evenings are not just ordinary citizens but dignitaries and professionals, who usually use the place for business deals, these bookings might have been made weeks before today.
I doubt you would want to deliberately offend them all, because even if you will compensate them, what happens to the preparations they have put in to get the place ready before now and other logistics?"
"So?" Shawn’s expression reflected his impatience. He failed to understand the correlation between what Johnson was saying and hosting his children at the masters place?
"Why don’t you take them to the penthouse at the top of the restaurant instead. There, even if the other guests are in the restaurant, no one will interrupt your time together."
Johnson waited to get his body language but was met with a bland expression. He had no choice but to continue, hoping for a miracle.
"I’m also sure Madam wouldn’t want you to book the whole restaurant, you know how she thinks about spending money," Johnson deliberately added that last part.
If the other suggestions were not enough to make Shawn change his mind about booking the whole restaurant, at least the fear of offending his wife finally did the magic.
True to Johnson’s speculation, a thoughtful expression soon appeared on Shawn’s face the moment Kathleen was brought into the equation.
He had been so carried away by his excitement and eagerness to make the evening special for the children, that he clearly forgot about Kathleen’s aversion to spending money recklessly. She might even pick a fight with him and accuse him of trying to set a bad example for their children.
As far as he was concerned the other reasons were meaningless and could have been sorted out easily.
"I only wanted this to be memorable for the children. I want to give them an unforgettable experience, but the alternative suggestion you made is also Ok. We will work with that," he said.
Johnson breathed a sigh of relief. ’Thank goodness, he can still be saved.’
"Understood, sir. I’ll convey the message to the manager to get the penthouse ready for tomorrow. "
Johnson was yet to finish celebrating his victory when another bomb landed.
"Get ready, we are going to the store to get gifts for the children," Shawn announced.
"There is still more?" It was too late before Johnson realized he had said that aloud.
"Of course there is more. This is just the beginning." Shawn was obviously in a good mood as he didn’t seem to notice the complaint in Johnson’s tone.
"After that we are going to The Masters Place to see the manager. We have to plan the dinner to the children’s preferences and ensure that everything is ordered fresh, not earlier than tomorrow afternoon."
Shawn continued to line up a beehive of things that needed to be sorted out before tomorrow, which Johnson was sure were not relevant over a dinner date.
However, he couldn’t say anything to dissuade the excited father.
Shawn was more happier than a bride planning for her dream wedding. "Is being a father this intoxicating?"
Before they finally called it a day, he found himself more exhausted than when he was running Hudson Corporations in Shawn’s absence.
Shawn, however was more energetic than before and could hardly catch a wink of sleep the entire night.
It was only in the wee hours of the morning that he reluctantly succumbed to the call of nature.
And for the first time in years, he slept with a smile on his face, happy with the silver lining that was gradually creeping into his dark sky.
