THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 216: I DO LOVE MY SISTER!
At the corridor of the presidential floor, Shawn’s eyes darted around and settled on Kathleen’s door.
"She is not coming in today. That’s why I asked us to meet here. Although I can’t guarantee that words won’t get to her about your visit," Jason said as they stepped into his office,
The office was adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows which allowed natural light to cascade in, illuminating the room’s exquisite interior.
While sharing many similarities with Kathleen’s office in terms of elegance and sophistication, the walls, painted in rich, deep tones of mahogany and charcoal, gave it a distinct masculine touch.
The deep hues of the leather upholstery also added a touch of refinement to the room.
"I don’t mind," Shawn said in response to Jason’s comment as he made himself comfortable on one of the plush leather armchairs beside the huge table before Jason could even offer him a seat.
"Let’s get down to business," Jason said without further ado.
"What’s your plan about the children?"
Shawn’s eyes narrowed at Jason’s direct question. He moved his gaze from the collection of fine art and photographs that he was admiring on the wall.
"I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today if I can’t come up with that little deduction," Jason replied to Shawn’s questioning gaze.
Since Shawn’s assistant had seen Elvis yesterday, he believed he would have reported his findings to his boss, probably taking some pictures to buttress his point.
Shawn released a deep sigh. "Nothing," he stated casually to Jason’s astonishment.
Two deep lines appeared between Jason’s eyebrows. "What does that mean?"
Shawn clasped his two hands. "It means, I will go with Kathleen’s decision."
Jason was caught unawares by Shawn’s response. What is Shawn up to today? "If she asks you to stay away from them, will you do that?"
"She will not."
Jason chuckled as he stared at Shawn.
"What makes you so sure about that?"
"She is not that callous, except when it comes to forgiving me," Shawn stated matter of factly.
That was true of his sister’s character. If it had nothing to do with her, she wouldn’t mind.
"You seriously don’t want to fight for custody for the children?"
"There will be no need for that." Shawn sat up in his chair and adjusted his suit jacket. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Like I told you before, we were never divorced. But if Kathleen wants the children to be with her for now, I have no objections. I can always find a way to see them once in a while, but I also wish she would give us the chance to live together as one happy healthy family."
"Hmm, I see. You know, you have just two weeks remaining to fulfill your promise," Jason reminded.
"I’m aware of what I have to do," Shawn’s confidence was revealed in his reply.
Jason couldn’t help but wonder where Shawn was having his confidence from. As far as he knew, his sister’s heart was millions of miles away from being moved.
Even when she learnt that Shawn had saved Eleanor yesterday, she just shrugged it off, mumbling something like, "it was his duty as a father."
"But I’m yet to see any progress yet," he pointed out.
The corners of Shawn’s mouth curved in a mysterious smile, "You think so?"
Casting Shawn a suspicious look, Jason couldn’t help but smirk. "Are you thinking about using the children?"
"I honestly never thought of using them. But since you mentioned it, they can be considered as a blessing in disguise and could come in handy, if need be."
He had done a lot of reflection at their apartment at Hillside Lot last night and have arrived at some harsh but resolute decision. One of which was about the children.
He was going to respect whatever decision Kathleen makes about them.
That was also part of the reason he didn’t rush over to the Wyatt’s residence to see the children yesterday, or to the kindergarten to block them this morning.
It wasn’t an easy decision though, but he felt he shouldn’t just barge in on them like that.
One of his harshest resolves was to respect their space untill they were ready to accept him.
It could be said that when he received Jason’s call to meet this morning, he knew he was going to bring the topic up, so he was already prepared.
"Aren’t you shameless? Using your own children for your personal agenda?"
"Not personal agenda, little brother. it is for "the bigger picture," Shawn corrected. "I bet the children would love to have a complete family just like everyone else."
"Come to think of it, you would do the same if you were in my shoes," Shawn added as an afterthought.
"Whatever," Jason snorted and ignored Shawn addressing him as "little brother".
He couldn’t outrightly deny Shawn’s point though. If anything were to separate him and Cheryl for this long, he would use every means at his disposal to get her back.
Shawn observed Jason closely. He’s been able to know from his few interactions with him these few months that he wasn’t difficult to hang around with. He was actually a sweet boy pretending to be tough. "So how do you intend to help me?"
Jason’s head jerked up in disbelief. "Are you seriously asking me that?"
"Mmm-hmm. I’ve never been more serious," Shawn replied casually.
"What makes you think I will agree to help you. If you must know, I, for one don’t want you to ever get back with my sister."
"Is that so? So you would rather watch her suffer. I must have been mistaken by assuming you had this epic love for her. I didn’t know it was just empty noise," Shawn deliberately poked his weak point.
Jason gritted his teeth, his eyes shooting daggers. "Watch your mouth Shawn Hudson! I DO LOVE MY SISTER!" Jason emphasized each word with deep emotion and conviction.
Shawn’s lips curled in a smirk. "Really?" He seemed to be enjoying Jason’s outburst.
