THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 215: You’ll Always Have My Blessings
The next morning, Shawn left his apartment at Hillside Lot, and drove straight to Hudson Manor.
He arrived at Hudson Manor just as the early morning light started to filter through the windows.
After parking his car, he flung the keys to his driver, who had reported at the manor according to his instructions and went straight to his grandmother’s apartment.
As Shawn entered his grandmother’s room, his usual composed demeanor was somehow lacking.
Lying on the bed with a book in hand, old Mrs Hudson sighted Shawn at the door.
She had always been an early riser, so as she started recovering, her past habit was also being recovered as well.
She tried to sit up as she greeted him with a warm smile which faded when she observed his fatigued appearance.
"Good morning Nana," he responded to her greeting and went forward to help the old lady sit up in bed. "I hope you slept well?"
"I did my child. But I can hardly say the same about you from your exhausted looks."
Shawn’s tired eyes and the faint lines of worry etched across his face which indicated a restless night were all exposed under her scrutinizing gaze.
Through her perceptive and caring nature, she sensed something amiss immediately.
"Shawn, dear, have you been sleeping well?" she inquired, her voice filled with genuine concern and maternal love.
Shawn attempted a reassuring smile but couldn’t hide the weariness in his eyes. "I’m alright, Grandma. Just a bit of a long night," he replied, trying to downplay his fatigue.
"You know, you’re not the best at hiding things from me, dear. I can tell when something’s troubling you," she said reproachfully.
Shawn hesitated for a few seconds then moved his chair closer to the bedside and sank into it, the weight of his exhaustion evident as he ran a hand through his hair.
"I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, Nana." Shawn admitted making no attempt to conceal the strain in his voice.
His grandmother reached out and placed a comforting hand on his, her touch offering solace and understanding. "Sometimes, the weight of our thoughts can keep us awake at night. You know, talking about it might ease the burden, my dear."
Touched by her unwavering support, Shawn took a moment to gather his thoughts. He shared the recent events that have been weighing on him, which was mainly his concerns about Kathleen’s prolonged unforgiveness. He was careful enough not to mistakenly mention the children.
Just as his grandmother had rightly said, as he poured out his heart to his grandmother, while she listened attentively, he felt a sense of relief washing over him. Her presence alone, offered him a semblance of solace.
In the gentlest of tones, old Mrs Hudson asked, when Shawn was done speaking. "Do you want me to speak with Kathleen, dear?"
He shook his head in refusal. "No Nana."
That was not the reason he came to see her so early in the morning. He was man enough to handle his own affairs.
"I’ll try my best to earn her forgiveness. All I need right now is your blessings, Nana."
Old Mrs Hudson nodded in understanding and reached out to envelope him in a loving embrace.
"You’ll always have my blessings dear, especially in matters that have to do with your happiness."
"And I pray that you will be able to move Kathleen’s heart again as she is still very embittered against you."
"But when it comes to the matters of a woman’s heart, you must shed your pride and continue to be patient with her. Don’t be too presumptuous when you are dealing with her."
"Do all you have to do to earn her forgiveness, but make sure it remains within the boundaries of morality. That way you can slowly warm your way into her heart again."
"But one thing you must not forget is that, you are not alone in all these. I also long to have her back as my granddaughter. So, whenever you need my assistance, don’t hesitate to ask, as I will always be there for you."
"Thanks Nana. I will do as you have said," Shawn promised.
"I trust you will, my dear." They held each other’s gaze, sharing a moment of unspoken understanding.
He cherished the special bond that had been forged between them through years of love and understanding which never existed between his mother and him.
"I will be on my way now, Nana. Take care of yourself," Shawn said and kissed his grandmother on the forehead before leaving.
His heart was filled with gratitude to God for sparing his grandmother’s life which he made possible through Kathleen- the more reason he needed to debase himself, if need be, to get her back into their lives.
He was glad he made the decision to come see his grandmother as the brief interaction with her had somehow brought a sense of calm to his troubled heart and he drove to Wyatt corporations with renewed hope.
He arrived just in time to see Jason’s car pull up at the same time as his.
They exchanged greetings after which the two bosses stepped into the huge building together.
Without doubt this attracted a lot of attention from the staff, who were also reporting to the office at that time.
They took the special elevator upstairs, leaving everyone staring at the empty space where they had stood in stoned silence.
"I’ve never seen these two together," one of the staff broke the silence. "Do you think something big is happening soon?"
"Must something big happen for the two bosses to meet?" Another staff threw back.
"What are you saying? Are you a stranger in Baltimore? Didn’t you see the news about the lady boss and President Hudson trend for weeks on end?"
"So?"
"That doesn’t mean they are here to discuss a marriage alliance between the two families."
"It wouldn’t be a big deal for that to happen anyway. They are well matched in every aspects."
"Let’s go in first," one of them drew their attention back to the elevator that just arrived and the topic was temporarily dropped as they sought for a space in the elevator.
