Chapter 122: Are You Still Single?

"I’ve seen the way people with disabilities are being discriminated against even in matters relating to their health."

"And it has been on my mind to reach out to them so that people with disabilities can also have equal access to health services and information just like those without disabilities."

"So when I heard about your foundation I felt it was the perfect platform to birth that desire."

"What I actually have in mind is providing a health facility where they can get medical attention on the go, at little or no cost. It will be targeted only for children and women with disabilities."

"I have been planning this for years and have also talked to some of my friends and colleagues and they are willing to be of assistance. Which means we will have the best hands and equipment for the facility."

"So what do you think about cooperation?" Kathleen asked.

Hearing Kathleen’s words, Candace could no longer sit still beside her husband.

She gradually stood up, staring at Kathleen unblinkingly as she tried to process every word she had just been told.

A minute later, she tried to open her mouth to speak but no word was coming. "Em..., I... , em..., what did you say? I don’t think I heard you properly."

Kathleen gazed at the awestruck woman and cracked up laughing.

"I didn’t know you were this funny."

"It’s not funny, my dear. Do you know what you have just proposed?"

"For years I’ve been trying to save up in order to propose the idea of partnership with a hospital."

"But with what you have just said, we will have our own facility that is designed to attend to the specific needs of these women and children."

"So does that mean we have a cooperation?" Kathleen asked again.

"Is there any need to still ask? Of course we do, as a matter of fact even before I knew you, the cooperation had been settled."

Kathleen couldn’t help but laugh at her great sense of humor.

"Just wait until I break the news to everyone. I’m sure my own reaction would be a child’s play compared to that of others."

"On behalf of my wife and the foundation, I want to sincerely thank you for this great support. It means so much to all of us." Stanley was speechless also.

When he had discussed with her, he had no idea what she had in mind would be this massive.

"No need to thank me, we are all working towards the same goal. It is for humanity," Kathleen dismissed.

"Is there anything you would want to draw my attention to before I take my leave?"

"I believe my wife would like to know how we can come in apart from making the people available."

"Like I said earlier, I’ve started planning long ago, but needed the perfect platform to launch out. Since I wasn’t sure where to use, I’ve not been able to secure a piece of land for the building. You can help with that if you don’t mind."

"Getting land is a piece of cake. The land will be ready this week, I can assure you," Stanley Rosse assured.

All he needed to do was talk to his brother’s friend, President Hudson and that will be settled.

"That’s good. But the most important aspect is that, anyone that will benefit from the service, will have to go through Living Hope Foundation. The foundation will be in charge of coordinating and managing the entire process so that everything runs smoothly."

"The building, equipment and manpower will be supplied from my own end."

"We have a team of dedicated staff who will be able to ensure that nothing goes wrong," Candace said.

"That’s why I chose Living Hope. I can vouch for your ability and sincerity."

"It’s settled then," Kathleen said and was about standing from her seat.

Seeing that Kathleen was about to leave, Candace decided to raise another pertinent matter which has also been a major area of concern in her heart since she met Kathleen.

"Can I ask you a personal question, Janice?" she asked hesitantly.

Kathleen’s slender brow rose in confusion, but seeing the innocent look in Candace’s eyes, she couldn’t refuse her. "Go on," she shrugged and sat back down.

Stanley also gave his wife a curious look as he had no inkling about what his wife had in mind. He only hoped her imagination had not started running wild.

"Are you still single?"

Stanley: "???"

Kathleen: "????"

They were both dumbfounded.

Just like he feared, his wife was really not to be trusted.

His expression turned cold as he glared at his wife. "What has Dr Janice’s marital life got to do with you?" he scolded.

Turning to Kathleen he quickly apologized.

"Please, I’m sorry. I know she went too far and shouldn’t have asked such a personal question."

Kathleen smiled slightly. Candace was not the first nor was she going to be the last to try and match her with someone. So she was not the least bothered by Candace’s question.

"It’s Ok. I’m not offended," Kathleen dismissed with a wave of the hand. "But Candace, do you mind telling me the reason for your sudden interest in my marital life?"

Candace, who was already feeling remorseful for going too far after her husband’s rebuke, was instantly relieved when she heard what Kathleen said.

"It’s just that you are so beautiful and I was thinking of my younger brother," she answered, her tone still sounding apologetic.

Stanley turned sharply towards his wife, his forehead creasing in a deep frown.

As far as both of them knew, Candace was an only child. When did she suddenly have a younger brother that he, her husband didn’t know about.

Before he could express his doubt, he suddenly remembered their conversation this morning before leaving the house.

’Steffan,’ he scowled.

’It’s that good for nothing brother of mine that doesn’t have the balls to look for a partner himself.’

Now his wife have been placed in such a situation that she can’t stop thinking about him all day to the extent of raising it during such a sensitive meeting.

’I think I have to reduce their interactions to the barest minimum before my wife turns into a complete match maker.’

Candace on the other hand pretended not to notice her husband’s scowling face.

"You see, my brother also happens to be an outstanding medical doctor and since both of you are in the medical field and equally outstanding, I couldn’t help but let my imagination run wild," she explained.

"I understand, Candace, but I’m already a mother of two," Kathleen announced. An affectionate smile adorned her face as she thought of her children.

That was a huge shocker to Candace. She never saw that coming,

"I never knew you were already married and even had two children, given your perfect shape and gorgeous looks," Candace praised, making an effort to hide her disappointment.

She felt sorry for Steffan, as she was sure they would have made the perfect couple instead of that white faced fool her mother in-law chose for him.

She sighed resignedly, "I guess my poor brother is not lucky enough to have such an amazing person like you."

"Thank you for your compliments, and the same goes for you. If I haven’t seen you with your husband today, I would also not know you were married. I think he is doing a great job."

Kathleen intentionally added that last part to ease the tension he saw in Stanley’s features. She could tell he was struggling with how to deal with his wife’s inquisitive nature.

Sure enough, his countenance changed the next minute. "You are too kind, Janice."

He was mature enough to understand her intentions, but who doesn’t like to hear others praise them especially when it comes to family matters.

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, the warm atmosphere was restored and Kathleen felt it was safe to leave but not before Candace extracted a promise from her to have dinner with her.

’She is such an interesting person,’ Kathleen smiled. Despite her excesses, Kathleen did not feel awkward interacting with her.

After leaving the couple, she pulled out her phone when she got to the car.

"Hey, Ms Moore. Do you have time for a poor victim this afternoon," she feigned helplessness as soon as Cheryl picked up.

"Poor victim indeed," Cheryl sneered. "I can see your handwriting all over the place. I must say my dear sister in-law is brutal. When I grow up, I would like to be like you."

"Which part of you is still growing ? You are already an old cargo," teased Kathleen and quickly moved the phone away from her ears.

"Janice!!!" Cheryl screamed over the phone, and Kathleen was grateful she took action fast if not by now she would have been on her way to the ENT department.

"Who are you referring to as an old cargo?" She heard Cheryl say.

"Quit whining already and tell me, where are you?"
