Chapter 93: Her First Breath

The same person?

Theo’s breath hitched, and her knees nearly buckled. Her eyes trembled with pure disbelief and shock, unsure whether to believe this or not.

The same person.

It made no sense, and yet it did.

It was said that everyone had their dark parts. That side of yourself you hide from everyone. Theodora always shared these sides with her mother, though ~ whenever she got too excited or too mad, and the pendant glowed, it was as if something inside of her was scraping from within and trying to get out.

She knew this.

It was why her mother had told her to always control her emotions.

But right now, without the pendant around her neck and even without her wolf present that heightened her senses, she felt it very clearly.

Staring at this reflection, she saw a stark recognition.

A strange sense of Home. A kind of familiar, twisted warmth.

It was hard to grasp even for her - it was that part she had successfully ignored, but now that the thing...no, the truth was in front of her, she couldn’t deny it anymore.

The Reflection watched her unravel her words as if she had been waiting for this moment for a very long time.

Theo sucked in a deep breath, but her lungs felt empty still. Right, there was no air in here.

"You’re nothing like me," She grounded hard.

"You’re exactly like me, Theodora," It hissed back, "You locked yourself up the moment you realised what you truly are and clung to who you wanted to be so badly. You blamed fate for having me, despite knowing that there would be no you, without me,"

Theo’s fists trembled, rage coursing through her veins, "I am not you, and I will never be you!" She hissed too and stepped closer to the reflection, "You can keep trying to poison my mind with your words, but I’m already immune to that,"

"Never be me?" The reflection laughed softly, "Are you sure about that? Hmm? Let me ask you something, how much longer do you think you can escape your marriage with Cain?"

Cain?

Theo’s brows furrowed, "What does Cain have to do with all this?"

"Who do you think gave him the name, the ’Dark Alpha?’ It’s because of what he is capable of,"

"W...what are you talking about? What is he capable of?"

"Unlocking the deepest, strongest parts of us," She paused for a second, "He’ll elevate you so high, and he’ll rebirth you into your true form,"

Theo’s breath hitched, and she stumbled back, nearly hitting the door again. Something in her cracked, and her eyes flashed, but not in the way the demon had expected.

She cracked not with fear, but with fury.

"Seraphina is the only part of me that I would ever accept," She looked up at the reflection, "And you...you can remain locked deep inside of me till I find a way to separate you,"

"You cannot separate us no matter how hard you try!" The Demon roared

"Then I’ll just have to die trying!" Theodora growled back, "But not today, you little bitch. I’m not dying today!"

The reflection blinked, "What?"

"I’m not done living, and I’m not done fighting," She heard the fight still going on outside, "And I sure as hell ain’t done with them,"

The first bodily function came up, and Theo’s pulse picked up softly.

"You think one spark of emotion can break through this? You’re barely a flicker. I hold the body. I hold the strength. You—"

Theo moved quickly without waiting to hear another word. She let her will guide her, and her fingers closed around the reflection’s throat and unlike the last time, she made solid contact.

The demon’s eyes widened just slightly, and the darkness around them began to tremble.

Theo brought her face inches from the reflection, "You want my anger?" she hissed, "You want my fear? My love it when my emotions get the best of me? You get all of it,"

The void rippled.

"I’ve spent years suppressing you with the Pendant" Theo growled again, "But you forgot one thing..."

She squeezed even harder.

"I suppressed you, too, myself!"

Power surged up her arms like wildfire, not from her wolf awakening, not from the demonic energy of her foe, but one that was purely from her.

The demon choked, the first break in her composure. "You...can’t..."

"I can," Theo said, "Because if you’re me..."

She turned around and slammed the reflection against the pulsing door.

"...then I’m you,"

The door buckled behind the great pressure, and the demon thrashed, her black veins flaring, "STOP--"

But Theo leaned in, her voice a cold whisper, "Get out of my way, you ancient bitch!"

And then, she drove the reflection through the door with everything she had, and the world around them detonated.

The darkness behind them shattered like a collapsing star, and its fragments spiralled all over the place as Theo was violently sucked forward through the door.

.

Outside, Theo’s body kept convulsing like lightning had just hit it.

The demon had been shaking and turning like something else shaking it up from the inside. Even though the forest kept attacking them, Zeke and Sylas had finally pinned her down.

Zeke sank his claws into her shoulders this time. He couldn’t risk her pushing him off a second time, and it pained him to hurt Hellcat’s body.

"Now, Sylas!" He growled out through his wolf, desperation clawing at his heart.

Sylas pressed his palm to her sternum, and shadows condensed in them and smashed into her body hard. Her body arched up for a second, and the demon let out an inhuman scream as her veins writhed and burned.

The demon knew she was being subdued.

And so, she opened her palm, and the pendant slipped from her touch. After all, the pendant was the main source. Even if Theo came back to life, without it, the demon wouldn’t be locked.

But Sylas already saw that coming.

His shadow snatched up the pendant midair, and even though he hissed from contact, he still managed to drag it with him and place it right on Theo’s chest.

Her body jerked again, harder than the last time.

Once, twice...and then, her eyes snapped open.

Not black anymore.

But Amber.

Zeke and Sylas froze.

Theo lifted her head slowly and smiled.

A real smile.

Her lips moved, "Hey, guys...,"
