Chapter 184: Hello, Father

Alpha Cain stood with an effortless raw intensity that forced Theo to step back. He was exactly as she remembered - young-looking, dominant, unparalleled strength carved into his nature.

Cain wore a robe. A ceremonial robe that dragged behind him, the skin of a tiger wrapped around his arms and legs, and the fur draping his shoulders and waist.

He was between lean and large muscle, and stared at them like he could see everything far and beyond. Like everything had been decided already.

His gaze slid to her, and every nerve in her body screamed at her to run, "My runaway," He said softly, like a person spotting his lover from across the room.

Zeke stiffened violently, and Cain’s gaze moved over to him, "Always ready to throw a punch. Gravemont didn’t change you one bit, son," His eyes hovered over Zeke’s bloody form, and how he was barely holding himself upright, "And since you’re still alive, I’m guessing jarred didn’t do his job properly,"

Theo blinked. Did Cain seriously order someone to actually kill his own son?

"Pathetic," He hissed again, "My biggest disappointment. I’ll free you from your endless torment soon,"

Theo has seen Zeke angry many times, but never this mad. His bloodshot eyes vibrated with maniacal madness, and Theo was pretty sure he would have attacked by now if he weren’t so weak.

Theo opened her mouth to speak, but her teeth chattered with fear instead. She was frozen in her spot, too afraid to move. She’s been afraid many times, but it’s never felt this horrifying.

Cain was actually here!

"Our wedding was supposed to take place about two months ago, Theodora," He stated, and began walking up to her, "You ran away, and I let you do as you please. I watched you go that night, linked up with Eric, and took the little truck to Gravemont. I let you breathe in that freedom you’ve so desperately cried for your whole life, and how is it that you repay me?"

No sign. No change in the air.

And Cain was already standing right behind her. The pressure only descended when he was there, and every hair on her skin stood on its ends, her eyes slowly widened as the horror intensified.

Two of his sharp claws pressed directly to her neck, where the mate mark sat. Just a little more pressure, and she would be dead. She couldn’t even breathe anymore. He was beyond fast.

"You sleep with the disappointment, and let him mark you,"

His tall frame towered lethally behind her, slow anger beginning to erupt from him like the start of a volcanic eruption.

There was a swift blur of movement and then Theo found herself standing at the far end of the courtyard, Sylas gripping her arm tightly. Cain stood where he was, his claws now extended into nothing, but it carried a drop of blood.

Her neck was bleeding.

Cain looked up at Sylas, and his eyes gleamed with interest, "My, my," He hummed, "Was that...demon energy?"

Demon energy?! Theo thought. Was that what he had told her about? She was trying to remember the name exactly but failed.

The shadows around Sylas stirred again, and Cain looked like someone whom was staring at his dreams come true. The twinkle in his eyes grew the further he stared at Sylas, and then he smiled, "No wonder I could never get my hands on you," Cain said, dropping his hands to his side, "Master of the Shadows. Cunning. Smart. Powerful. Callous. Strategic...," His smile grew wider, "Golden-black...we finally meet, after so many years have passed,"

Theo felt Sylas’s energy steepened, but he didn’t say anything. His grip on her arm tightened greatly, and she peeked up at him to see a twisted, furious expression in her eyes.

Sylas has always been calm. His expression hardly ever changed for anything, or any situation.

So one could only imagine her shock when she saw him glaring at Cain, even harder than Zeke has ever glared.

"And you’ve been very, very busy," Cain continued, "You actually absorbed all of Erebos’s fragments,"

Theo looked between Cain and Sylas. What the hell was Cain talking about? Is that why Sylas seemed so different?

"You’ll never get what you want!" Zeke spat one second, and in the next split second Cain stood where he was standing and Zeke was crashing hard into another boulder by the other end of the courtyard.

"Zeke!" Theo cried and moved to reach him, but Sylas didn’t let go.

"Let go of me," She said.

He didn’t say anything. His eyes never left Cain. And his grip didn’t loosen at all.

"You’re awfully silent, Golden-black," Cain continued, his dark, cruel eyes dragging off Zeke’s collapsed form like he had just flicked dirt off his palm, and that twinkle returned when he found Sylas again.

Then, Cain’s eyes carried at the way Sylas was holding her arm.

Cain tilted his head a bit, "I thought as much," He continued, "I wondered why you’ve been so hellbent on protecting her. I always wondered why you were there to interfere with the plans I had involving her, and now it makes perfect sense," The smile disappeared, "You have a claim on what’s mine,"

"MINE," Sylas echoed, and the shadows twitched behind him, "You dream too much, Pendragon,"

"Pendragon...," Cain half-smiled, "And do you not... Pendragon?"

Sylas stiffened and the shadows trembled once again. He didn’t seem to be in full control of them.

"Or did you think I wouldn’t notice who you really are?" Cain moved toward them again, "You might have changed your aura, your scent, your voice... but you can never change your blood,"

He was still coming close. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"You’ve brilliantly fooled me for over ten years, and I believed you were dead. But now that you stand in front of me for the first time since that night and I look at you, I can instantly tell that you’re wearing a mask...and before this night ends, I’ll peel it off you, son,"

Theo blinked. Son?

No, it didn’t make sense.

She looked up at Sylas once again, and he was still twitching badly. He had lost his temper and calm in front of Cain.

The man who never faltered before anything. Sylas has always been mysteriously grounded before everything, been preparing himself for this moment.

And yet...

Slowly, Sylas’s lips curved by the edge, "Hello to you too, Father,"
