Chapter 144: Dinner Date

Sylas had asked Theo to close her eyes as they walked in. A surprise was waiting which she could already tell as he led her through the living room, and then she heard a door open.

"You’ll find a box on the bed. Open it, and wear whatever is inside,"

He closed the door just as she opened her eyes. One look around the place and her face was all flushed from embarrassment. The room was too familiar to forget - and the door by the corner!

The bathroom she had shared her kiss, and her first fatal first-hand embarrassment.

A shiver ran down her spine recalling her puke dropping down his chin. She was pure chaos while drunk.

Then, she looked at the bed. As Sylas had said, there was a small box waiting for her. She opened it and gasped softly at it.

There was a beautiful black dress inside, and a pair of dark shoes. She took out the dress, unfolded it and her eyes widened as she took in every detail it had. It was a fitted dress, reeking of elegance and drunk in light instead of reflecting it.

Her fingertips grazed the material, and she felt her breath catch at how luxurious it felt.

She undressed herself and put it on. There was no mirror in the room to see what it looked like on her, but one thing was sure: it fit like a glove, and was comfortable to move in.

She gently knocked on the door, "I’m done,"

She didn’t hear him coming, only heard the doorknob turn and Sylas opened the door once again.

He opened his mouth to say something when he saw her, and for a heartbeat, the world simply... stalled. His eyes darkened slowly, deliberately, as if he were taking her in piece by piece, committing the sight to memory.

The bond between them flared. It was hot, possessive and unmistakable, and his jaw tightened like it took effort not to reach for her.

His fingers brushed against her waist with intimate certainty, and his voice dropped into something only meant for her, "It was worth the hours I spent choosing this dress," He uttered and took her hand, "You look like mine,"

His words sank deeper than her skin, and heat bloomed up her neck and rested on her cheek. She swallowed, her eyes lifting to meet his, "Thank you,"

He had also changed. He was wearing a deep charcoal Henley with two buttons undone just enough to hint at the strength beneath without showing off. Then, he had dark, tailored lounge trousers.

"Don’t thank me, Venom," He tugged her softly, and she walked with him.

Looking up, Warm light spilt from a single lamp in the corner, casting honeyed shadows across the walls and turning the living space intimate.

The table was just enough for two, and looked like something set with utmost care. A clean cloth. Two plates. Candles flickering low with their flames dancing every time someone moved.

She looked back at Sylas, "Is this a dinner date?"

He pulled out a chair for her, "Maybe,"

"How charming of you," She cooed as she sat down.

She’s been feeling anxious ever since she wore the dress, and now it has tripled. She’s never been on a...fancy date like this before and wasn’t sure how to behave.

She looked down at the meal, and thought she was hallucinating for a second, "Is this... venison? Blood-glazed venison medallion?!" She had been so nervous that she had failed to register the scent of deer meat in the air sooner.

"Have you had it before?"

Theo looked like she could cry, "No! But...," It looked so mouthwatering, "I can’t wait to have a taste,"

He sat down opposite her, watching her fidget anxiously as she stared at the cutlery, not knowing which to use.

Sylas brought his chair next to her along with his dish, then he picked up a dinner knife and fork and cut into the glazed meat. She watched with unshaken concentration as he did it so smoothly, then brought the meat to her lips.

"Open,"

She leaned in with parted lips and softly chewed on it. The meat tasted like butter, lightly charred and sticky on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside.

Her eyes almost popped out as the flavours mixed into this dark sensation. She simply closed her eyes, screaming in her mind from the pure sweetness of it.

"Where did you get this from?" She asked the moment she swallowed it, "I mean, what...chef made this? Who on earth did...,"

Sylas chuckled softly and raised another to her lips, "Here, take another bite,"

She took it quickly, this time crying out as the flavours exploded on her tongue again. This wasn’t just meat anymore, this was heaven. Raw heaven.

"You need to tell me who made this," She cried again after the fifth bite, "I need to hug them, I just need to do something! I can’t just hold in all this excitement!"

"I’ll introduce you to the chef before the night ends, I promise,"

Introduce her? "Is he here?" she whispered.

"Maybe," He whispered back.

She eyed him softly, but another bite and she was smiling all over again.

Her plate was empty before she knew it, and she was secretly beginning to drool at his untouched food. Hopefully, he wouldn’t notice.

"That was the best meal...," She paused, recalling Zeke’s steak, "That was one of the best meals I’ve ever had," She corrected.

"I’m glad you enjoyed it," He said softly.

"You said you were gonna explain some things to me, right?"

"Yes," The softness in his eyes turned serious, "I had been thinking of how to tell you without startling you too much on the whole story, but there’s no other way than to take the straight road about it,"

Her heart was racing.

"Your Pendant, The Demon, The Veil, Cain. Let me break down everything to you with the information I’ve gathered over the years about them,"

There was a heavy pause between them.

"Let’s start with the Dark Alpha of the Obsidian Crown Pack- Cain Pendragon, and how he actually got the name ’Dark Alpha ’ in the first place. And no, it wasn’t just because of his dark nature and influence,"
