Zeke looked like a man confronting his greatest enemy.

It wasn’t Sylas, or Cain, or any student in the academy.

It was worse. A Romance Novel he had gotten from the library hours ago.

He sat on the edge of his bed, holding a small pink and gold paper back between his fingers like it might bite him. His brows were furrowed so hard they almost touched, and every few seconds he would squint at a second like he was trying to decide something.

His lips parted, his lips twitching with horror, "Why is he staring at her ’like she hung the moon’" He muttered under his breath, "What the hell does that even - why would anyone stare at someone like that? Why are there so many feelings in this thing?" He was truly baffled, flipping the pages reluctantly, "Isn’t he just supposed to say what he wants? What’s with all the confusion and overthinking a hug for three pages?"

Zeke slumped back against his pillow, genuinely exhausted as he book slipped off his fingers.

He’s been trying to figure out the reason why Hellcat had ran out on him earlier. He thought Romance novels might answer his questions, but they were even more complicated and touchy than he expected.

Feelings and emotions filled every page. It was almost disgusting, but he wouldn’t say that.

Those same emotions plagued him right this second, and he wouldn’t rest till he’s sorted them out.

He needed to know what he had done wrong, and how to rectify it. He didn’t want any awkwardness between himself and Hellcat when she returned. He wanted to be able to hold her in his arms without her scurrying away like a mouse.

He had spent his days reading lots of novels, and it had taken him a while to realise that...his emotions weren’t so different from the male lead’s in most of the books.

The initial denials when the feelings started to sprout.

When he started to succumb to them without even realising.

And when it dawned on him that he had feelings for her.

How they would overthink even a simple hug, smile, or handshake.

Zeke looked like a murderous cat forced to wear a sweater, and he was currently reading another kiss scene. His heart pounded as he replayed his kiss with Hellcat earlier this morning.

That was the exact moment the doorknob turned open, and Tobias walked into the room

Zeke almost cursed as he snapped the novel shut so hard it made a clap sound. He had forgotten to lock the door after returning from the library.

"Get out!"

Tobias saw the floral cover, and a demonic smile filled his lips, "Well well well, what do we have here?"

"It’s not mine!" Zeke said immediately, a bit flustered

Tobias crossed his arms, ignoring Zeke’s glare, "So the book ’Hearts entwined: A love worth burning for’ just suddenly materialised in your hands?" Tobias’s gaze shifted to the other stacks of romance novels on the drawer next to Zeke’s bed, "And those too?"

"It’s..." Zeke quickly thought of an excuse, "It’s goddamn research now get out of my room before I throw you out myself!" He snarled, ready to throw a book at Tobias.

"Oh? Research?" Tobias stepped closer, "Trying to romance someone? Haven’t you traumatised people enough already with those glaring, piercing eyes? Now you wanna do it...with love?"

Zeke shot up from bed, "Shut it, Toby!"

"You know, if you need tips on these kinds of things, I could help,"

Zeke paused before she could wrap his fingers around the boy’s neck, "What?"

"Yeah," Toby said, "But first I gotta know who you...are bothered about and what the problem is exactly,"

Zeke frowned, "I’ll figure it out myself,"

Toby glanced at the books again and shook his head with amused dismay, "It doesn’t seem like you’re making much progress with that,"

Zeke almost punched him, but it was true. The books weren’t giving him the exact information he required, "How about I only tell you what the problem is, or I throw you out after I’m done ripping you limb from limb, deal?"

Toby took a step back, frightened, "Deal,"

"And if you mention this to anyone!" Zeke growled softly, "I will end you,"

Toby raised both hands in surrender, "Relax lover boy. Your secret’s safe with me,"

Zeke grumbled, reluctant to ask. He’s never done this before, and it was so different from his character.

"Let’s say...," Zeke began, his throat itching as more words came out, "A person kisses another person because they can’t control themselves anymore, and everything about the kiss was going well, till the other person...gets aroused, and then they run into the bathroom and no matter what you say or do, they won’t tell you exactly what’s wrong,"

Tobias thought about it for a second, "Does that other person like the first person too? Or was it a kind of situatioship? Or are they feelings one-sided?"

"Uhmmm," Zeke shrugged, then he glared again, "Just answer the damn question!"

"I can’t answer if I know what I’m dealing with," Tobias retorted, "I need to know the kind of relationship you’ve had with the person,"

The relationship he’s had with Hellcat? They fought most of the time, "We quarrel a lot," he answered. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Is it like...’I’m crazy about you’ kind of quarrels or, ’I’m gonna rip out your lungs’ kind of quarrels?"

"The latter,"

"One-sided, it is," Tobias concluded, "The first person likes the second person and the second person doesn’t like the first person. Which leads me to my final question: was the kiss like a spur-of-the-moment thing?"

"The second person kissed the first person first," Zeke said.

Tobias blinked, "Oh! That makes it even more complicated,"

"What do you think?"

"If the whole thing was like a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing," Tobias clicked his tongue, "Then the second person must have felt embarrassed that he got turned on. That’s why they ran away,"

Embarrassed? Was Hellcat embarrassed? Was that really it? He did recall seeing her face red a lot of times.

"If that’s the case, how does the first person make the second person understand that they don’t have to feel embarrassed?"

"Oh, that’s easy," Tobias said, "You just gotta show them how much you want them too. Take out that dick and swing it around them!"

Zeke didn’t know if the idea made any sense, and he wasn’t sure how Hellcat would react. But if she had been so embarrassed just because she had gotten aroused, then maybe letting her know how much she affects him back would make her feel better. It’ll let her know she also has an effect on him.

"Good, now get out!"

"But I gave you some advice. Why do I still have to leave?"

"It’s almost curfew, genius! And I don’t want you here when Hellcat returns,"

Tobias was about to say something else, when another demonic smirk touched his lips, "I already figured out you’re the ’First person’ in this discussion, so is Thaddeus the ’Second person?’ Toby gasped, "Did the Great Zeke Pendragon kiss a guy? You’re gay now?"
