The First Mythical Dragon: Harem System-Chapter 237 - 236
"Like, for real, how did you do it?" Jake asked, his eyes wide as he stared at the duo standing before him. Max and Jim had returned a few hours ago to the Hunter Association, and right now, the three of them were in Max's and Jake's shared room.
Jake stood in front of them like a detective interrogating suspects, confusion etched deeply across his face as he examined the dragons before him, his body tense as if expecting a lie at any moment.
"It was just a by-product of what we went there to do, I guess," Max replied casually, shrugging as though the matter barely concerned him. He walked over and sat on his bed, crossing one leg over the other with ease.
"Wait, wait, wait. What exactly did you even go there to do? Why did you and Jim leave the association in the first place?" Jake asked, raising a brow as curiosity mixed with disbelief.
"Well, I suppose I can tell you. After all, you already know what I am," Max said, leaning forward slightly as Jake pulled a chair over and sat in front of him, his eyes never leaving Max.
"I had a theory a few weeks ago. I thought I might have the ability to turn a human into a dragon, so I took Jim with me to Slough to test it out. And it turns out, my theory was right. After turning him, we got caught up in that mess."
"Wait, wait, wait," Jake stammered, waving his hands frantically in disbelief. "You mean that you can actually turn a human into a dragon? For real? Did it really work?"
"Tell me," Max muttered, glancing at Jim, who let out a long, calm sigh and closed his eyes. His breathing evened out, steady as stone, and before long, his fangs protruded sharply, a pair of horns slid smoothly from his hair, and scales lined his arms and parts of his face. Jake's mouth fell open, his eyes widening in sheer shock.
"Th…th…this is insane. Too valuable." Jake jumped from his seat, moving toward the newly transformed dragon with awe. He carefully ran his fingers across the scales, marveling at how real and sturdy they felt. Then he turned sharply to Max, his expression eager.
"And now? How strong is he?" Jake asked, his voice a mixture of fear and excitement.
Before Max could answer, Jake's eyes widened as Jim spun around with lightning speed, lifting his arm just in time as his fist collided with Jake's forearm with lethal impact. The sheer force of the punch slammed into him, shaking him, but Jake didn't budge an inch. He grit his teeth, staring at Jim, whose eyes glowed a fierce gray.
"Hpmh. I suppose he is strong," Jake muttered, twisting his arm experimentally a few times.
"Tsk! No fair! My punch didn't even move him back," Jim scoffed in annoyance, stomping across the room and crashing into Jake's bed with a deep frown etched on his face.
"Not my fault you are still weak. Or have you forgotten who I am?" Jake asked with a raised eyebrow, twirling his hand before sitting back down with a small, amused smirk.
"Also, I turned the leader of the gang controlling Slough," Max continued calmly. "She's a dragon too. A powerful one at that. I left her in charge of the town while inputting your number into the burner phone you distributed. If she needs to report, it goes straight to you." Jake nodded along, rubbing his chin as he absorbed the information.
"Your ability to turn humans… how many more can you change now?" Jake asked, a mixture of excitement and concern flickering in his eyes.
"I only have one last slot for now. And I plan to find a human already at the peak of their capabilities. Not a hybrid—I'm not even sure if it would work on a hybrid. Too risky," Max replied. Jake nodded, his mind spinning with possibilities as he considered just how powerful their new draconic ally truly was.
"True, true. It's risky right now. I mean, what if the hybrid loses their abilities? That would be a huge hassle," Jake added, leaning back into his seat with a contemplative frown.
"I have a question though," Jim said, rolling onto his back and then sitting upright to stare at Jake, his expression curious. "The hybrid serum we plan on purchasing… how much does it actually cost, and where exactly would we get it from?"
"Oh." Jake mumbled, letting out a heavy sigh as he rubbed his temples. "Unfortunately, the price isn't fixed. It varies depending on the situation and the auction."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Max asked, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"You see, there's a particular tier 1 city that has a famous auction house. That auction house is one of the largest in the entire country, and in fact, they control that city almost entirely on their own, making it difficult to interfere with their operations. Rumor has it that the auction house is owned by one of the kings, but we haven't been able to confirm how true that is yet," Jake explained, leaning forward, his gaze serious as it swept over the two dragons in the room.
"So we would need to participate in an auction to get the serums?" Jim asked, raising one brow in intrigue.
"Exactly. That's because aside from the scientific corporations, the auction house is our best chance. If we get it from there, we won't have to deal with other complicated issues, but there are still some problems to consider," Jake added, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"Which problems?" Max asked, his expression calm but alert.
"Firstly, as a gang, we need our own personal mode of transportation with a private driver. Secondly, we only have enough money to purchase a single serum, which means we have to find a human we can completely trust. Someone loyal, dependable, and willing to do absolutely anything for the gang," Jake replied. Max and Jim exchanged glances, weighing the implications.
"Now how do we do that? The humans in our gang are still new to us. I haven't spotted anyone we can fully trust yet," Max said, letting out a deep sigh as he leaned back in his seat.
"That is why I said I'm still confused," Jake admitted, slumping back, looking frustrated but thoughtful.
"Hold on… I think I know who can help." Max suddenly snapped his fingers after a moment of deep thought. He pulled out his smartphone and began scrolling through it, his eyes narrowing with focus, a small grin forming on his lips as a plan began to take shape in his mind.
