Chapter 83: Multiple Personalities...Or Not?

"What?!" Raine scoffed in disbelief, while her husband sat up and glared at the doctor. Had he been so soft this past few days that even an ordinary doctor was able to talk about his son, and his heir at that, in this manner.

Unknown to him, it wasn’t because Doctor Kohath saw him as a soft man but because the doctor had treated other Mega youngsters this days, that the fear and respect he was supposed to have for Ethan DeLoach, had reduced significantly.

After dealing with King Reynolds Alexander, who didn’t bother demanding respect for himself or his son, but wanted to preserve his respect and reputation in the society and needed his son alive to do that, he had been surprised. But after then, when he had to deal with Liam Anderson who didn’t care about respect but only wanted his daughter to be alright, the consecutive incidents had made him think that was how tolerant these wealthy men were. If only he knew how wrong he was.

"Doctor Kohath, you don’t seem so old that you would be fed up of your job? Except I am wrong," Chris threatened subtly.

That seemed to wake the doctor up as he stared wide eyed at Chris, his eyes expressing the fear in his heart.

"I’m so sorry, Sir! It was a slip of the tongue," he stood from his chair behind the desk and bowed repeatedly, repeating his apologies as he did so.

Sighing at the way the man changed his behaviors so soon, Chris stopped him.

"It’s alright. Just answer our questions while utilizing your brain cells, before I get them evicted from their dwelling place," Chris assured him, the assurance not sounding any different to a more terrifying threat.

"Alright Sir!"

Sitting back on the chair, he began, "Young Master Ethan seems to have something like multiple personality disorder, but it’s slightly different..."

Chris’ brows furrowed as he sat up on the chair, "Slightly different? And how does he have multiple personality disorder?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Why?" Raine backed up her husband’s question with hers.

"It’s like this, he probably formed different personalities while he was missing. He could be fierce this moment, and be the sweetest being ever in the next. And he alternates between this characters in the twinkling of an eye that one wouldn’t have the chance to notice he has changed," Doctor Kohath watched as they digested his words, before he continued, "This is actually very dangerous, since you could think you are talking to the polite Ethan one time, and the next moment, he’s attacking you because he thinks you don’t speak to him with the respect he deserves."

Raine sighed, sharing knowing glances with her husband. This was not a new thing, as a doctor had also told them so when their son was still ten years old. They had ignored it then but now, after witnessing what he did to his sister earlier that day, they could not bear to ignore it.

"Then...how do you think he can be cured? He doesn’t have to go to a special treatment hospital, right?" She asked, the worry etched on her face was enough to show the doctor that she wanted to avoid sending her son to a psychiatric hospital at all costs.

"Even with my amateurish experience, I will not recommend for you to send him to a psychiatric hospital."

"Then what do you suggest we do?" Again, Chris’ voice was authoritative as he asked.

"I think, this multiple layers of character was created since he wasn’t sure which of them to maintain. If this is the case, then I will suggest that you try to accept him wholly."

"What do you mean ’accept him wholly’? Did you think I would reject my son because he is sick?" Raine asked again, throwing a small glare at the doctor.

"No, Madam DeLoach! I only meant that you should not show any sort of fear anytime he switches personalities. Then, he would finally feel comfortable to settle on anyone of them, knowing you love him for whoever he is."

The couple nodded, seeing reasons with the doctor’s suggestion.

"What if he settles for the worst of the characters?"

"Then, you would be able to correct him. At this state he is, it’s more likely for him to kill anyone who points out his fluctuating behaviors."

"Alright then, since there’s nothing serious wrong with him, we will take him home with us."

Without waiting for the doctor’s opinion on what he said, he took his wife’s hand and helped her up. Leading her to the door, he had to stop when he heard the other man’s voice.

"Uhm...Sir? I think I should tell you this...Young Master Ethan only needs to get approval from the person he loves the most at the moment, which is most likely to be your family, before he feels relaxed enough to settle on a particular personality. If he doesn’t get the love he wants from that particular person, it doesn’t matter how much love other people showers him because he would not care..."

"That’s alright," Chris replied."Who would he love apart from his mother, I, and his siblings? It’s not like he would love the people who kidnapped him, right? And even if he does, he would have been cured before he came back home."

With those parting words, he swung open the door and walked out of the office, followed closely by his wife.

As they walked along the hallway that led to the ward Ethan was staying, Chris was quick to notice a familiar figure approaching from the other end and he turned to his wife.

"Love, how about you go ahead to the kids? I will join you in a few minutes," he whispered.

Raine gave a nod, taking a left turn and disappearing along the right corner of the path she took. By this time, the approaching figure had reached Chris.

"Liam..." He called, while the person he was addressing smiled wryly.

"I see your son has returned, Chris. Congratulations," Liam extended his hand for a handshake which Chris took.

"Congratulations to you too. My son returned with a mental issue..."

"While my daughter returned with a shortened lifespan..."

As the men hands remained clasped, they stared into each other’s eyes while passing volumes of messages across to each other.
