Chapter 64: Young Expert In Relationship.

As if she was the owner of the room, Esther took her seat on the bed as soon as she entered Shikera’s room.

"You wanted to tell me something?" Shikera asked.

"I wanted to ask for your permission," Esther enunciated, confusing Shikera with the pleading tone in her voice.

"Permission? Shouldn’t you be asking Eth— your father?"

Esther shrugged and shook her head.

"He doesn’t have the say in this matter," she replied.

Though Shikera was still confused, she signaled to Esther to continue and the latter complied.

"I want to live here, with you and Daddy."

"Why...? No, that’s not the point. Why does your father not have a say when this is his house?!"

"Because he’s my father."

Shikera was getting annoyed with the short answers she was getting, so she walked to the bed and sat beside Esther.

"And that should be the better reason you should ask him."

"I don’t need to ask him because he’s my father. Also, he loves you so he’s going to agree if you do but..." she paused, averting her gaze from Shikera’s.

"But what?"

"You don’t need to agree if you don’t want to live with me because...I know you don’t love him, and you might not want to live with your husband’s daughter."

Shikera laughed out loud at the serious expression on Esther’s face. When did little kids become this daring?

"How do you know that?" She asked, in between bouts of laughter.

Still with utmost seriousness, Esther replied, "I can see it in your eyes. You only like or admire him, but you don’t love him."

"What?!" Shikera chuckled. "How old are you, Esther?"

"I’m ten, so what?"

"Esther..."

"Sorry for interrupting, but before you comment on my age, just know that Alexis Alexander is my friend." She wore a smug look as she said that.

Hearing that, Shikera’s expression changed drastically. The smile on her face disappeared as she asked, "Alexis Alexander? Krystal Alexander’s daughter?"

"Correct! She’s your doctor’s daughter. Now, do you believe me when I say you don’t love my daddy?"

Shikera nodded. "Of course, why wouldn’t I?"

Who wouldn’t believe someone associated with Alexis Alexander as long as it concerns matters related to feelings? It was probably because Alexis grew up under a perfectionist like Krystal, but the girl was too intelligent for her young age of 9 in which she could already tell what someone was feeling from the look in the person’s eyes. If Esther was Alexis’ friend, then her ability should not be much different. It meant the girl knew what she was saying.

"And you believe me when I say my Daddy loves you?" Esther asked again.

At this question, Shikera shook her head and smiled.

"Esther, you are right that I don’t love your father, and that’s because I knew him just a few months ago and also...I’m incapable of loving him. I have nothing to offer him," she explained patiently. Even though she knew Esther would not understand what she was saying, she didn’t stop as she wanted to let this out to someone who was able to know what she felt without her saying anything.

"Also, your father is simply attracted to me because he has liked me for four years and still does now. His feelings are going to change one day..."

Esther frowned, interrupting her, "I don’t think so. Daddy didn’t just like you for four years..." She suddenly covered her mouth with her hand to stop herself from talking too much, before staring up at Shikera with an apologetic gaze.

"Sorry, it’s family secret."

What family secret would they let a big mouth like you know?, Shikera laughed inwardly.

"It’s alright. As I was saying, his feelings will surely change one day when he realizes my case is as hopeless as it can get. For now, we need each other for different reasons."

"I don’t understand but I’m going to say okay anyway. Will you allow me live with you?" Esther asked, reverting back to the main reason she was here in the first place.

"Of course, I have no reason to stop you. Wanna go see your Dad?"

Ruthlyn walked up the stairs to her room, a beautiful smile on her face, when she saw her brother pacing at her door.

"What’s the problem, Ray?" She asked, her steps taking her closer to him.

She noticed the way his head shot up when he heard her voice, and she could tell he had been waiting for her for some time already.

"I need your help urgently, Ruth." Raymond walked faster to meet her halfway, while lowering his voice so Cyprian wouldn’t hear him.

Ruthlyn noticed his lower voice and looked behind him, trying to see if there was anyone there but she saw no one.

"Why are you whispering? And what do you want to ask?" She asked the two questions at once as she could see from the way Raymond shifted from one foot to another, that he was impatient.

"I’m not whispering. And Ruth, I need your help with... uhm...can you help me with a dress? Preferably one that you haven’t worn," he requested.

"Why do you need a dress?"

"That shouldn’t bother you. I know you don’t like dresses so there should be countless ones in your closet, right? I can pay you if you want to be paid!"

Ruthlyn’s brows raised in curiosity, "What happened, Ray? You aren’t getting the dress if you don’t tell me why."

Seeing his sister didn’t want to give up, Raymond sighed in exasperation, before answering, "I didn’t want to taint innocent ears, Ruth, but you gave me no choice. Alright, I have a woman in there and things are getting really steamy between us tonight."

"Stop..."

"No, you wanted to hear it. She doesn’t want to continue if she’s doesn’t have a dress she can wear straight to work tomorrow so I needed to get one for her and that’s why I need your help. Now, will you help me?"

"I already asked you to stop! Take her to my closet to choose whichever she wants, I’ll be downstairs so make sure you don’t make much noise." With that said, Ruthlyn turned immediately reiterated her footsteps, as she walked down the stairs.

"Thanks Innocent!" Raymond called after her, before turning to walk into his room.

He pushed the door open and stepped inside, his eyes adjusting themselves to the dim light in a second.

As his eyes caught the figure on the bed, he could do nothing but let out a string of curses.

"F*ck!"
