Chapter 42: Partially Deaf.

The room fell completely silent, the siblings staring at him in shock with their eyes widened and their mouths agape. Shikera was frozen, her fingers hovering over her phone’s screen as she processed what she just heard.

"Am I now partially deaf too?" She wondered. As soon as she thought of that, her hands continued their work.

The momentary silence was broken by the sound of their phones pinging.

"Get Krystal here! I think my ears have gone deaf too," was the message Shikera had typed.

"Or partially deaf cause I think I’m not picking complete sentences..."

Raymond almost burst into laughter at Shikera’s message but seeing Ethan’s expression, he couldn’t bring himself to. He simply replied her message with,

"You heard well, Miss Anderson. Ethan did say what you heard..."

Shikera read the reply before staring at the faces of the others in the room. They sure looked kind of shocked.

But instead of replying to that, she typed,

"I’m hungry and weak please..."

Ethan stood up from the bed, while telling her he would be back in a few minutes. Raymond followed him but Ruthlyn stayed behind, walking towards Shikera’s bed but not sitting on it.

"How are you feeling?" She asked, causing a wide eyed Shikera to look up at her.

Downstairs, Ethan was about to walk into the kitchen with Raymond when they heard the door open. Sharing a knowing glance, they walked towards the door to see Enoch, standing at the doorway with a box of clothes beside him.

"What do you want?" Ethan asked, a suspicious gaze in his eyes.

"I’m heartbroken, Ethan. My girlfriend broke up with me and I need to stay somewhere calm and relaxing so I can cry without holding back," Enoch replied him, his expression showing how dejected he was.

Standing beside Ethan, Raymond’s eyes hardened when he heard the reason Enoch was here. He knew his family was not up to par with The Deloachs but he also knew that Enoch was obligated not to have any sort of relationship until he nullifies the engagement he had with his own sister, Ruthlyn.

Ethan noticed the tense air that emanated from Raymond’s displeasure, making him throw a blank look at his younger brother, who he thought was getting more senseless as the days approached.

"Won’t you be 25 in a month?" he asked.

Enoch nodded, not knowing how that was in anyway related to what they were talking about.

"Alright then. You should break the engagement with Ruthlyn on that same day, so she can be free."

"What..." Enoch started to say, but he kept quiet when he remembered what transpired in the hospital. He continued, "I will, since it seems I’m not deserving of her."

"Good that you know. Take your bags upstairs and prepare to be a slave as long as you stay here," after he was done talking, Ethan walked away from there to the kitchen.

Raymond who stayed behind to help Enoch was quiet until he heard Enoch’s voice.

"You don’t have to help me since...I might even be more worthless in your eyes than I am in Ruthlyn’s. By the way, she was the one I broke up with and I didn’t disrespect the engagement to date another girl so put in a good word for me to my brother." He pulled his luggage after himself and walked up the stairs.

"Put in a good word?" Raymond echoed, before shrugging and taking out his phone to inform Cyprian of the latest development concerning Shikera’s case as she had been disturbing him these past two days.

However, the excited video call he expected to get wasn’t what he got. Instead, he got an annoyed message.

"Don’t message me, Ray if you’re not gonna give me your house address!"

Few minutes ago,

Cyprian sat at her desk, annoyed at the quiet atmosphere in her department. The evil Erica Jordan and her team had been fired and arrested, while the rest of her teammates were still shocked by what had happened that they were not able to work.

Their CEO had given their team a two weeks leave, as a way of apologizing for what their team had gone through. And when the others had taken theirs immediately, Cyprian didn’t because she feared their stubborn team leader would still come to work and have to do everything alone.

Her fears were not unfounded as the team leader really did come to work, without her usual habit of yelling which Cyprian already missed.

After sighing several times in frustration, she was about to sigh again when her phone pinged.

"Dear Lord, let it be Raymond with good new," she prayed, picking up her phone to see that it was Shikera who messaged her.

"Oh My God!"

She didn’t bother replying the message and instead video called her. As soon as the call was connected, Cyprian’s mouth flew wide open,

"Kera! How’re you feeling now?! Are you okay?! Wait, when did you wake up?" A string of questions flew out of her mouth.

Shikera smiled and answered all her questions by text, confusing Cyprian who was growing impatient at her friend’s silence.

"I’m not in the mood for jokes, Kera. Answer me and tell me how you’re feeling, I’m not reading messages."

Cyprian continued watching as Shikera shook her head, before gesturing to someone to come closer. Without seeing the person’s face, Cyprian heard the person say,

"Miss Anderson is trying to tell you to check your messages,"

"You’re never tired of games, Kera, and I’m going to indulge you but not now! Tell me how you feel before we start playing..."

"She says she already answered you by text," the voice came again, making Cyprian read the messages while tugging at her hair in frustration.

Her hands suddenly paused when she read the last message, before her yell rented the air.

"What the f*ck happened, Shikera?! How the hell did that happen? No...I don’t need that. Just tell me your house address and I’ll be there to see you in thirty minutes, I have to see you myself to be really relieved."

Another message popped in from Shikera, which read,

"You know you can’t, Rian. Plus I’m just recovering so I can’t bear to come out now."

Cyprian sighed before texting back. It suddenly looked like she had a problem with talking too because her hands seemed to type like they were her only choice.

"And I’m not asking you to come, Kera! I just need your address and after that..."

"Told you about my husband, Rian,"

Cyprian stood up from her seat, knowing she would have to act on her long time adventure quest. She would have to find Shikera’s husband house and see her friend.

Her phone pinged with a different tone which notified her whenever Raymond messaged her, and she picked up the phone as an idea popped into her head. She was about to start using Raymond Stone.
