Chapter 236: You Know Me?

"What are you two saying? You want to go back to the city?! Especially you, Kera," she asked loudly, her voice rising to its highest pitch."

Shikera and Mignon were shocked at Grandma cooper’s outburst, which was just because they wanted to visit the city.

"Grandma," Mignon walked towards her, thinking that the older woman was nervous on sending the both of them to the city at the same time. "We have to do this for Kera, right? And it’s just for a day so you won’t miss us."

Grandma Cooper hissed, "So? You think this is about missing you?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Confused, Shikera shared curious glances with Mignon who also looked like she didn’t know what was going on.

"So what’s this about if it’s not that?" Mignon asked.

Grandma Cooper ignored the question and turned to face Alan, a forced smile on her face.

"Will you come back later, Alan? I have to talk to this girls."

"Alright, Grandma. I’ll be back," Alan replied, discreetly giving Mignon a thumbs up before walking out of the house.

The house fell silent as soon as the door closed after Alan, Shikera and Mignon waiting to hear Grandma Cooper speak, and their wait wasn’t for long.

"So, you think your leaving this island for a day is what will make me miss you?" she asked, when she finally spoke.

Mignon shrugged. "If you won’t miss us, does that mean we can stay for two days or more? Maybe probably take a short trip around the city," she suggested, a bright smile on her face.

"Leah!" Shikera and Grandma Cooper chorused. Shikera felt like pulling her own hair out in frustration. She could clearly remember explaining to Mignon the reason why she could not go to the city. Was her sister-in-law this dense?

"What? Why are you two screaming my name? I only said since Grandma Cooper won’t miss us, we can take the opportunity to explore the capital city for a few days—" Mignon defended herself, before getting interrupted by Grandma Cooper.

"Shut your mouth, Leah. That was not what I meant. Even having you two out of my sight for a few hours is enough to make me miss you, but you are talking about a whole day. How am I expected to live through a whole day by myself?"

Shikera felt her jaws slack in disbelief, as she wondered how Grandma Cooper had been living before her and Mignon joined her.

Grandma Cooper’s voice broke into her thoughts, "Don’t give me that look, Kera. If you doubt how I feel, remember that you were once fine without your ’husband’ and now you always cry yourself to sleep because of him."

"That—that’s a completely different case, Grandma! He...Ethan is not like—"

"Cut!" Mignon interrupted Shikera’s futile protests, as she placed her hand on Grandma Cooper’s shoulder. " Awwww, Grandma, I didn’t know you loved me this much since all you do is yell at me. Your chance is gone now though, since I and Kera have no choice but to visit the city..." she trailed off, her voice ceasing in her throat when she felt the glare Grandma Cooper was throwing at her.

The older woman sighed, her gaze softening as her eyes moved to settle on Shikera.

"You two can just stay here instead while I go to the city. It’s safer that way," she stated. Before any of them could argue with her, she added,"Shikera’s husband will surely find her if she goes at this time when it’s just a week since she disappeared and you Leah, I told you how I found you, right? I won’t let you go back to a place where you are not sure who is your friend or your foe."

Shikera had nothing to say against the first part of Grandma Cooper’s statement, but the second part about Mignon sent guilt into her heart for some reason.

"I don’t think Leah will be harmed if she goes back to the city...She can be harassed by a crowd but apart from that..." Shikera whispered, trailing off as she looked up to see Mignon’s confused expression.

"Kera, did you know me...or anyone related to me?"

Shikera nodded slightly in affirmation, "I can’t tell you though. And don’t ask me, Mignon. It’s..."

"It’s alright. I don’t want to go back either and since my family is probably ordinary, you should not worry about them finding us. Let’s just get your medical history and find a way to avoid your husband’s family," Mignon uttered softly.

Grandma Cooper observed the two all through their conversation, her mind numbed with shock at Shikera’s claim of knowing who Mignon was. She was very sure the two didn’t know each other and if at all Shikera did know Mignon, why was she quiet all this while.

Sucking a deep breath in, she said in a firm tone,"You two don’t have the final decision here. I will go get the medical history tomorrow. Mignon, get Alan for me and leave Kera alone to rest."

Her authoritative voice stopped the two young ladies from arguing with her, as they decided inwardly to broach the matter later on when Grandma Cooper was relaxed. Swiping her black hair up into a bun, Mignon walked out of the house, a trudge in her footsteps.

"You want to ask me about her?" Shikera questioned, immediately after mignon stepped out.

Grandma Cooper nodded in reply, and she continued,

"You know Leah? What’s her real name and her family’s name? Why haven’t you told us about this since you came here?"

"I don’t know her that well. I only know she’s an idol star that got embroiled in a scandal four years ago... Fans turned against her then and some adults even went to the extent of stoning her when they met her in public but now, her name has been cleared. And I don’t think anyone will try to harm her." Shikera thought Grandma Cooper would ask more questions about Mignon, but the woman shocked her with her next words.
