The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 213: Audition
Shikera chuckled nervously; this woman better be joking.
"You must be mistaken, Grandma Cooper. I have no idea what it’s like to fish or do anything related to it," she stated, waving her hand in front of her face.
"Then what do you want to do?" Grandma Cooper asked.
"I can give you money instead! We will eventually sell the fish we catch for money, right? Just take it as me giving you the money for the fish I sold," Shikera replied.
"And of what use would the money be? We practice trade by barter on this island and as long as I can’t give the sea money to vomit the fishes, we have to fish. You, me, and Leah!" Her tone was final, giving Shikera no chance to refute her decision.
Apart from Grandma Cooper’s firm tone which convinced Shikera from arguing with her, the mention of Leah also got her distracted.
"About Leah..." she started, "Is she really your granddaughter?" She could not be sure if that was really Mignon or just a very perfect look alike.
"Just as you thought, she is not. You both are in the same situation, though slightly different."
"Really?" Shikera probed, wanting to know more about Mignon.
Grandma Cooper noticed that, but didn’t hesitate in answering her, "You seem very curious about her. I found her on the shore just like I found you, four years ago. But she was unconscious so I had to take her to an hotel in the city, and wait for her to wake up. She woke up the next day without her memories and began to call me Grandma immediately, latching onto me. I had no choice but to bring her here since even the police were not willing to find her family."
Shikera nodded, realization dawning on her. It turned out Mignon was found by this woman and brought here to this island, and she was currently without any memories of Ethan and her family that she left behind. Though she still had a lot of questions like why Mignon had been unconscious and why she lost her memories, she chided herself to stop being curious about another person when she was currently in a swamp.
’Not like I can do anything to change the situation. If I tell them she’s Mignon DeLoach and they attempt to find her family, there’s no way I would not be mentioned. Then everyone would be aware that I am here and there would be no hiding place from Ethan, daddy and The Jordans. I should keep myself safe for now and think about her later.’
"I have seen the way you look at Leah though. Do you find her familiar?" Grandma Cooper asked, snapping Shikera out of her thoughts.
"Familiar? Yes! Uhm... there’s no way you won’t find someone as pretty as Leah familiar. She looks just like these celebrities that are always on TV," Shikera said. One hint at a time so when she finally decided to reveal who Mignon was, she would not be regarded as a liar.
Grandma Cooper turned suddenly, her eyes widened in astonishment.
"Right?! I thought she looked like a celebrity too but then, she adapted so easily to life on this island that I could immediately tell she did not have an easy life. Now that I think about it, you do look like a celebrity too. Have you been on TV recently?" she questioned.
"Me?! Ahah.. what would I do on TV? I uh...I have never even seen a TV station. I also had it rough in life," Shikera laughed out loud to erase any doubt that Grandma Cooper might be having. Well, she was not lying since she really did have it rough in life.
"Is that so? Then I should consider having you two debut in an acting audition or something. You can’t be pretty for nothing."
Shikera smiled at that, taking slow steps backward to escape from the kitchen before the woman would begin to really consider what she said.
Breathing a sigh of relief when she got out of the kitchen, she walked to the room she slept the previous night which had now become her room, to unpack her luggage while making a mental note to ask Mignon to show her around the island when she returned.
While thinking this, the thought never occured to Shikera that she would have to stay up until late into the night before Mignon would arrive.
She, together with Grandma Cooper had checked the wall clock countless times that night as they sat in the living room.
"You should eat, Kera. I am used to waiting for Leah and that’s why I am not eating yet," Grandma Cooper said out loud.
Shikera shook her head with a small smile on her face, "It’s alright, I can’t eat that anyways. I’m waiting for Leah to come back so she can take me to the vegetables shop where I can buy fresh—"
"Tsk tsk, what a complex life you live. Are you allergic to any of that? The fish and the rest?" Grandma Cooper cut her off.
"No, I’m not but...I don’t eat anything that has processed food or ingredients in it. Just raw and—"
Again, she was cut off.
"Just shut up and go eat. There isn’t any processed ingredients in it so it’s safe. You can blame me if anything happens to you."
Shikera tilted her head, thinking that what Grandma Cooper said made sense. Since all the food items she was cooking was gotten from the island which did not have any manufacturing company, then it meant all the ingredients were raw. She should be able to eat that, right? 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
She stood up and walked towards the table, prepared to eat when the smell of the fish drifted into her nose, causing bile to rush up her throat.
She turned on her heels abruptly and rushed to the toilet, while Grandma Cooper hurried after her with a worried look in her eyes.
