Chapter 209: Stupid Wish.

Gloom and tension hung in the air, even though it was still the early hours of the morning in the villa. Ruthlyn was the most worried of them all as she paced the living room restlessly, while Raymond and Enoch sat down side by side on the couch. One would be able to tell how tense they were from their sitting posture.

"When is he expected to be back?" Enoch broke the piercing silence, his voice slightly shaking from fear.

"He said this morning," Ruthlyn replied. Turning to face Raymond, she asked, "Any idea what we can do to put him in a good mood before I tell him? So he won’t be that angry."

"You think any sort of good news will appease him in the face of the bad news that we have?" Raymond sighed, raking his hand through his hair frustratedly.

"Then...what do you think he will do when he hears this?" Ruthlyn asked again.

This time around, no one answered as they had no answer to her question. That was the main fear that they had, what Ethan’s reaction would be.

Music Rec: Tattoo By Loreen.

The sound of a car pulling up in the driveway outside, jolted them all as the men rose to their feet, while Ruthlyn rushed to the window to confirm whether it was Ethan or not.

"It’s not him," she breathed in relief.

"Then who?" Enoch and Raymond asked simultaneously.

"Cyprian...Miss Leigh," she replied.

While Enoch fell back on the couch, Raymond walked outside to meet Cyprian. His eyes widened in shock when he saw the state she was in. Apart from her hair, no other thing on her body was as normal.

Her eyes were red and her cheeks puffy from too much crying, while her legs were bare of any footwear. No slippers, sandal or shoe whatsoever.

She was still wearing her nightgown, a sleeveless one. From a glance, Raymond saw from the way she was hugging her own arms that she was cold. Wait...what made her cry though?

"What’s wrong, Rian?" he asked as soon as he got to her. Even before hearing an answer, he pulled her into a hug and wrapped his own arms against hers.

"Kera, she didn’t really leave, right? She was just joking, right?"

Raymond frowned."She told you she was leaving? When was that?"

"On her birthday, she told me in the middle of the night. She said she might leave...and I said I don’t care where she goes as long as she takes me with her. Then Skyler called yesterday evening and told me she is really gone. Tell me Ray, did she really leave?!"

Raymond didn’t give a response, only hugging her tighter as if he wanted the two of them to fuse into one.

"Ethan would get her back. Don’t worry, Rian...You trust us, right?" he whispered into her ears.

"I don’t! I can’t trust anyone, Raymond! How the hell is she going to live? She just experienced so many stupid shits we call life, and this happened?! How is she expected to live?" Cyprian sobbed uncontrollably, the tears rolling down her cheeks like a torrential downpour.

"I...I shouldn’t have listened to her...I should h—have looked for her immediately! I just wanted to respect one stupid wish!" she continued.

"What do you mean by that? Did she ask you to do anything else?" Raymond asked.

"Wh—when she told me that, she asked me not to call for 24 hours as that was the time she needed to make her decision...whether to leave or to stay. I wouldn’t have complied but she...she said this is the very first decision she is taking for herself in as long as she can remember! Can you imagine that, Ray?!"

Wrapping his hand around hers, Raymond pulled her towards the door and into the villa. Their legs had barely touched the living room’s rug when the sound of another car driving in drifted into their ears, causing them all except Cyprian to share a knowing glance.

Ruthlyn rushed to check the new comer from the window and when she caught the familiar physique, she turned to the others.

"He is here...this time," she said.

The living room fell quiet immediately, with only sound of Cyprian’s sniffles breaking the silence every now and then. The sound of the door opening felt like that of bomb that started its countdown, to them, as they awaited his appearance.

"Raymond?"

"Yes!" Raymond shot up to his feet and rushed over to the threshold, wondering if Ethan already knew and had chosen him as the scapegoat. After all, he was the one who lost Shikera after she met Skyler.

"What?" he added, when he got to where Ethan was.

"Why are there no slippers to wear?"

Raymond sighed outwardly in relief, unable to help himself from doing so. He looked down at the shoe shelf which Ethan was pointing to, and replied, "We are all here so..."

"You all?" Ethan asked again, to see Raymond nod in answer. Without saying anything else, he bypassed him and stepped into the living room.

"Why are you all here?" His eyes caught Cyprian who had stopper crying but still had wet eyes that would show that she just stopped crying, and transfered to Ruthlyn whom he was sure was not supposed to be here.

"Did Shikera come home?" he asked, as that was the only plausible explanation and reason he could think of that would make them all stay here like this.

"No," Ruthlyn replied.

"Then..." he trailed off, expecting her to complete the sentence and she did.

"Shikera...she wasn’t at Miss McCallum’s place," she stated.

"Fuck!" Ethan cursed,"Then where is she now?"

’This is the real problem!’ was the thought that echoed in the mind of Ruthlyn, Raymond and Enoch as Ethan asked that question.

"We—we can’t find her. She only left a message for you, through Miss McCallum and that is...’i signed the divorce papers’."
