Chapter 175: Identical Faces

Noah pushed the door open and stepped into the office, his whole aura expressing how angry he was.

"Now that Kera is not here, I think we can all talk without fear of hurting her. My first question will be how is it possible that Kera has the same face as Miss Elizabeth here?" he asked.

"That’s true! Were they twins?" Liam asked, his eyes sparkling as if he just found hope.

"The DNA would match if they were twins," Ethan murmured nonchalantly, everyone in the room nodding at his response.

"Then, how can their identical faces be explained?" Noah repeated his question, this time directing it to Ethan.

"Plastic surgery, during the time she was kidnapped. Didn’t she suddenly look like Miss Anderson when she returned? They did that to strengthen their hold over Chairman Anderson and they succeeded, Miss Anderson here just happened to really have the same face," Ethan replied.

Noah’s brows furrowed when he heard the detailed answer, as he suddenly got the feeling that Ethan probably knew about this whole thing before now. His answer which was totally inconsiderate towards Shikera also made him remember what she had said on the ground floor, that Ethan and her just had fleeting feelings for each other. How was that possible?

"Where is Shikera? Is she okay?" Liam’s voice reached into his thoughts, jolting him.

"She is okay, on her way back to Ethan’s villa," Noah replied. He noticed the slight falling of Ethan’s rigid shoulder when he answered that and he raised his brow.

"Can I speak to you for a moment, Ethan?" he asked.

Though surprised by how casually Noah had called his name, Ethan replied, "I was just about to leave so we can talk on my way to the car."

He turned to Liam and gave a respectful bow, "I will be leaving you here."

Since Liam was the original owner of the office, Ethan saw no reason why he could not leave him there. He passed a significant look to his assistants, Ruthlyn, Enoch, and Raymond, and the trio nodded, following after him and Noah as they went out of the office.

Their short journey in the elevator, was silent as all of them seemed occupied in their own thoughts and Noah didn’t start the conversation until they got to the underground garage.

"So what’s next? Are you planning to divorce Shikera?" he suddenly asked.

Ethan paused, refusing to take a step further as he stared at Noah like someone who had grown two horns on his head.

"Why?" he asked simply.

"You just found out she’s not who you thought you married. And you also seem to be backing the woman up there and her daughter so I thought you might want to divorce her," Noah explained.

"Chairman Anderson didn’t raise the issue of divorce and neither did I, so there would be no divorce," Ethan replied.

Ethan gestured to his assistants behind him and while Raymond went to sit behind the steering, Ruthlyn sat in front beside him while Enoch held the door open for Ethan.

Noah could feel the certainty in Ethan’s voice when he said there would be no divorce, as if there was no reason for him to divorce Shikera.

"Shikera didn’t think that way though," Noah pointed out, causing Ethan who had almost entered the car to stop.

"What way?" he asked.

"She thought you guys were divorcing, like it’s a sure thing," Noah explained.

Ethan exhaled deeply, looking like someone who was suddenly informed he had to work overtime.

"I have to go now. Thanks...for telling me this."

"It’s alright. Good luck, Ethan," Noah waved cheerily, turning to head back to his own car.

As he watched Noah’s retreating back, Ethan could not help but wonder why everybody who grew up with Shikera always seemed to address him casually. Like they knew since a long time ago.

Shrugging, he got into the car and said, "Tell father I can’t meet him today. We can do that tomorrow instead."

"Alright, Sir!" Ruthlyn exclaimed, getting down to her work of contacting Chris DeLoach.

"Are you sure you will come see me once per week?" Esther asked for the umpteenth time that night, causing Shikera to sigh in exasperation.

Shikera had expected her to be asleep when she went to check her in her room, so she hadn’t prepared any excuse to give Esther on why she was leaving. Therefore, she had no choice but to tell Esther the truth when she asked what happened. Shikera had simply told her she was leaving.

And Esther did not ask why, only making sure Shikera promised to come see her at least once in a week. Shikera had agreed but Esther kept asking her while trailing after her as she packed her luggage, that Shikera was beginning to regret telling her the truth.

"I promised already, Esther. I will come see you at school, every Friday," Shikera promised.

"I guess I should still be allowed into the school as an alumnus," she added, in her head.

"Okay! I will trust you and wait for you... mummy," Esther whispered.

Shikera could not help but pull the girl into an embrace when she heard that, and she wondered if she would have taken Esther with her had she been the girl’s real mother.

"Just go upstairs and sleep. Hazel and Daddy will help with your assignment so you won’t miss me much," she consoled Esther, sending the girl upstairs to her room.

Shikera waited until she heard the door close upstairs before turning to walk to the door, while pulling her luggage with her.

She doused the feeling which wanted her to turn back and look around the house for the last time, as she bent to tie her shoe laces. Done with tying it, she patted her sneakers twice and stood up straight only to see the door open.

Ethan walked in alone with his tie and coat in his hand and that caused Shikera to raise her brows. Could he look any more relaxed when her insides were in a turmoil?

"Hey," he greeted, and it took Shikera all of her might not to reply nicely. She didn’t want to have any reason to stay.

"Not great. Excuse me," she replied snarkily.
