Chapter 100: Not His Fault.

Ethan frowned.

"What do you mean ’switch back to Shikera’? I can call you anything I want," he opposed her, dropping the towel he had been using to wipe her face, in the bowl beside the bed.

Shikera sighed, refusing to make eye contact with Ethan as she replied, "I...have nothing to say but then, let’s just forget it. What were you doing?"

Her eyes moved to the wet towel and then to the bowl, before finally coming to settle on his face.

"I was cleaning your face," Ethan answered, shrugging his shoulders. "I didn’t think you would like it if I change your dress again, while you are asleep."

Blushing furiously, Shikera managed to ask, "And why–why will you change my clothes for me?"

"Cause you were sweating, so much that I was beginning to wonder if I should call Doctor Alexander."

"Still," Shikera insisted, "A few minutes of perspiration wouldn’t have done anything. At least we uhm...bathed last night, or...was if early this morning?"

When it was just two hours past midnight earlier that morning, Shikera had been so exhausted that she had fallen asleep without caring about what Ethan would do to her. The next time she woke up, she found herself in the bathroom and with water rushing over her aching body, the single moan of pleasure she released was enough to allow Ethan push into her from behind, causing them to have another round. He had washed her clean after that and worn her clothes for her so why was he cleaning her face when it was just a few hours later.

"Few minutes? I would say, at least 12 hours has passed since you slept. It’s 3pm now," Ethan whispered, smiling inwardly as he took note of the actions each part of her body was carrying out.

From her hands which were gripping the sheets covering her as if it offended her, Ethan could tell she was nervous.

Shikera’s head shot up when she heard the time, and she forgot to be shy for a moment.

"What do you mean it’s 3pm now? Why didn’t you wake me up?!" As she talked, she scrambled up from the bed and stood up to her feet only to fall back to the bed. She could not feel her legs!

Ethan caught her immediately, staring worriedly into her eyes.

"Are you okay? Do you think I should call your doctor?" he asked.

"Are you that shameless?! You want to call my doctor when this is all your fault! Now, why didn’t you wake me up earlier?" Shikera pushed his hand away, biting her lips in pain as she raised her aching legs back to the bed.

Feeling reprimanded, a strange but satisfying feeling, Ethan answered immediately, "I tried to wake you up but you were in a deep sleep. Also—"

"Also what?! Now, because of you Ethan, my second day off is wasted. How will I pack my luggage when I can’t even walk? I will be going to that rural place for two weeks and I can’t even enjoy the day before," Shikera cut him off, complaining. She wasn’t any prepared for what she heard next though.

"Why do you keep blaming me, Kera? You were the one who clearly asked me to prove myself. I don’t mind, we can reenact the events of yesterday so you can remember too."

Shikera’s jaw fell open, as she was finding it hard to believe this was Ethan. This man rarely spoke, she was sure of it but why was he unnecessarily talkative today? Today, the only day when she needed him to keep his mouth shut and accept that he was the one at fault. Even if she was wrong!

"Out of my room," she whispered, barely able to manage any other words than that.

Ethan ignored her, asking another question, "When would you like to eat? I can...make it even if it’s part of the food you aren’t allowed to eat. I will change the processed ingredients in it and replace it with natural ones, how’s that?"

"Can you please...just leave me, Ethan?" Shikera pleaded, tugging at her hair in frustration.

"In a minute. I can help you with packing your luggage and uhm, I can take you out later in the evening, as long as you won’t feel too tired for the trip tomorrow. If you feel like you don’t want to go again too, I can help you with it so you just have to tell me..."

Shikera couldn’t hear anything again, as her eyes were focused on his handsome and usually emotionless face which had an hint of a smile on it now. His black eyes also seemed to be sparkling as he talked, as if he found delight in what he was doing.

Ethan seemed to notice that she had zoned out of their discussion, for he tapped her arm before speaking, "Alright, I’ll go. But I’ll be back in a few minutes so you have enough time to think."

Shikera, who didn’t want him to leave again, could not say anything to make him stop as she watched him walk out of the room. Looking around the room for her phone, she found it on the bedside drawer and picked it up.

Searching for the previous post where she had asked question, she found the person who replied her that Ethan could be impotent.

[Hey! Thanks for your misleading comment and guess what? The man turned out to be ’impotent’ after all!]

As she pressed on the send button, seven words escaped her lips.

"What have you gotten yourself into, Shikera?"

★★★

Ethan dipped his hand into his ears and removed them back, as his eyes wandered around the bar which they were sitting in.

Even with the soft music playing in the background, he could still hear Kera’s soft voice,

"That...Yes! Pick that too...and that one, No, drop that...Pick the red one up and hmmm, I think the white should stay. I don’t need skirts or dresses so pick only slacks and tightly fitted jeans...What else? Could you help me with the red hoodie, and the purple one and that...That too! And that one at that end too..."

As a result of the promise he made when Shikera asked him to leave her room, Ethan had to endure an evening or acting as an errand boy. Shikera still felt aches in her legs when standing up so she directed him to pick anything and everything she wanted. In fact, the only thing he was spared from doing, was emptying her whole closet and finding a way to fit them into the bag she was carrying with her.

Up till this moment, her instructions which mostly consisted of ’that’ was still resounding in his ears.

"So...Ethan? Can you see this place is totally cool? Just because your face can’t be seen by anyone doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up at home? You can come here..."

"To do what?" He interjected, turning to look at her face which was dark under the neon lights displayed in the bar.

"What else? To let off steam!"

As if in sudden realization, Ethan’s mouth parted and closed back.

"Now that I think about it, you’re right. I could get women from here and just make out with them, since they wouldn’t see my face and definitely won’t know who I am. What do you think, Shikera?" He asked, smiling mischievously at her. Though he doubted she would be jealous, he still wanted to test the waters and know if she still saw him as a friend.

"Of course, that’s a totally cool idea. That way, you get to make more friends."

At her reply, the smile on Ethan’s face fell. He had agreed to come to this bar because of her, but it seemed he would forever be a friend to her and in a lower level to Leonard Alexander.
