Chapter 60: That Stupid Girl

This was a mystic state.

And a very special one at that.

It was... resonance.

Just what is the State of Resonant?

When a class holder was extremely compatible with their own class, they could resonate with it at will.

The period during which the holder remained in that alignment was called the ’State of Resonant.’

During this state, the holder could enhance their powers; the duration of this state depended on the user’s understanding of their class.

And of course, it did have a backlash if the holder entered this state without a complete understanding.

Yes, there were two types of states.

One was an [Imperfect] state, the other was a [Perfect] state.

And backlash only applied to the [Imperfect] state.

[Imperfect] and [Perfect] were also sub-stages of beasts.

It was called a mystic state for a reason. During the State of Resonant, the holder’s rank changed into that of a beast.

Not everyone could achieve this state.

In fact, most never even came close.

The higher one’s class, the harder it became to resonate.

Even Lucian Vayne, the protagonist, was never able to enter this state.

But...

Right now...

Right before his eyes...

The dark green-haired girl standing in front of him...

Was in that state.

Not to mention, she was in [Perfect Gold].

Which meant she had a complete understanding of her class and wouldn’t experience backlash.

Her combat prowess was unknown.

’Is she the one who saved the Black Lightning clone?’

’He said she killed a [Captain] rank wraith in a single punch.’ 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’Who... was she?’

Cael’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Her presence didn’t disturb the surroundings.

It blended into them.

Like the world had accepted her as part of its rhythm.

’Since she killed a [Captain] rank wraith with one punch, her powers likely rival those of a [General], right?’

...

At the same time,

In the Everbright Academy.

The teleportation chamber glowed faintly with layered inscriptions carved into the floor. Circles within circles, each one humming with condensed mana.

Seraphina stood at the center.

Her expression was calm. But her eyes were sharp.

One in charge said,

"It seems the teleportation circle in District Neva was destroyed. It is not responding at all."

Seraphina nodded and said,

"Send me to the nearest place possible."

The inscriptions beneath her feet began to glow brighter.

...

The butler General Wraith looked at the strange girl curiously.

He... a [General] rank wraith... felt a trace of danger from her.

It was faint, very faint.

But it was there.

How could a proud wraith, one who took absolute pride in miasma, overlook the fact that he felt threatened by a mere mana creature?

He couldn’t.

So, he attacked instantly, aiming to kill her in a single strike.

His figure vanished from where he stood and appeared right in front of the girl.

His fist shot forward.

The air cracked under the force.

The amber-eyed girl tilted her head slightly.

The wraith’s fist passed inches away from her face.

Her eyes remained calm, yet burned with ferocity.

Like a still lake... hiding something monstrous beneath.

Elowyn reacted instantly.

She activated her SS skill, Time Deceleration.

Red lightning enveloped her body, crackling violently as the world slowed around her.

From Cael’s point of view:

The wraith moved. Red lightning flashed.

And in the next moment, he found himself far away from the battle.

The scenery had changed.

Elowyn... was nowhere to be seen.

’What happened?’

...

BOOM

The girl’s fist collided with the wraith.

The impact echoed like a cannon blast.

The ground beneath them cracked, fragments lifting into the air before crashing down again.

She moved like a feral beast.

With no hesitation, no technique.

Only raw power and overwhelming instinct.

Every strike was brutally direct and relentless.

She used only her fists.

"Who are you?"

The wraith asked as it dodged the dark green-haired girl’s attack.

Its tone was no longer dismissive. There was curiosity now.

Both the girl and the wraith were holding back.

And both of them were aware of it.

Then a flash of red lightning appeared as Elowyn materialized behind the wraith.

She slashed toward the wraith’s neck at her maximum speed and power.

-CLANK

The blade struck and bounced off.

The sound rang unnaturally sharp, like steel hitting something far denser than flesh.

Elowyn’s eyes widened.

She immediately retreated and stopped a little farther away.

Her breathing grew heavier as she deactivated Time Deceleration.

The surprise attack had failed.

The wraith slowly stepped back from the dark green-haired girl.

Its hand moved to its neck.

Its fingers touched something wet.

It paused.

Then looked at its fingers and saw dark, thick blood.

For a moment, the battlefield felt quieter.

Then, it shouted at the top of its lungs.

"HOW DARE YOU?"

The wraith’s voice roared across the street.

It didn’t know who had struck it.

The attack itself had been weak and insignificant.

But the fact that it had been hit at all ignited its uncontrolled rage.

...

Meanwhile,

Cael immediately started running toward the battle.

Elowyn was still there.

That was enough reason for him to go back.

The ruined street blurred around him, collapsing buildings and scattered debris smearing into dark shapes against the burning sky.

Ash clung to his clothes, and the heat pressed against his lungs, but none of it mattered. Only her.

’But what in hell just happened?’

As he ran, he quickly checked his available skills.

His eyes fell on one.

[Time Deceleration (SS)]

Cael froze for a fraction of a second.

Confusion flickered across his face.

But he didn’t dwell on it.

’That red lightning I saw belonged to Elowyn... was this skill... hers?’

The answer felt obvious.

But the implications, he pushed them aside.

His heartbeat thundered louder than the distant explosions. Each second stretched, thin and fragile, as if the world itself was holding its breath.

Cael’s eyes hardened as he realized Elowyn had probably taken him away, thinking he was weak.

A helpless smile formed on his lips as he used the S-Rank skill, teleportation, while muttering,

"That stupid girl."
