Chapter 186: Daniel’s accident

"Miss, what should we do next?" The doctor, in his early twenties, who was the main physician attending the three men in the VIP ward, looked at the woman who had just walked in, wearing black heels and blue shades, making her look untouchable.

The woman stopped near the man in the middle, her sharp nails grazing his chin softly, her expression unreadable.

"Is there any progress?" She asked.

The doctor looked at the three men before sighing.

Before he could open his mouth to give her the recent diagnosis results, a man in black walked into the VIP ward.

"It’s good you are here, ma’am. The data from all their phones has been restored, and there’s a woman who’s been contacting them repeatedly. What should we do about it? Should we call her and tell her what’s happening?" The man asked.

The woman looked at the man sharply before tilting her head and tipping her glasses a little.

"Does returning a call from someone completely irrelevant appear more important to you?" She asked.

She was about to speak more when the man on the right side moved a little.

The doctor quickly rushed to his side.

"He is gaining consciousness," the doctor said, and the woman let her gaze linger on the man in the middle before she moved to the man on the right.

"W-water," Alen whispered, his throat dry, as if someone was pricking needles on his skin.

The woman nodded at the doctor, who immediately got to work.

They let him drink some water slowly before he regained full consciousness and sat with the nurse’s help.

"Sir, how is my boss doing?" Alen immediately looked around frantically, and the woman smiled at him.

"We knew that would be your first question as soon as any of you woke up. That’s why I arranged for all of you to be in the same room. He is good, just unconscious," The woman said.

Alen looked at her gratefully before sighing, his gaze shifting to his boss, whose face had a few cuts.

"Thank you, Sylvia," he said.

Sylvia furrowed her brows.

"You are my brother, Alen. Are you seriously thanking me when you guys are in this situation because of me? I should’ve done a better job of checking all the vehicles we were supposed to use. Because of me, Daniel is in this condition. If something had happened to him—" Sylvia let her walls crumble for a brief second.

Alen looked at his boss before he remembered something.

"Right. This project was supposed to make an influence on the Macros’ family and let everyone know we were back in the game. It was also supposed to be a slap to Daniel’s father, who always took his stepson’s side," Alen said.

Sylvia looked at her brother with pursed lips.

"So you mean we—"

She couldn’t complete her sentence when Alen nodded.

"Yes. Release the news of the collaboration. We can’t let our enemies know they won when they attacked us. This will give them confidence to attack again. We can’t afford it until the boss is back and healthy," Alen said.

Sylvia nodded.

"Okay. I’ll immediately arrange for the necessary. You should rest. Don’t overwork yourself right after you wake up. This will affect your recovery," Sylvia said before she nodded at the doctor, who immediately got back to his work.

She stepped out of the room, her gaze lingering on Daniel, the man she had feelings for ever since she was a kid.

All she could hope for was for him to wake up and get back on his feet as soon as possible.

As she walked into the corridor, she suddenly remembered her subordinate had mentioned a call from a woman.

She turned to go inside the room to ask Alen if it was someone important, but seeing her brother fall asleep again, she sighed.

She will just ask him later. If it were someone important, her brother had mentioned it.

With that thought, she left the hospital.

Their base was situated half an hour away from the hospital.

Sylvia quickly ordered her subordinate to ask everyone to gather so she could share the good news that at least Alen was awake.

They had gone to meet the Italian Mob about security and defense. It was one of the decade’s biggest collaborations.

Their boss, Daniel’s father, had been eyeing it too, just so he could give it all on a golden plate to his stepson, who always acted illegally, was corrupt, and was money-minded.

To him, money was always more important than the Macros’ identity and name. And for his father, that stepson was important.

The deal went well, but who would’ve thought another force was moving against them?

While they were busy meeting, someone either planted the bombs under their car or had them planted from the very beginning.

It was her fault for not checking twice before their boss got in there. After all, she handled the security and business deals in this area.

As soon as they entered the highway, their boss felt something was off. That was the last thing he said over the intercom, since they were talking about their next move during a conference call.

Their boss presumably jumped from the moving car, and it would’ve saved his life with few wounds if the car moving behind them hadn’t had the explosive too.

Daniel, Alen, and Kael all jumped, but the car moving behind them exploded at the same time, just near them, and they were thrown away from the impact.

When Alen and Kael jumped, they moved to the left side of the highway and were hurt less in comparison to their boss, who moved to the right side and fell into a ditch.

The more Sylvia thought about it, the more she cursed herself for not taking care of such important things. Their boss’s life was the most important to them.

How could she be so stupid?

From that day, she has been going to church and praying for their well-being, something she never did even when her parents were in the hospital after they were shot.

As soon as Sylvia reached the base, she asked the technical staff to create an article and release the news on their end.

Since many enemies were always lurking around, hoping to strike their boss, they never released any news about the attack, which would just announce to whoever dared to plan such a cowardly move that they were back and ready for revenge.

Sylvia walked inside Daniel’s room in the base and looked at everything around before lying on the bed, trying to inhale his scent. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"I am sorry, Daniel. It’s all my fault. If possible, I would like to pay for this debt with my life. But just get better first, please." Sylvia curled into a ball before she let her tears fall on the bedsheet for the first time since the incident happened.

She was happy Alen had woken up because he was her brother, but she wouldn’t be wrong if she said she had wanted Daniel to wake up first.

Sylvia’s gaze moved to his suitcase in the corner of the room, and she was about to walk to it when her subordinate knocked on the door.

She quickly wiped her tears and cleared her throat before walking to the door.

"Yes?" She asked, her expression neutral.

"Ma’am, the article is ready. Which photo should we post?" The man asked.

Sylvia looked at the couple of photos taken and then pointed to a particular one.

"This will let everyone know who is working under the boss in their region," Sylvia said.

The man nodded.

"We were thinking about the same. We’ll immediately release it," he said before leaving.

Sylvia hummed and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
