The Ex-Wife's Revenge: Rise of the Real Heiress.-Chapter 182: An anonymous attack
"So? Are you going to let Andrew get engaged with Beatrice just like that?" Antonio asked when he saw her getting inside the car after the shoot.
It had been 20 days since they found out about the news, and in 3 days, Andrew’s engagement was supposed to take place.
In the past twenty days, the man had tried to reach out to her and tell her the truth, or how helpless he was, but Elara knew not to fall for those crocodile tears.
Besides, this event wasn’t even the most important thing she was worrying about.
She was worried about why Daniel had stopped messaging her from either of his numbers, and no matter how many times she called, it went unanswered.
She had Alen’s number, but for some reason, he wasn’t picking up either.
Something told her that something was happening around Daniel that she didn’t know about and that she should know.
"What do you really want me to do about it?" Elara asked, arching her brows as the car moved, and her gaze fell on the large billboard with a poster for their drama.
Eight episodes of their drama were released two days ago, and to say they received a lot of appreciation for their acting and the way they did justice to the webcomic would be an understatement.
Her popularity grew tenfold. The big names in the music industry greatly perceived her songs.
Antonio looked at the girl through the rearview mirror with arched brows.
"I mean, it’s not that I want you to do something particular. It’s just...I thought you would at least do something to ruin their happiness. They did that to yours," Antonio said.
Elara smiled before shaking her head.
"Do you think I am that kind of person who would be so petty?" Elara asked her bodyguard, who pressed his lips into a thin line for some time before nodding.
Elara pursed her lips before sighing.
"As disappointing as your words sound, I am afraid you are right. There is no way I would let their engagement end in peace," Elara smiled.
She had no intention of ruining the engagement. She just wanted to make a mockery of the two once they exchanged rings.
Elara smiled as she looked out, thinking about her plan.
The call from Justin last night was something that she couldn’t get out of her head, no matter how hard she thought about it.
If there was even as much as one percent reality to what she heard, the truth was going to blow the minds of the entire social circle and ruin the Lloyds from head to toe.
And it had nothing to do with her.
Elara smiled at the thought of exposing the most brutal truth of the Lloyd family.
"So, I take it you’ll be attending the party?" Antonio asked.
Elara supported her face on her hand as she looked at Antonio.
"You are awfully interested in my next move. Tell me, what’s cooking here?" Elara asked.
Antonio scratched his head boyishly before chuckling.
"Don’t blame me. Xylon put me to it," Antonio said, and Elara rolled her eyes.
"I knew something was fishy when you repeated your question," Elara said, and was about to speak more when her phone vibrated with an incoming message.
Her eyes lit up when she saw Daniel’s second number.
"Oh, girl, you are mine. Let me cross all the boundaries with you." The message said.
Elara raised her brows at the weird message.
So the man had the nerve to disappear on her for 20 days, and now he’s remembering sending a lovely message out of nowhere?
"What the hell is this supposed to mean? Tell me what’s going on. Where are you? Why won’t you call? What’s really going on? Besides, there are only two days left until your business trip, as you had mentioned. When are you coming back?" Elara typed quickly.
She patiently waited for a reply, hoping to see him sooner.
"Soon," The reply came after what felt like an eternity.
Elara looked at the single word a few times, as if looking at it repetitively would suddenly explain to her what was going through this man’s head.
When no other message came, she typed in another message.
"Can you at least tell me if you are okay?" She asked and hit the send button, but just like all the other messages the last few days, it didn’t get delivered
She tried to call the number, but it was switched off, and she sighed.
"Something bothering you?" Antonio asked.
Elara smiled at him briefly before shaking her head.
"What do you think I should choose, Antonio? Something that makes me happy or something that is my true calling, something I should do for real?" Elara asked.
Antonio thought about her words for some time.
"Don’t you think the right thing is supposed to make you happy in the long run if it’s right? Imagine both the things, and imagine yourself five years later with the same decision. The one that makes you happy for real, choose that one," Antonio said.
Elara looked at the back of the man’s head and smiled.
"Antonio,"
"Yes, Miss Elara," Elara asked.
"Don’t give this advice to a psycho like me again. Because if I go by your words, I’ll end up shooting all my tormentors with the very gun in your dashboard, and yes, I’ll be pleased in five years," Elara said.
Antonio looked at the girl’s chilling smile through the rearview mirror before nodding his head.
"Very well, Ma’am. I understand," he didn’t say anything for the rest of the ride, and Elara sighed.
"Drop me at Justin’s place," Elara said after some time.
Antonio nodded and took her there.
Once Elara reached there, she was about to step out of the car when she saw a car stop at some distance from them.
Antonio turned around to look at Elara to see why she wasn’t getting out, but when he saw her gaze trained on the reflection, he followed it.
His brows furrowed before his pupils dilated.
"Duck!" Antonio said.
Elara immediately got down, covering her head with her hands, hiding her face between her legs, and the sound of the glass shattering echoed around her.
Elara’s heart skipped a beat at the sudden, unexpected attack before it started drumming against her chest. The shards that fell on her back made her skin ache.
Some shards got into her skin, and she could literally see a few blood drops falling to her left.
Antonio quickly got out of the car, pointing the gun at the vehicle.
"Go. Go. Go."
She could hear her attackers shout before the sound of the tires screeching on the road echoed, followed by an eerie silence.
Elara did not move from her place for some time. She replayed the entire scenario in her head.
The look on the man who was sitting in the front seat was something she couldn’t take lightly.
They weren’t here to kill her. She knew that. After all, if that were their intention, they wouldn’t have waited for them to stop or appear in the CCTV zone when they had the entire highway to themselves.
They were here to warn her. But for what? And who?
"Miss Elara, are you okay?" Antonio opened the door gently before he pulled out his handkerchief and brushed the glass shards from her back.
Usually, his boss was quick to act and think straight, no matter the situation, but seeing her sitting there, motionless, made his heart ache for her.
She was human after all. It must’ve scared her, especially when she was becoming a star and couldn’t bear to have scars.
"I... I am fine," Elara said, gaining her composure, her hand going to the dagger around her waist.
She got out of the car and looked around, her gaze noticing all the cameras around.
"I will go to Justin’s place. You should go and have some rest," Elara said.
Antonio raised his brows.
"Are you for real? You just got attacked. I am your bodyguard, not your manager. There’s no way I am leaving you alone. You even got hurt," Antonio said stubbornly.
Elara smiled at the man.
"Don’t worry about it. Justin is here with me. Besides, trust me. These men just wanted to warn me. And regarding why they wanted to do that, we will find out soon," Elara said.
Antonio opened his mouth to rebuke, but, seeing her so persistent, he sighed and nodded, not before telling her he would inform George and bring a new car tomorrow to pick her up.
Elara nodded in appreciation before she walked into the apartment, knowing all too well that the man wouldn’t leave until she got inside safely.
Once Elara got inside the apartment and waved her hand from up above, Antonio sighed in relief and turned to leave.
As soon as he turned, the smile on his face vanished completely. He pulled out his phone and made a call.
"Something bad happened, sir," Antonio said on the call.
