The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love-Chapter 428: Where you truly belong (2)
’Ha-Happy Birthday U-Uncle Cheng...!’
A young Bojing had gone to Cheng, offering a flower as his gift.
’I picked this fl-flower for you!’
’Aww Bojing is so cuteeee!’ Yang Bingqing squealed. ’Happy Birthday, dear.’
She tiptoed and kissed his cheek.
The trio felt Yang Cheng’s momentarily confused looks.
’Why are you looking like that?’
’Dad is still sleepy, Mom. It’s freaking four in the morning. Didn’t you get some other time to surprise him?’ A teen Mingshen grimaced with a yawn.
’W-Well it’s just now that I completed my decorations!’ She mumbled guiltily.
Yang Cheng stared at Bojing’s birthday gift and slowly took his flower from him.
’What day is it today...?’
Yang Bingqing chuckled. ’Did you forget it’s your birthday today?’
He stared at her for a long moment after which his lips formed a small O.
’Oh. Yes...It’s my birthday today.’
Mingshen raised a lazy brow. ’Dad, is your memory starting to fail you? You always look so confused on this day. Oh, before you completely lose your mind, can you sign everything on my name?’
That earned him a vicious smack on top of his head from his mother.
’I’ll bury you deep underground before that happens!’
He shrugged.
’D-Do you like th-the flower, U-Uncle...?’ Bojing nervously asked.
Yang Cheng stared at the flower in his hand. ’Hm. It’s beautiful.’
Little Bojing’s face shone with delight.
Yang Bingqing chirped. ’So let’s cut the cake!’
’At four in the morning?’ Mingshen clearly wasn’t happy with the prospect of eating cake early in the morning.
’It’s the feelings that matter!’ She glared.
’Which is going to cause an upset stomach later on.’
’Shut up.’
At present, Mingshen looked straight into Shi Ningkai’s gaze, but a distinct memory surfaced in his mind as he thought about the past.
Yang Cheng was a sharp and meticulous man. He never forgot things, which he said was a very important attribute of being a doctor. You cannot afford to miss anything when treating a patient that could potentially come to bite you in your back.
Which was why Mingshen always found it odd that Yang Cheng forgot his birthdays. But he only attributed it to the fact that Yang Cheng simply wasn’t interested in events as such. He would gladly remember when he inserted a stent in somebody’s heart rather than remember his own birthday.
But now as he watched his father stand in silence, he realized that wasn’t the case at all.
It wasn’t that Yang Cheng forgot his birthday.
It simply meant that it wasn’t Xie Zi Han’s birthday.
That was why Yang Cheng always felt momentarily disoriented because he hadn’t gotten used to being wished on the date that personally meant nothing for him.
And then there was William Johnson, the teacher at the medical university in London under whom his father and Xie Zi Han had studied.
Mingshen blinked. "Dad? Have you taught XX university of medicine? Wait...are you William Johnson?"
"So he did talk about me."
"At passing sometimes. He never talked much about his uni days."
"I can see that. Xie was a very quiet man. Is he still like that now?"
"You mean Yang. Yang Cheng."
"How in the world was Yang Cheng a quiet man? He was quite the opposite in fact. But somehow Xie and Yang survived as each other’s roommates."
"Opposite? You mean my father was a lively person? That’s not true."
"Of course, Xie wasn’t anything like that. He was the apple of every teacher’s eye. Very studious and sincere. But Yang on the other hand, always failing and fooling around with his grades. I wonder why Xie couldn’t be a positive influence on him."
Mulan chuckled. "You are mixing them up again, Sir William."
"Mixing who?"
She offered her hand for a handshake. "Xie Mulan. Xie Zi Han’s daughter."
His eyes slightly widened. "Oh my. So you are Xie’s daughter."
"Yes."
"So you are siblings. Who is the older one?"
Mulan choked. "We-we are not siblings, Sir William. I am Xie Zi Han’s daughter. He is Yang Cheng’s son, Yang Mingshen."
"Yang’s son? That’s not possible. He looks exactly like Xie."
The entire conversation replayed in Mingshen’s mind like a record. William Johnson had Alzheimer’s, so it was easy to misunderstand that he had gotten confused between his students. But he hadn’t. He took Mingshen to be Xie Zi Han’s son because he knew who Xie Zi Han was.
Yang Bingqing turned and slowly alternated her gaze between her husband and her right hand man.
Exchanged identities...?
She didn’t know when this happened but like Mingshen, a lot of things suddenly fell in place for her.
Like why Yang Cheng generally disregarded party invitations. It was her assumption that he was an introvert and hence didn’t like attending social gatherings. While that could still be true, she now understood his source of concern.
He held ’Yang Cheng’s’ name. The Yangs weren’t any small family whom one could disguise as and just live freely. There always posed a risk.
What if somebody figured it out?
What if somebody recognized Yang Cheng as fake Yang Cheng?
It was the same reason why Xie Zi Han refused to come to parties, especially where Yang Cheng was present too. That was like a bomb ready to explode. For two people who had exchanged their identities to stand under the same roof and something untoward to happen was just a recipe of disaster.
"What happened, Boss?" Shi Ningkai laughed. "How does it feel to know that your husband and right hand man fooled you? You married a man who wasn’t a Yang to begin with! He hid his real identity from everyone, he used the Yang family’s name and became a doctor using the Yang family’s resources and has been enjoying the luxury that never belonged to him in the first place!"
"Shut the hell up, Ningkai!" Xie Zi Han’s temper was beyond the roof.
"Why scream at me, Xie?" He laughed. "I’m not the only one who feels this way. How about you ask your dear daughter?"
