Lou Sha was the first to jump out and stood below, waiting for Tianmiao to descend. Then, the two walked side by side behind the person who had urged them off the carriage.
In front of them stood an enormous castle, its black stones emitting a ghostly glow in the evening light, giving an uneasy feeling.
The person leading them was an aged maid, whose face was harsh, her narrow eyes full of impatience.
"Hurry up and follow!" The maid’s voice was slightly hoarse, urging loudly.
Once inside the castle, the maid led them through a long hallway to a spacious room, where eight beds were neatly arranged, each with a clean set of pajamas.
"Eat first, then bathe, and have a good sleep. The Duke will not mistreat you, so do your best." The maid said mechanically.
Dinner was very sumptuous, at least to those beyond Lou Sha and Tianmiao; this meal was extremely lavish. Soft white bread, vegetables, smoked meat, sausages, and even a piece of pudding.
After eating, they were taken to bathe, then led back to the room to change into pajamas and sleep, with instructions not to wander around at night.
