The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s-Chapter 130 - 108
Chapter 130: 108
Mr. Mo reminisced about the past, quickly came back to his senses, and called other people in the house over to introduce them to Lan Tian, "These are your Grandpa Lin and Granny Lin, Grandpa Lin handles all the trivial matters at home, and Granny Lin takes care of food and clothing; those four are their sons and daughters-in-law, helping Grandpa Lin with things at home, and these three young ones are their grandsons, working at the Modu Hospital."
Lan Tian smiled lightly, nodding to several people and greeted, "Hello Grandpa Lin, Granny Lin," then exchanged pleasantries with a few uncles and aunts, and Lan Tian gave Granny Lin’s grandsons a gentle smile with pursed lips.
Everyone also responded with their greetings one by one.
"Such a well-behaved young lady!" Both Grandpa Lin and Granny Lin praised Lan Tian for being sensible and clever, "Mr. Mo, it must be the good feng shui of Mo Village that nurtures such delightful girls, look at her fair and tender skin, not many girls in the city can compare."
Mr. Mo laughed heartily and nodded, unashamedly accepting their compliments about Lan Tian.
"This is my granddaughter, who has found her relatives at her ancestral home this time, and she will also be the owner of this house in the future," pointing to Mo Junhua, "This is my granddaughter’s husband, Comrade Mo Junhua. I gathered everyone here today so you can recognize each other, to avoid any embarrassment of not recognizing the son-in-law and refusing him entrance in the future, which would be laughable."
Everyone laughed again at this statement; Mo Mansion indeed isn’t a place just anyone could enter, not recognizing the son-in-law would indeed mean not letting him in.
"Secondly, all of you are working now and seldom come back home. Take this opportunity to gather and have a reunion meal."
"Sister-in-law Lin, make a few more delicious dishes tonight..." The sky outside was already approaching dusk, with layers of sunset clouds tumbling across the horizon, and the sun slowly sinking down, the tired birds returning to their nests, it was indeed time to prepare dinner.
Mr. Mo, looking at a few sacks in the hall, instructed Granny Lin, "Our home’s vegetables are just finished, the girl must have brought some, take them in and stir-fry. After eating outside for so many years, the vegetables grown at home still taste the best!"
Lan Tian pouted, what home-grown vegetables, those were the Spiritual Vegetables she grew.
"Grandpa, these two sacks are vegetables Grandma brought for you, that sack is dried goods from the mountains, and the other two sacks are specialty products from our land." After Lan Tian explained, Granny Lin took the two sacks of vegetables to the kitchen, where there was a big refrigerator to store the vegetables.
Mo Junhua and Wu Zongyu were just background figures, besides the initial few words Mr. Mo had with Mo Junhua, the two just listened to the grandfather and granddaughter’s conversation about matters related to Mo Village and Mo Yuanle.
"...Sitting on the train for such a long time must be tiring! The room has been cleaned up, I’ll have Lin Laoer’s wife show you to your room to rest, the meal will be ready in a while, we’ll call you then." After some conversation, Mr. Mo was also tired and finally agreed to let them go, calling Second Son’s wife to lead Lan Tian and the others to their room.
Lin Laoer’s wife was very cheerful, describing the layout of the courtyard house in detail along the way.
Mr. Mo’s courtyard house was a two-section compound; entering the gate led to a corridor, which ran along the wall in twists and turns leading inside to the main hall. In front of the corridor was a courtyard; passing through the courtyard led to the main hall, with one side being the living hall and the other the kitchen, the second floor housed Mr. Mo’s medical room and the teahouse.
To the left of the corridor, a door led to the rear wing rooms; to the east, lived Mr. Mo and the second youngest master (Wu Zongyu), while Lan Tian and Mo Junhua stayed in the southeast wing room. Lin Laoer and his family lived in the north wing room, the west wing room was temporarily empty as there weren’t so many people in the house, it was left vacant until the elder master returned during the New Year.
Lin Laoer’s wife escorted Lan Tian and Mo Junhua to their room, Lan Tian thanked her, "Thanks for the trouble, Second Aunt."
"Not at all, this is what I should do. Miss, if you need anything, just call out. I live over there in the garden, I can hear you," Lin Laoer’s wife pointed at the house diagonally opposite and told Lan Tian; Lan Tian glanced towards that wing room and nodded.
"Miss, you must be tired from traveling all day; take a bath and rest first. I will come to call you when dinner is ready." Leading Lan Tian into the room, showing the bedroom and then the bathroom, which was equipped with a water heater, she explained how to use everything in there and then left.
"Take care, Second Aunt."
Lan Tian thanked her at the door, sending Lin Second Son’s wife away, turned back to close the door, and noticed no one else was inside, but heard some noise from the bathroom next door and went to see. Mo Junhua was in the bathroom preparing the bathwater for Lan Tian, adjusting it before pouring it into the adjacent bathtub.
"The water’s ready, you go wash first. I’ve brought your clothes over, they’re in the basket hanging nearby." She then walked out, with Lan Tian’s gaze following him until he left, only then did she go to take a shower.
Mo Junhua bathed and washed their clothes too, hanging them on the balcony outside the bathroom. When he came out, he found Lan Tian had crashed on the bed, asleep.
He hadn’t slept all night on the train, busy attending to Lan Tian. Seeing Lan Tian’s sweet sleeping face, sleepiness rapidly overcame him. He got into bed, holding Lan Tian close and pulled another blanket over them, wrapping it around both. Lan Tian snuggled into Mo Junhua’s arms, finding a more comfortable position.
In the front hall earlier, after sending off Lan Tian, Mr. Mo’s expression was solemn, his fingers lightly tapping on the table, deep in thought. Wu Zongyu sat next to Mr. Mo, quietly sipping tea, scrutinizing Mr. Mo’s expression through his teacup.
"Xiao Yu, why would your dad suddenly call and ask me to go back to Beijing?" His granddaughter had just arrived, and he had no desire to go anywhere, only wanting to stay with her.
Wu Zongyu put down his teacup and said, "I heard from your little junior sister that a special patient arrived at home. My dad saw him but wasn’t confident to treat him because if anything went wrong, it would ruin your reputation, Mr. Mo. That’s why my dad called, hoping you would come over." His dad indeed had no other options, he couldn’t treat the patient. In fact, that special patient came specifically for Mr. Mo, and his dad didn’t dare to make a conclusion.
"She just got here and I have to leave, she... sigh!" Mr. Mo didn’t finish his sentence, but Wu Zongyu understood that he was worried Lan Tian might blame him.
Wu Zongyu didn’t expect Mr. Mo to have a day filled with confused worry and loss.
"She’s not that kind of person." Seeing Mr. Mo downhearted, Wu Zongyu teased him, "Oh come on, who was it that said ’no jade can be polished without cutting’, when you used to lecture me and my elder brother with such harshness, tsk tsk, the treatment you’re giving now is quite different."
Mr. Mo playfully smacked him and cursed with a laugh, "How can that be the same? You are a boy, tough-skinned and tough-fleshed, what’s wrong with scolding? The girl is a delicate young lady, of course, she needs to be pampered. Raising sons in poverty and daughters in wealth, what do you understand, go away, go away, you’re annoying to look at."
"Yes, yes, you’re annoyed by me, so I’ll go," Wu Zongyu shrugged with his hands spread, lacking his usual dignified demeanor of a noble young master outside.
Around seven o’clock, Lan Tian and her husband woke up. After washing up, Lin Laoer’s wife came to invite them to the front hall for a meal. They tidied up casually and went to the front hall.
When Lan Tian and Mo Junhua entered, Mr. Mo and Wu Zongyu were already there. All the men from Grandpa Lin’s family were present, Granny Lin and Eldest Son Lin’s wife were in the kitchen. Mr. Mo called them over to sit down and eat.
Lin Laoer’s wife led Lan Tian into the hall and then went to help in the kitchen.
"Mom, let me help."
Granny Lin was busy serving the dishes, transferring the food from the pot to the plates, then turned to look at the second son’s wife, "Did Miss and the son-in-law arrive?"
"They’re here, talking with Mr. Mo in the hall." Lin Laoer’s wife took the spatula from her mother-in-law, rolled up her sleeves, prepared to cook, while Eldest Son’s wife brought her chopped vegetables.
"Just one dish left. Let Lin Laoer’s wife cook, Eldest Son’s wife and I will serve the dishes."
After the Lin family’s mother-in-law and daughter-in-law served the dishes, Lin Laoer’s wife finished cooking the greens, plated them and brought them out, then sat down to start the meal. Mr. Mo did not have the habit of not speaking during meals; during this family meal, they talked while they ate.
The women drank soda, while all the men drank wine. As a son-in-law, Mo Junhua couldn’t escape from drinking. All the men in the house, except for Mr. Mo who had served in the military, had never been soldiers. Having a few drinks, the younger men started to build rapport, curiously asking all sorts of questions.
"... Is the military tough? I heard it’s training every day, pushing people to their limits? I originally wanted to join the military, but my mom firmly disagreed, sigh, it’s a regret, I envy you, brother!" Lin Guohao seemed drunken, this wasn’t something he’d normally dare to say. If his mother heard this, it would surely lead to tears, tantrums, and threats of suicide.
"Being a doctor isn’t bad either!" Mo Junhua patted his shoulder, conveying more with silence.
Lin Guohao, bleary-eyed, lifted his cup and downed the wine in one go, then turned the cup upside-down to show him, somewhat defiantly.
