The Chef Rules the Last Days-Chapter 470 - 468: Beast Tide
Chapter 470: Chapter 468: Beast Tide
The car stayed put, leaving behind two superpower users to guard it while the rest followed Lu Chen towards the World Trade Center at the back.
A Gold Element Superpower User raised a golden shield above their head, but it was only for their own cover. Lu Chen saw that many people might get injured due to not dodging in time. Activating his Ice Ability, his phoenix eyes almost emitted visible cold air.
A huge circular concave Ice Shield formed above them, controlled by him to firmly hover overhead like a mini dome.
The transformation and power of a Level 6 superpower were recognized by everyone. Their looks towards Lu Chen were filled with respect for the strong.
Su Mo looked up at the Ice Shield overhead and then at Lu Chen’s expressionless face. Previously, such a significant usage of energy would not have allowed him to last a few seconds, but now he remained unfazed.
She drew closer to him and curiously asked, "How long can you sustain it now? Just this small dome."
"Ten minutes," hearing her question, the man’s expression softened and he continued to walk without stopping, rubbing the top of her head.
Pieces continuously fell from a height onto the icy surface, but the substantial impact force did not cause any visible damage to the energy-infused ice.
"So, if I continuously recharge your superpower, could it last even longer?"
"Indeed," he replied.
Su Mo was somewhat amazed. "If it undergoes a qualitative change with the increase in level, is there a possibility of encompassing the entire refugee camp to form a natural barrier?"
That would be an immense amount of energy. For now, her guesses seemed a bit far-fetched.
Lu Chen gave a faint smile. "Another qualitative change, and I might need a few years. As for the barrier you mentioned, collaborating with multiple people could be feasible, but no one has tried it yet."
Superpower users at Level 6 were extremely rare nowadays, much like Su Mo who had reached Level 5; their numbers were pitifully small.
They had traveled through many places, and they knew this all too well.
Su Mo was not disappointed and even felt a subtle sense of anticipation. "If a barrier could be formed and there really were Mutant Beast invasions, paired with my Jasmine Tea, that would be something great."
Lu Chen did not continue her talk and let the young girl imagine.
They had reached the entrance of the World Trade Center, where the massive door was deformed by being squeezed. Several beams had broken and lay in front of the door, appearing extremely precarious.
"This looks like it was intentionally cut and placed here to block the way," Su Mo said, not hurrying inside but instead focusing her gaze on the broken beams.
"That half of the building could have bent and deformed some structures, but it definitely did not damage the load-bearing structure. The beams on this door shouldn’t be this fragile and only on one floor; they could have been deformed at most. It must be a few people’s precaution to prevent zombies from entering," Jin Han analyzed the situation quickly.
"Since it won’t collapse, then I shall clear it," Jianxiong rolled up his sleeves, revealing muscular arms, and easily picked up a beam as thick as a person and moved it aside.
Soon, the squeezed and deformed entrance was visible.
Inside was pitch-black, with dust flying everywhere in the daylight, causing a severe itching sensation when inhaled.
Su Mo rubbed her nose and bent down to walk in first, following by swiftly running footsteps beside her. Without turning her head, her figure quickly disappeared from the spot. In one stride, she was behind the zombie, her fingers turned into claws gripping its neck, and with a strong pinch, there was the sound of bones crushing.
After digging out the Crystal Stone, she casually tossed the corpse aside, a playful tone in her voice, "These people are quite vigilant, even knowing to leave a few zombies for a surprise attack."
Lu Chen bent over as he entered, stepping over the zombies on the ground, "Don’t leave my sight."
"Got it," she scampered back, following behind him with a pleasing smile.
The man glanced back helplessly as he stepped onto the stairs.
Their entry, though not exactly inconspicuous, was noticed by several people on the fourth floor.
"You search below the fourth floor for anything useful and keep it, Space Superpower Users follow me," Jin Han instructed his team as he followed Lu Chen and three others up the stairs while the rest began their search elsewhere.
On the fourth floor, by the staircase leading to Food City, four people were lying in ambush.
Lu Chen didn’t panic. He directly exerted Level 6 pressure, and the opponents didn’t even have the chance to react as Su Mo heard several cries of pain simultaneous.
Stepping onto the fourth-floor platform, Lu Chen stopped in front of a fully armed man kneeling with a gun, "Helicopter survivor?"
The question from above made the man shudder, but soon the terrifying pressure vanished, and he was able to lift his head, eyes full of caution, "There’s still food here, you can take it, we just want to survive."
Not receiving a direct answer to his question, Lu Chen wasn’t annoyed but simply gave Jin Han a look, signaling him to hurry and gather the food inside.
Su Mo looked around at the people gasping on the floor, three men and a woman, two of them superpower users.
After a brief survey, she returned her gaze to the man who had spoken, "We mean no harm, just like you, we’re just here for some supplies."
Her harmless, cute appearance made the man lower his guard slightly, though he was still somewhat fearful of Lu Chen. He struggled to stand, leaning on the ground, the woman beside helping him, clearly injured.
"We’ve already packed the food, you can take whatever else you want."
Having said that, the four supported each other and started walking downstairs.
Lu Chen turned, looking down at the four’s retreating figures, hands in his pockets as he asked coldly, "Did you come from the east? We saw the helicopter hit the building."
Speaking of the east, all four shuddered, their facial muscles twitching.
"Indeed, you might not believe this," as if knowing what they were about to ask, the injured man turned around, his expression dim, "We had a survival camp under a mountain range in the east, but it was recently overrun by a Beast Tide, and only I survived the helicopter crash, the rest are all dead."
"We saw it too!" the woman beside him exclaimed, half-turning and gesticulating with her hand, "It was like a giant wave surging up from the ground, and as far as the eye could see, it was packed with Mutant Beasts!"
This was something Su Mo had already known. Hearing it from their mouths was just a verbal confirmation.
Falling behind and treated merely as a tool, Jianxiong curiously asked, "So only one survived the helicopter crash, where did you three pop up from?"
"We three have been living in that high-rise, surviving on vending machines and snacks from the desks until his helicopter crashed into us, forcing us out," the woman explained quite clearly.
