The Cheeky Junior Gal Becomes Too Cute When She Gets Attached to Me-Chapter 0Volume 1 .1 - Prologue
Prologue
The morning of a Student Council President begins with picking up trash.
I, Tsujidou Masachika, have only recently become the Student Council President at the end of October in my second year of high school. I was elected by default since no one else ran for the position.
It was almost as if the role was being pushed onto someone unwillingly.
Being the Student Council President is like drawing the short straw—a position that takes up time without any real benefits.
That’s how the students see it, and after about a week in the position, I can deeply relate to that sentiment.
I already knew what it entailed since I was the Vice President before.
Of course, I didn’t take on this role because I had some noble desire to improve the school.
It was all for the sake of boosting my internal assessment points to secure a good university recommendation.
Picking up trash like this is part of that effort. It never hurts to raise your favorability with the teachers.
“There’s way too much garbage…”
Clacking the tongs together, I make my rounds within the school grounds.
Since it’s just for gaining teachers favorability, I’ve decided to spend no more than ten minutes on it.
I plan to pick up trash at random and then head back.
“Hmm? That’s…”
A little ahead, I spot something unusual on an old desk that’s been left out to be discarded in a corner behind the school building.
—A pack of cigarettes.
Even from a distance, its distinctive shape is clearly visible.
It’s a white box that seems out of place in a school setting.
“Seriously, which idiot did this? At least hide it properly if you’re going to smoke.”
Underage smoking is obviously not allowed here. But I’m not so free that I’d go out of my way to meddle in someone else’s business.
Still, they should stop doing it at school. It’s a hassle for me as the Student Council President.
“Guess I’ll have to cover this up…”
Since I’m already picking up trash, stuffing it into the bag shouldn’t raise any suspicions.
Just as I’m about to approach it, I see a student walking from the opposite direction.
Perhaps because I’m behind a tree, she doesn’t seem to notice me.
Instead, her gaze is fixed on the desk.
What she’s looking at is… yes, the pack of cigarettes.
She stops abruptly and covers her mouth with her hand in surprise.
“Hey! What are you doing there!”
A man’s angry voice suddenly echoes, and the student’s shoulders flinch.
The figure that appears is the PE teacher and the student guidance counselor, Shirahata-Sensei.
He also serves as the advisor for the Judo club, making use of his large build.
Shirahata strides up to the student and then picks up the cigarettes from the desk.
“Is this yours?”
“No…”
“What do you mean no! You’re literally caught red-handed!”
“It’s not me! I just happened to see it lying there!”
“Don’t make excuses. It’s strange enough that you’re here at this early in the first place!”
Shirahata-Sensei seems to be completely convinced that the cigarettes are hers. Given the situation, it’s not unreasonable for him to come to that conclusion.
She appears to be trying to persuade him, but… it’s not resonating with Shirahata-Sensei.
“Hmph, dyeing your hair like you’re something special. People like you are quick to pick up smoking. I’ve always thought you’d end up doing something like this!”
“No, really, it’s not like that…”
“Do you think I’d believe the words of a delinquent like you? Suspension is certain, and you better be prepared for expulsion too.”
“No way!”
In the distance, the two of them are arguing back and forth.
Now that I can see her face clearly, I recognize who she is.
Ooba Monaka. A first-year female student.
She’s a junior I’ve never interacted with, but I know her name. She stands out, for better or for worse.
With her striking looks and flashy attire, Ooba is what you’d call a gyaru.
Unfortunately, I’m not privy to her social circles, but rumors of her being cute and beautiful are common enough to reach the conversations of second-year boys.
However, she is extremely disliked by a portion of the teachers.
“Come on! We’re going to the student guidance office!”
“No… Let go of me…”
Ooba is resisting as Shirahata-Sensei grabs her arm.
Possession of cigarettes caught red-handed… but it’s a false accusation. I know because I saw it with my own eyes.
That being said, I have no obligation to help her.
Compromising Shirahata’s impression of me would be a bad move if I want to fulfill my role as Student Council President and secure a good recommendation.
It would be foolish to sacrifice myself for a student with a history of misconduct, and moreover, someone I have no connection with.
The correct decision is to turn a blind eye and walk away.
That’s what my reason tells me.
But, well…
“Well, I am the Student Council President after all.”

Shirahata’s overbearing attitude is also annoying.
And I don’t particularly like the high school environment where teachers hold absolute power and a student’s life can be swayed by the whim of a teacher.
While I’m fully prepared to use that to my advantage, turning a blind eye to a student in trouble goes against my principles.
I tap my shoulder with the fire tongs and step forward in front of the two.
“Oh, that cigarette was there before Ooba arrived.”
“…Tsujidou, is that true?”
“Yes. I saw it with my own eyes. Ooba just happened to pass by. She didn’t even touch it.”
Shirahata-Sensei narrows his eyes at me.
“Is that so. If the Student Council President says so, then it must be true.”
“Yes. But I understand why Sensei might have misunderstood. I probably would have thought the same if I hadn’t seen it from the start. Thank you always for your efforts in maintaining the school’s discipline.”
Rather than just denying it, I made sure not to forget to save face for Shirahata-Sensei.
Sigh, I don’t want to look in the mirror right now. I must be making a pretty nauseating forced polite smile right now.
“Tsk, you got lucky, Ooba. Be thankful to Tsujidou.”
With that, Shirahata-Sensei released Ooba’s arm.
“I’ll dispose of this cigarette. I can’t leave it to a student even if it’s you, Tsujidou.”
“Yes, of course.”
Then Shirahata-Sensei left after putting the pack of cigarettes in his pocket.
He backed down pretty easily… Maybe it’s thanks to my usual behavior.
Though he verbally agreed, his eyes narrowed at me with annoyance.
Well, he probably felt like I interfered with dealing with a troublesome student.
“Um…”
“Ooba Monaka, be more careful next time. Do it at home if you’re going to smoke.”
“No, I don’t smoke! It was really just a coincidence…!”
“I know.”
At the very least, I knew that it wasn’t Ooba’s.
Realizing that she had been teased by me, Ooba pouted.
“It’s a joke. Learn from this and try to rethink and improve your behavior a little, okay?”
“…Okay.”
Ooba nodded surprisingly obediently and looked straight at me.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.”
It’s lame to make a big deal out of it like she owes me a favor, so I replied briefly and immediately left the scene.
