Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Time for a Good Show

Vera Xavier looked up at Shane Caldwell. Seeing his earnest expression, she thought he was being a bit of a lunatic and said flatly, "I don’t need anyone’s protection."

Shane Caldwell’s face instantly flushed crimson at her direct rejection. She, however, didn’t look at him again and switched into study mode.

After that incident where Master Nathan had scared her, Daisy Archer was still feeling a bit rattled. But because of it, she now hated Vera Xavier with a passion. She felt Vera was utterly insolent and didn’t know her place, showing her absolutely no respect!

Although she feared Master Nathan, she remained convinced that for a family of the Nathan Family’s high status, his decision to speak up for Vera Xavier was merely a passing fancy. There was no way Master Nathan would protect Vera forever.

So for the past two days, she had been plotting how to destroy Vera Xavier’s reputation, make her unmarriageable, and best of all, ruin her life completely! 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

She had already decided to wake up early this morning to spread rumors. She would say that Vera Xavier was shameless—that after failing to seduce her son, she started fooling around with other men. Because her character was so depraved, Wesley Kane refused to marry her.

In her eyes, the plan was nearly perfect. All she had to do was spend a bit of money to have people spread the word, and they could recover the dignity they’d lost at the high school.

Compared to a woman having an affair, a man being a womanizer was much more easily forgiven.

Just as she was about to find someone to carry out her plan, one of her gossipy friends ran in and said, "Wesley’s mom, what are you still doing here? Hurry to the police station and get Wesley out!"

Daisy Archer immediately flew into a rage. "My Wesley is an upstanding boy. How could he possibly be at the police station? Stop spouting nonsense!"

The woman asked urgently, "Was Wesley home last night?"

"Of course he was home! He’s in his room sleeping right now!" Daisy Archer said, though her voice lacked conviction.

Wesley Kane was her son, and she was well aware of the things he did. She just felt that since he was a man, a man could never be on the losing end of such matters.

She even felt that her son’s ability to coax so many pretty young girls into bed was a sign of his prowess! She had even been quite smug about it at one point.

The woman sighed in relief. "Oh, then everything’s fine."

"What happened?" Daisy Archer asked casually.

The woman smiled and said, "As long as Wesley was home, it’s nothing. It’s just that last night, the Municipal Public Security Bureau suddenly launched some kind of anti-vice campaign and raided a few of those hair salons on South Street. (In the nineties, many brothels were disguised as hair or foot massage parlors.) I heard someone who looked a lot like Wesley was there, so I came over to let you know."

Daisy Archer’s scalp tingled in an instant. She forced a smile and said, "Is that right? I’ve always said they should round up all those home-wrecking vixens over there, keep them from ruining people’s lives! I’ll go see what all the fuss is about!"

With that, she took off like a shot. But after less than a dozen steps, she rushed back, grabbed her purse, and was gone like the wind.

The woman watched her go, a little stunned. ’Didn’t she say Wesley was home? What’s she so panicked about?’

Although she and Daisy Archer were on good terms, she was completely baffled at that moment.

The woman soon found out what the panic was about, because that evening, the Crestfall News broadcasted footage of Wesley Kane’s arrest.
