The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 104: Not Giving Face
When Zachary Preston saw Vera Xavier pull out her school bag from over there, he frowned. "Why is your school bag here?"
Vera Xavier glanced toward the kitchen before softly recounting what had happened that day. Zachary Preston’s blood boiled as he listened. He turned to confront Rona Langdon but was pulled back by Vera. "Dad, it’s all in the past. Please don’t fight with Mom again. I don’t want you two arguing all day because of me."
Her maturity only served to highlight Rona Langdon’s unreasonable stubbornness. Zachary Preston felt even more guilty. He heaved a long sigh and said, "Vera, you’ve been wronged."
"It’s nothing," Vera Xavier said with a smile. "I believe Mom is all bark and no bite. My grades were truly terrible before, so it’s perfectly normal for her to be skeptical. Once my grades stabilize and I get into a decent university after the college entrance exams, I’m sure Mom will stop talking about making me go work in a factory."
Zachary Preston patted her on the head. "Then just focus on your studies."
Vera Xavier nodded. A knock sounded at the main door. She was closer and about to open it when she saw Cara Preston tear down from the third floor like a whirlwind and fling the door open. ’At that speed,’ Vera thought, ’she could go to the Olympics and absolutely smoke Logan Lewis to become the hurdles champion.’
The door opened. Nathaniel Nathan stood outside, holding a pile of supplements. Cara Preston said shyly, "Nathan, you’re here. Come on in." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Hearing Cara Preston’s cry of "Nathan" made Vera Xavier’s skin crawl. ’My god, could she be any more cringey!’
But Nathaniel Nathan didn’t even glance at Cara Preston. He walked right past her to stand before Vera Xavier and said, "These are for you. Get some nutrients in you. You’re really too thin right now."
Vera Xavier nodded and thanked him. Zachary Preston said with a smile, "I thought Nathan was just being polite earlier, I didn’t expect you to actually deliver them. Dinner’s almost ready. Why don’t you stay and eat with us before you go?"
Nathaniel Nathan did want to have dinner with Vera Xavier, but only if it were just the two of them. He really didn’t want to see Cara Preston and Rona Langdon; he was afraid he would lose his appetite. So, he politely refused, "Thank you for the kind offer, Mr. Preston, but I have some things to take care of at home. I should be going."
Zachary Preston knew that "things at home" was most likely an excuse, but since Nathaniel had put it that way, he couldn’t insist. He smiled and said, "Alright then. We’ll have a meal together next time."
Nathaniel Nathan nodded and deliberately walked around Cara Preston as he left.
Cara Preston had always considered herself delicate, pretty, gentle, and beautiful. She was convinced that as long as Nathaniel Nathan got close to her, he would inevitably fall for her. His behavior today was a real slap in the face.
She didn’t think the problem was her; rather, she was convinced Vera Xavier had used some underhanded trick to seduce Nathaniel Nathan first. She was filled with regret. ’If I had only known Nathaniel was coming to the Preston family home today, I would have rushed back earlier to make sure I was the first person he saw.’
As Nathaniel Nathan was leaving, Cara Preston couldn’t help but call out, "Nathan, come hang out whenever you’re free."
Vera Xavier felt another wave of disgust. Nathaniel Nathan, however, acted as if he hadn’t heard a word, ignoring her completely.
As Nathaniel Nathan left, Cara Preston stood at the door, staring blankly at his departing figure. Watching Cara from the side, a chill rose in Vera Xavier’s eyes. ’So, Cara Preston had already fallen for Nathaniel Nathan even back then!’
