Chapter 44: Chapter 44: You’re Just Willfully Degenerate

"Have you lost your mind from the fever?" Otherwise, how dare you speak to him like this?

Yelena Hughes bent slightly, her face like a peach blossom, unable to mask her fragility. Her straight arms propped up her trembling upper body, and Jasper Yale’s heart began to waver.

She didn’t care which parts of her body were exposed or which should be covered.

"Young Master," Yelena’s voice was hoarse from the warmth in the room, "do you think I’m despicable? Shameless, willingly fallen, those terms suit me perfectly."

Jasper felt a heavy blow to his heart; those were the words he had said to her before.

He avoided meeting her eyes, "Don’t you know what kind of person you are?"

"Of course I do," Yelena laughed self-deprecatingly, "so Young Master, don’t come again. When you sit here, I have to accompany you. Everyone thinks I’ve climbed up to a higher branch, they envy me, but in reality? This kind of blessing is something I cannot bear."

Both understood the truth of the matter, yet neither spoke of it.

Jasper’s eyes remained indifferent, "Are you kicking me out?"

"You’re the guest, I wouldn’t dare, just please leave a tip." Yelena emphasized this point, "because that little money is very important to me."

The man picked up the pack of cigarettes on the table, pulled one out, but then put it back. "Just stay put, no one will come asking you for money anymore."

So, was it because Henry Louis had been giving her medicine these days and then leaving, that she should be grateful?

Yelena inched closer, feigning ignorance, "Who would ask me for money, does Young Master know?"

Jasper held the cigarette pack, its cold platinum hardness chilling his palm. His gaze at her felt like mind reading, perceiving that she must have figured something out.

"In two more months, Heart Protection Peace will be listed."

Yelena felt all the thorns within her being plucked away by those words, two months? "Really?"

It meant she only had to endure for two more months.

Jasper lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth, "Then you won’t have to stay here anymore."

Nancy Alden’s anger should dissipate as well.

Yelena saw hope, like someone drowning about to sink but noticing a piece of driftwood floating above the water. Despite being a bit far, if she stretched out and tried hard enough, she could probably catch it.

A chill on her leg, Jasper lifted her cheongsam.

Yelena tried to stop him but was too late. Her knees were bruised, with probably more injuries elsewhere.

Jasper withdrew his hand, looking indifferent. Yelena covered her legs, regretting her earlier thought of using a feigned injury ploy on this man.

Thankfully, she retained some dignity. To Jasper, Nancy Alden’s single tear could outweigh all of Yelena’s scars. Why should Yelena expect compassion from Young Master Yale?

"I’m leaving."

As Yelena saw Jasper stand, she had to get up to see him out.

The man left the room, but Yelena did not follow. Her vision darkened, body weak and powerless. She leaned against the wall, slowly sliding down.

"Yelena Hughes?"

It seemed someone was calling her.

So tired, Yelena couldn’t keep her eyes open, but her shift wasn’t over yet...

Mount Arden Villa.

Aaron Payne spoke to Jasper with a questioning tone, "How did this girl become so haggard so quickly?"

"How should I know."

"Have you been pushing her too hard? Are you even human? Maybe I should check your pulse later to see if you have severe kidney deficiency."

Jasper’s face turned cold. If he weren’t relying on him to know Yelena’s condition, he’d sew his mouth shut.

"It’s not too serious, but her body is indeed too weak. Has anything happened to her lately?"

Jasper pressed his lips tightly, the woman on the bed beneath the quilt occupied so little space.

"Sleeping at two or three in the morning, maybe up again at five or six, does that count?"

Aaron looked at Yelena incredulously, "Is she attempting suicide?"

"What do we do now? Why hasn’t she woken up?"

"She’s exhausted, her body can’t take it. It’s just collapsed. I’ll give her a shot later," Aaron hesitated, "Does Nancy know you’re treating her like this?"

Jasper glanced at him from the corner of his eye, "It wasn’t me."

"Then who?"

"Can her body last two more months?"

To Aaron, Jasper was always unfathomable, and now he seemed more so, "What? You don’t care about her life?"

"This is Nancy’s decision."

Aaron’s mouth opened, glancing at Yelena with sympathy. "You’ve always sided with Nancy Alden, no matter right or wrong."

Isn’t this too scummy?

Is it fair to others? 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

A vulnerable spot in Jasper’s heart was pricked, "Why do you talk so much? I’m asking if it’s possible or not."

"Possible, possible, as long as she doesn’t die suddenly, you can mess around however you want."

Aaron left after giving Yelena a shot, Jasper walked to the bedside, gently lifting the quilt.

He couldn’t tolerate Yelena sleeping in that cheongsam. He stripped it away, revealing bruises and injuries on her pale skin, none of which were minor.

Jasper’s heart was hardened, yet... he still reached out to touch.

Yelena shivered, frowning, "It hurts."

It did hurt, but she never voiced it when the wounds rubbed against her tightly fitted cheongsam.

Jasper pulled the quilt up for her, "Sleep well."

Yelena was severely sleep-deprived; when she woke, the room was pitch black. She didn’t even know where she was.

She fumbled around until she finally turned on the light.

Recognizing the furnishings, Yelena realized only after getting out of bed that she was at the Mount Arden Villa she had visited before.

Jasper had changed her into a black shirt, loose and large on her, making her feel off as she walked. She lifted the hem.

Jasper had thought to put on some underwear for her, but it was his, too big and almost falling down.

Such a close-fitting object...

"Do you dislike it?" The man’s voice came from outside.

Yelena looked up to see Jasper in front of her, "Then take it off."

"I don’t mind."

What else could she say?

Jasper went to the window and pulled up the blinds, sunlight poured in, tearing a large piece of white light into the dark room.

Yelena squinted, "What time is it? Am I late for work?"

"You don’t need to go today, I called in for you."

She quickly wanted to find her phone, but her bag was not there, "I can’t take a day off, I’ll get a pay cut."

Yelena was about to walk out barefoot, the footsteps behind closed in, an arm reached out, wrapping tightly around her waist.

"I said you don’t need to go; you’re not going anywhere."
