Chapter 31: Chapter 31: This Money Is Too Dirty, She Doesn’t Want It

He reached out and pushed her away. If Yelena Hughes hadn’t grabbed the railing beside her, she would have fallen down.

Jasper Yale watched coldly, "You were so coy about getting into that bed with him before. Now that you’re not climbing onto it, you’re uncomfortable, aren’t you?"

Yelena Hughes endured the waves of piercing pain, "If it wasn’t for the medicine, do you think I’d be willing to sleep with you?"

"What?"

Her heart was numbed from being stabbed, "Since the decision is in Miss Alden’s hands now, I’ll just listen to her. That bed of yours is too noble for me to climb."

After Yelena Hughes finished speaking, she lifted her leg and prepared to go downstairs.

Jasper Yale gripped her shoulder, his face cold and solemn, but his words were entirely the opposite, "That’s not what you said when you were lost in passion beneath me."

Yelena Hughes shrugged her shoulder, "I was pretending, just wanted to make you feel good."

Jasper Yale’s expression completely changed, and Yelena Hughes straightened her back, walking step by step downstairs.

At the dining table, Josephine brought all the dishes, and Nancy Alden picked up the chopsticks beside her, "I’ll give you the medicine later, I understand your urgency to save your sister."

Yelena Hughes didn’t expect it to go so smoothly, but she felt an inexplicable unease. "Thank you, Miss Alden."

Jasper Yale pulled out a chair and glanced at the shoes on Yelena Hughes’ feet. He just glanced, not noticing they didn’t fit.

"Do you have the same pair of shoes?" he asked Nancy Alden beside him.

Miss Alden glanced over, feigning surprise, "They’re really identical."

Her little face frowned slightly, looking a bit displeased, "What a coincidence, you bought the same pair again?"

Upon hearing this, Yelena Hughes actually felt relieved, "I’ll take them off right now."

Nancy Alden didn’t plan to, "No need, keep them on, I’m not so petty."

While others ate, Yelena Hughes stood on the side, feeling uncomfortable, so she waited aside for a while.

Jasper Yale barely ate a few bites; there was still some company business to tend to, so after eating, he went upstairs.

Nancy Alden chewed slowly, eating for quite a while before she put down her chopsticks. "Josephine, go upstairs and bring the medicine down."

"Okay."

Yelena Hughes finally waited it out, and after Josephine handed the medicine to Nancy Alden, she beckoned Yelena Hughes to come over. "For you."

Yelena Hughes reached out, but instead of a box, it was a few pills cut out, just a day’s dosage.

"I heard you’re a girl at The Sovereign Club?"

The unease in Yelena Hughes’ heart intensified, "No."

"I think you have potential. Since you like going to those kinds of places, just go."

Yelena Hughes clenched her palm, "Go do what?"

"Be a girl there, accompany drinks, I’m sure you can handle it."

Yelena Hughes felt the aluminum foil containing the pills, piercing into her palm until it almost broke the skin, "I have my own job, I can’t do that kind of thing."

"Your main job is during the day, you can be a girl at night. If you agree, I’ll give you medicine every day; I’ll have someone deliver it to you."

Yelena Hughes’ face turned pale; no wonder Nancy Alden only gave her a day’s supply.

"You better work hard; if you slack off and earn too little, the next day’s medication won’t be available."

Yelena Hughes just stared at Nancy Alden, knowing that if she didn’t cooperate properly, Nancy Alden would definitely keep her word.

Begging here wouldn’t change reality.

"Are you hesitating?"

Yelena Hughes bolstered the last bit of her spirit, no need to hesitate, after what happened with Anne being taken to the hospital without anyone willing to treat her, Yelena Hughes had warned herself.

When it comes to medication, she can only compromise and bow down.

Even if it means trading life for life, so be it.

"I agree."

Nancy Alden clapped her hands happily, "Maybe you’ll meet some well-off guests who will take a liking to you, and you’ll ascend to the top."

In the Yale Family’s living room was a monumental crystal lamp, its light enveloped Yelena Hughes, slicing her into fragments.

"And you’d better not let Jasper Yale know that it’s I who sent you to The Sovereign Club."

When Yelena Hughes left, Nancy Alden told her to keep wearing the shoes on her feet.

Jasper Yale was on the balcony making a phone call, and downstairs, a figure was walking away. Yelena Hughes walked slowly, her back slightly hunched from the pain.

With no one around, she didn’t need to keep her back straight anymore.

Jasper Yale’s gaze was cold; with Yelena Hughes’ height, she didn’t need such high heels. Was she trying to irritate Nancy Alden with her pointless efforts?

But this woman seemed to awaken the long-dead feeling of empathy within Jasper Yale, bit by bit.

After walking out of The Summit Gardens, Yelena Hughes found an isolated place to take off her shoes.

Her heels were blistered and broken, skin and flesh sticking together, distressingly visible.

Pain, just pain and more pain.

...

Yelena Hughes had dealt with Chester at The Sovereign Club before, and upon hearing that she was coming, Chester naturally welcomed her warmly.

"I’ve always told you, with your face and figure, I would definitely make you the hottest girl."

Looking at this girl, her brows are like distant mountains, skin white as cream, yet her face is so sullen that the guests wouldn’t like it.

"What’s the matter, reluctant?"

"Chester, is it okay if I just accompany the drinks?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Yelena Hughes’ voice was taut, hiding the trembling in her tone.

"Of course, it is. This isn’t a place that forces good into prostitution." Chester pulled her in front of a mirror, "You need to put on some makeup and change into one of our outfits. It’s the rule, if you don’t comply, I can’t help you."

"Okay."

Yelena Hughes didn’t know how she endured those few hours, not only facing the naked eyes of men but also avoiding their wandering hands without offending them.

She was plied with a lot of alcohol, maintaining her composure with the last bit of consciousness.

When Yelena Hughes walked out of The Sovereign Club, her stomach churned, urging her to vomit.

She bent over, her eyes reddened by the alcohol, a man approached her. "Are you Yelena Hughes?"

She looked up at a completely unfamiliar face.

The man extended his hand towards her, "Miss Alden sent me. She said you should have earned quite a bit today."

Yelena Hughes wiped her mouth, smearing her vivid lipstick across her face. She opened her bag, taking out the crumpled bills inside, all tips given by those men.

"Take it."

Take it all, she didn’t want a penny of it; it was too filthy.

Yelena Hughes stuffed all the money into his hand, and he counted it right in front of her, casting an inscrutable look at her, "You do have quite the assets. I’ll be here every day at this time."

"By the way," the man reached into his pocket, pulling out a few pills, "Miss Alden said to give you these."

Yelena Hughes accepted them, heavy in her hand, almost hurting from the weight.

She didn’t know how long she would have to endure such days before seeing the end.

Just the first day, and she was already on the brink of collapse.
