The Broken Halo-Chapter 212: Cragborns & Instructor Sormon
[She’s strange.]
Simon was surprised by the fact that Lilith spoke. Ever since he left the cultivation tower and the academy, he had not spoken with Lilith or asked her any questions, and she also chose not to converse with him.
But now, she decided to speak to him, and her first words were about Sunless?
Simon found that very, very, very strange and alarming.
[What’s strange about her?]
[Hmm... I can’t really place my fingers on it, but I cannot see through her. I’m not talking about her mask or see through her physically... I can’t see her heart and soul.]
Simon was very confused.
[What?]
[Forget about it. You’re still too weak to understand even if I explain it to you.]
[Try me.]
He was not ready to give up on learning something new that could bolster his combat prowess.
Besides, Lilith had no idea that he was not actually a sixteen year old child but a sixty plus year old man in the body of a sixteen year old child.
She had no idea that he was a Demi-God in his past life, and he knew a lot more than some current Demon Kings when it came to certain things.
He believed that he should be able to learn it. However...
[No. I’m not going to waste my time and energy to teach you something you’re clearly not ready to learn.]
Simon frowned slightly, but he didn’t push it anymore. He would learn it eventually, and if she still refused to teach him, then it was still good since he did not believe that it was needed to become a god.
He decided to shift the topic back to Sunless.
[What about Sunless? How does you not being able to see her heart and soul matter? Is that what’s so strange about her?] 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
[Of course, me not being able to see her heart and soul matters because a mere Fiend should not be able to hide the essence of their heart and soul from me, even though I’m currently weakened.]
Simon still did not understand how such a thing was important, so he just remained silent.
[Anyway, just be careful around her. She definitely has a lot more secrets than you, and I feel like she’s hiding even her true strength.]
This time around, Simon could not help but glance at Sunless who was observing the other Initiates in the cafeteria.
She noticed his gaze and looked at him, but he had already shifted his gaze to the ceiling with his head bent backward on his chair.
[I’ll be careful around her. Thanks for the heads up.]
Lilith gave no response, and Simon’s subtly glanced at Sunless once again without moving his head.
’Hmm? Hold up.’
He suddenly thought of something.
[Hey, Lilith.]
[What?]
[Is she a Daemon? Or has she awakened a portion of her Daemon bloodline like me and Thorgan?]
[If she was a Daemon or if she had awakened a portion of her Daemon bloodline, I would have told you.]
[Hmm. I see.]
Lilith went silent once again, and Simon released a soft sigh.
’First, Thorgan. Now, Sunless. I wonder what secrets both of them are hiding and who else would have shocking secrets.’
He decided to close his eyes, complete shuttling off the noise from the cafeteria.
Time waited for no one, and the time for the Vertical Mobility class came.
Simon and Sunless both went for the Vertical Mobility class, and just like before, they brought attention and disbelief from their classmates.
More jealousy, envy, anger, and hatred were thrown at Simon from demons who already hated him and disliked him.
But Simon obviously did not spare a single thought to any of them.
Unlike the Physical Training class which took place in another dimension created by the clan, the location of the Vertical Mobility class was the entire clan.
They were to meet up with the Vertical Mobility Instructor at a particular location on the right cliff wall, and majority of the class were present.
Standing directly on the cliff wall and looking at them from above in a horizontal direction was their short instructor.
Their instructor was not up to five feet, probably 4’8, and he was a Cragborn.
He had a lean, compact body that was built for climbing. He also had dark, brown, rough, and hard skin that was like hard stone or granite. He had a long flexible tail that also assisted in his balance and climbing of cliffs and mountains, long fingers with dark retractable claws for gripping surfaces, and feet that had slightly hooked toes for gripping the surfaces of cliffs and mountains.
He also had dark brown eyes that resembled that of a reptile, and he was also wearing a bone mask of a lizard.
’A Cragborn of the Demonic Lizard race.’
Simon narrowed his eyes as he looked at their instructor. He then recalled what he knew about Cragborns.
’They have incredible grip strength, can cling to vertical surfaces almost like a gecko, have exceptional balance, can also sense small vibrations in stone, night vision, can move silently, and they also have explosive leg power to jump.’
’They’re dangerous hunters and assassins when it comes to ravines, cliffs, and mountains.’
’They have a Noble Bloodline, but it’s only Minor grade, and this Instructor Sormon is a Minor Greater Demon. Compared to Instructor Emith who is a Prime Greater Demon, he’s lacking... But in the right environment, he might win if Instructor Emith is not careful.’
Unlike some of his classmates, he already knew the names of their instructors for each course.
Instructor Sormon glanced at the Year One Initiates beneath him, then after nearly a minute of an uncomfortable silence, he finally spoke.
"Hmm. Seventy three (73) out of eighty two (82) of you are present. Nine are absent. They shall be punished in the future."
Instructor Sormon’s voice drifted into everybody’s ears, then he spoke once again.
"My name is Instructor Sormon, and I shall be your Vertical Mobility and Environmental Movement instructor. "
"Before the class officially begins, what I’ll tell you is that this course has one of the highest death rates amongst the other courses of the academy."
"So, you better put your all in this class if you don’t want to die."
