The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 272: A Surprise Visit
Emily parked her car and climbed out after grabbing her purse and phone from the passenger’s seat. The sound of her high heels hitting the pavement echoed as she walked across the parking lot and headed toward the huge building standing right in front of her - The Alessandro Corporation.
A huge smile appeared on her lips as she gazed at the beautiful twenty-storey building that was the award of the hard work that Domenic and the rest of her brothers had put into their business for so many years.
Letting out a small breath, she headed inside the building. She was greeted with the cold air of air conditioning which provided her relief from the scorching heat of the sunlight that barely touched her for a minute as she crossed the parking lot and entered the building.
She headed towards the reception area and found a young girl in her mid-twenties talking on the telephone. She waited for a couple of seconds for the lady to finish her conversation and once she had her full attention, she spoke, "Umm..., I’m here to meet Domenic."
The girl seemed a little bit taken aback by her words but she hurriedly controlled her expression and put on a business look as she questioned, "Do you have an appointment?"
"Appointment?" Emily was completely at loss. The thought of getting an appointment never crossed her mind. "Well, I don’t have one. But if not Domenic, can I meet with Daniel or Mark? Or maybe Crist?"
The woman shook her head with a sorry look on her face as she replied, "I’m really sorry, Mam. But no matter whom you want to meet from the higher-ups, I can allow you unless you have an appointment."
"Ah!" Emily chewed on her lower lip as she tried to think about a solution. The best and easiest option was to just leave but she wanted to have lunch with her brothers as she hadn’t returned home since the night before the previous day and she won’t be going to the Alessandro mansion for a few more days.
"Then let me make a call." She told the receptionist who politely nodded her head with a soft smile.
Not wanting to bother Nick or Dany just in case the two of them were handling some important business, she dialed Crist’s number.
It barely rang twice before her brother picked up the call. "What’s up, Em? You finally recall that you have a family." His tone was full of sarcasm as he taunted her about not returning to the mansion for the previous two nights.
"Stop being sarcastic. I’m waiting at the reception on the ground floor. Come and get me." She told her brother and even before he could have a chance to speak, she ended the call.
She turned around to look at the receptionist who seemed to be watching her with a questioning look on her face. "It’s alright now. You can continue with your work. Crist will be here to pick me up."
The surprise was clear in the woman’s expression as she stared back at Emily. "Mam, just in case... are you friends with the Alessandros?"
A small smile bloomed on Emily’s lips as she lightly shook her head in denial before answering. "No. I’m their sister."
The woman’s jaw almost dropped to the floor as she stared at Emily in shock. "Oh my Goodness! Mam, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t aware of your identity." She quickly apologized as she bowed, making Emily flustered.
"Hey, it’s alright. You don’t have to apologize. You were just doing your job. Besides, you were so polite to me. I actually like you. Keep working hard. Fighting!" Emily tried to cheer the young woman.
The receptionist finally looked up at Emily and seeing that the Young Miss was smiling sincerely and there was no trace of anger or resentment in her eyes, she finally found herself relaxing.
"Have a good day, Mam." She politely whished and watched as Emily walked away with a small gentle nod.
-
Emily watched as Crist stepped out of the private elevator located on the first floor before he moved toward the stairs leading to the ground floor.
She relaxed against the back of the sofa as she folded her hands across her chest and watched her brother who was finally making his way towards the sitting area where she was currently resting.
"Why are you alone? Where’s Shadow?" Crist asked as his eyes moved to search their surroundings as if to find Shadow.
"He’s at the apartment... sleeping," Emily replied as she grabbed her purse and phone before standing up.
"Wait, sleeping?" Crist looked genuinely confused and surprised as he followed behind her as they both headed upstairs to get into the lift.
The employees passing by noticed the beautiful young woman walking beside Crist as the two were walking side by side, the similarities in their features were undeniable. It could easily be told that this young woman was none other than the sole Princess of the Alessandro Empire.
"She’s so beautiful..." One of the employees whispered to her friend as they watched Miss Alessandro heading upstairs.
"Look at her clothes. They are from the latest collection." Another employee added.
"You should rather look at her smile. It’s like the room is filled with immense light." Another employee, a young man in his early twenties, spoke in a dreamlike voice as he stared at Emily non-stop.
"Hey! Don’t forget that Miss Alessandro is engaged to Mr. Sullivan. Everyone in the city knows that the two of them are mates. So keep your thoughts from flying high in the clouds." A colleague reprimanded the young man to help him come out of his dreamland.
The whispering among the employees did reach Emily and Crist’s ears. "Looks like they got a new topic to gossip about." The latter spoke with a shake of his head.
"Eh! You still haven’t answered. What’s with Shadow?" He repeated the question as they entered the elevator.
