Chapter 245: A painful end

To Shadow’s surprise, Kaiden remained calm after hearing his question. Though the smile on his face disappeared, his eyes remained relaxed as it seemed like he already had a plan regarding the matter.

"I’m planning to do it on her birthday since Elise’s birthday is also on that day. Every year, I will visit her grave on that day. I used to pass my time by drinking and recalling our memories, but it all changed when Angel appeared." A little twitch appeared on Kaiden’s lips as he recalled the first time he saw Emily.

The little twitch bloomed into a complete smile as he found his heart warming up at those beautiful memories. Letting out a small sigh, he shook his head slightly as if to pull himself out of his thoughts before continuing.

"Unfortunately, in the past five years, I wasn’t able to celebrate Angel’s birthday with her. But this time, I want to celebrate both of their birthdays with her. I’m aware that she needs to know about my past for our relationship to progress. That’s why, this year, I have planned to visit Elise with Emily." He admitted while staring at the vast forest covering the mountains down below the cliff where the Sullivan Mansion was located.

Shadow nodded his head in understanding. Finding out that Kaiden already had planned to disclose the matter to Emily, he was feeling somewhat relieved.

"What do you think? How she’s going to react?" Kaiden found himself asking as he turned his attention back at the Vampire Lord.

"I just know that everything is going to be fine," Shadow answered as he gave a reassuring look to the man who became relaxed a little at his assurance.

What Shadow didn’t tell him was that Emily would probably start blaming herself once she would find out about Elise. But that was something that the two of them, Kaiden and Emily, would need to sort out on their own. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Alright! So..., what’s the thing that you wanted to tell me, or discuss with me?" Kaiden asked as he fully turned to face Shadow.

This time, the other man remained silent for not just a couple of seconds or minutes, but for quite some time which made Kaiden both impatient and kind of anxious.

"What is it, Shadow?" He asked again while staring right into the amber eyes of the Vampire. Those firey orbs were a direct contrast to his, Kaiden’s, deep blue eyes that represented an ocean.

"Actually, I want to show you something really important. I just hope that you will be able to handle it." Shadow finally answered and stretched his left palm outwards while waiting for the shifter’s response.

Kaiden seemed hesitant for a few moments but then he nodded his head, trying his best to stay calm and see what Shadow wanted to show him.

His eyes turned towards the open palm that Shadow had moved towards him. He stared at it trying to see what everything was about but even through his enhanced eyesight of a werewolf shifter, he saw nothing different about Shadow’s palm.

"What?" He ended up questioning while shifting his gaze between the Supreme Lord’s face and his open palm.

Shadow let out a small sigh and shook his head too before he took hold of one of Kaiden’s hands. And before the wolf shifter could have gotten a chance to speak, he placed his other hand over Kaiden’s eyes, forcing him to close them.

"Just stay still and watch," Shadow whispered as he started channeling his powers to both his hands.

The one which was holding Kaiden’s hand started sending calm energy into his body to make sure that the man won’t panic. While the other hand, that was placed over Kaiden’s eyes, opened a little mirror filled with Emily’s memories of Elise.

Shadow made sure to only show Elise’s memories without uncovering any details regarding Emily or her connection with Elise. He would let the two of them sort it out on their own.

The only reason he was showing Kaiden these memories was because that man deserved to know about what happened to his first mate. Knowing fully well how painful it was for Emily to go back in her past and relive those moments, he didn’t want her to go through it again while showing Kaiden those memories.

Besides, he was aware that his princess wasn’t ready to show her past to anyone, probably because she didn’t want anyone to see her in such a broken state, especially her brothers and Kaiden.

Shadow felt Kaiden becoming stiff barely a few seconds later and it didn’t take long before his entire body was shaking with the force of emotions that were attacking him while he watched the torturous moments that his first mate had to go through before her death.

And just like he predicted, Kaiden’s wolf started overpowering by the time they reached the end of the memories. The part where Elise died.

Shadow knew that it was a great torture for Kaiden to helplessly watch his late mate dying in front of his very eyes, even if it was just in a memory. But at the same time, it was also necessary for him, Kaiden, to see this. Not only because he was Elise’s mate but also because this would help him move on from the self-guilt.

By the time, Shadow lowered his hand that was covering Kaiden’s eyes, the latter was shaking as tears rolled down his cheeks. And even though he was still channeling his energy into the shifter’s body to calm him down, his drained body and soul were not really in a great state to continue doing that for too long.

"Just how much she had suffered... I... I’m a-a... t-terrible mate. I... I c-can’t... even... I..." Kaiden became a sobbing mess and could barely speak anything that made sense.

Shadow stared at the young man who was nowhere near calming down. Not knowing what to do anymore, he stopped channeling his powers into Kaiden’s body and pulled the man in a loose but warm embrace.
