The Bodyguard King's CEO Wife-Chapter 1399: Trapping the Enemy in the Jar
Ever since the last suppression of the rebel army at Long Mountain, Ye Shikai had always retained this "special operations team," aiming to complete tasks under special conditions. Including having Xue San "escort" Ma Peng’s wife to Stone Peak Fortress, they used team members to infiltrate the Ma Residence; assassination missions, infiltration missions—they had never failed.
"Old man, how about now? Your life is in my hands." Man Cang already looked fierce, and now, with a short knife pressed against Ma Peng’s neck, he immediately broke down.
"Ye... Ye, I was forced!" Ma Peng nearly cried out. Now that the matter was exposed, he couldn’t escape death, and even his family might suffer.
"It’s because of the Wolf Clan, right? You smuggled arrows to the Wolf Clan, and in Great Qin, that’s a capital offense. The Wolf Clan threatened you with your transactions; if you didn’t side with them, they’d expose everything to Meng Tian." Ye Shikai had predicted this; Ma Peng wasn’t the kind of person with audacity, and his mental fortitude was rather poor. Just now, he was already breaking down crying. If he sided with the Wolf Clan, it was because he was coerced.
"Yes, Ye... Ye, please give me a chance to atone for my crimes and spare my family." Ma Peng cried and pleaded with Ye Shikai.
"Ma, if nothing else, I’ve been good to you, even preparing a chance for you. It just depends on whether you want it or not."
"Of course, of course, as long as my family is spared, I’m willing to do anything." Ma Peng immediately nodded in agreement.
"If nothing goes wrong, the Wolf Clan will be here soon. I need the Commander’s Seal for the two thousand garrison troops in your hand and your cooperation in a play."
..................
Just as Ye Shikai had anticipated, it wasn’t long before the iron cavalry of the Wolf Clan was at the city gates, a dense, black mass. Ye Shikai remained calm, not worried that Ma Peng would dare do anything "unexpected." All his family was in Ye Shikai’s hands, and with one word, they could be executed...
Ye Shikai observed closely. Below, there were about two thousand Wolf Clan cavalry, along with some infantry and archers wielding long swords, totaling roughly four thousand. Indeed, it was quite a large number, but frankly, Stone Peak Fortress was easy to defend and hard to attack. Even if five thousand Wolf Riders came, as long as Han Hao’s five thousand and Ma Peng’s two thousand garrison troops worked together, they couldn’t break through.
The city walls of Stone Peak Fortress were only about seven or eight meters long, with steep cliffs on both sides. The Wolf Clan lacked siege machinery, and if they attacked brute force, at most five thousand could go up at a time. The rest had no room to maneuver, only waiting for those in front to die before stepping in. To the Qin Army with the terrain advantage, it was virtually a suicide mission.
The most critical aspect was the fortress’s location; it was a vital passage connecting the Central Plains and the grasslands. Through here, it bypassed the Great Wall defense line and went straight for Ji County, and then from the north to south, threatening to swallow up the entire Central Plains.
"Ma, don’t panic. Once successful, your family will be safe, and should Lord Han agree, even your life might be spared, though you can’t stay here." Ye Shikai stood beside Ma Peng, gently reminding him.
"I understand, I understand. I will fully cooperate." Ma Peng steadied himself; he couldn’t panic now, or how could he lure the Wolf Clan into the trap.
"Cough, cough, is that General Helian?" Ma Peng stood on the city wall, shouting loudly.
"General Ma Peng, according to our agreement, you are to present the fortress to us. Is there a problem?" Ye Shikai looked down to see a heavily bearded general riding a warhorse with a long knife. Based on Ma Peng’s previous information, this "General Helian" was the Commander of these Wolf Clan soldiers. Once they captured him, these men would have no leader.
"No problem, no problem, I’ll open the gates now." Ma Peng immediately agreed, instructing a dozen soldiers to raise the portcullis and open the main gate.
"Haha, the Qin Army boasts of being a tiger wolf army, but it seems otherwise to me. Troops, follow me inside!" General Helian shouted loudly, leading the cavalry behind him slowly into the fortress.
"Everyone, get ready." Ye Shikai watched as the Wolf Clan soldiers entered the fortress from the city wall, then turned around and softly instructed the soldiers beside him. The fortress’s sides were sheer cliffs, with only a north and south passage, and the north side was a solid large city wall. Since Ye Shikai intentionally let the Wolf Clan in to trap them, he was well prepared. Eight hundred archers had been arranged on the city wall, personally overseen by Ye Shikai.
Ye Shikai observed continuously, waiting for everyone to enter...
"Strange, why is there no one here?" Helian rode his horse, looking left and right; the small camp was surprisingly empty.
"Ma Peng reported there should be three thousand troops here, but besides the soldiers on the wall, why can’t I see any?" Helian turned his horse toward the wall.
"Ma Peng, where are the remaining soldiers? Where are they?" Helian shouted up at the wall.
"Ma, leave the rest to me." Ye Shikai sneered, waved his hand, and Xue San immediately led a dozen soldiers to pull the ropes, lowering the iron portcullis. This gate was incredibly heavy and sturdy; forcing it open was almost impossible.
"All troops, hear the order, eliminate the Wolf Clan." Ye Shikai drew out his longsword and shouted to the heavens. His voice echoed through the entire valley, and the archers on the wall immediately stood up, firing over a thousand arrows rapidly, instantly taking down a swath of Wolf Clan soldiers.
"Damn it, there’s an ambush, we need to retreat quickly." Helian’s face changed drastically, turned his horse intending to leave, but the portcullis had completely blocked their retreat. This era had no "jack," after all.
"Keep firing, don’t stop."
Meanwhile, from the commanding height on the city wall, the archers had an unobstructed view, armed with powerful bows and crossbows. Below were mostly Wolf Clan cavalry in leather armor, and this was simply a massacre. Ye Shikai had already destroyed the pathways leading up the wall, so there was no way for the Wolf Clan to come up—only to be shot below. The Wolf Riders’ strength lay in their mobility and fierce charges, but trapped in such a confined space, the warhorses couldn’t maneuver, reacting slower than even infantry.
"Damn, everyone, charge forward with me." Helian, seeing the situation, was furious. With cliffs to the east and west, the northern wall was impassable; they had to charge south, further into the fortress. The Wolf Clan cavalry charged in an instant, moving swiftly. If they could break through the southern gate, they might still escape.
"Next, it depends on Man Cang." Ye Shikai focused on the south, a confident smile slowly appearing on his face.
