The Bodyguard King's CEO Wife-Chapter 1218: Visiting
Inside the Zheng Family.
"Everyone, do come in quickly." Zheng Ji invited Ye Shikai and Ji Qian along with others inside. The tense and nerve-wracking sacrificial ceremony had finally concluded, and Zheng Ji’s heart felt relieved from a great burden. Overall, it went quite smoothly. He had anticipated danger beforehand, and a few Zheng Family members got injured, but that was not a concern for him; compensation to their families was merely a matter of paying them money.
What was truly unfortunate was Elder Zhang’s death. When Zheng Li learned of this, he expressed considerable grief. Although in front of others, Zheng Li merely sighed in regret, Zheng Ji, as his son, knew that Zheng Li was genuinely saddened. If memory served him right, Elder Zhang had been with Zheng Li since he came of age at eighteen, renowned in the family for his strong and brave character and loyal spirit, for thirty-three years. But sadly "late honor is lost." However, for Elder Zhang, from the moment he served Zheng Li, he likely foresaw this result.
Zheng Li was understandably angry. He publicly offered a reward of fifty million for anyone who could capture the mastermind behind the events, and be honored as an esteemed guest of the Zheng Family—a dream desired by many. Privately, Zheng Li had even hired an intelligence team to thoroughly investigate the root of the incident.
"Mr. Ye, Miss Ji, this time it was truly thanks to you. Otherwise, it wouldn’t just be Elder Zhang; it might have cost my own life." Zheng Ji personally brewed tea for them.
"No need for courtesy, Mr. Zheng. I had mentioned beforehand that this operation was not only to assist you but also part of our own plans." Ye Shikai smirked cunningly. "It validated our assumptions. Though we lost many people this time, the trip was not made in vain."
In total, Limei, Xue Ming, and Boss Xing colluded with internal forces within the Zheng family to sabotage the sacrificial ceremony.
Ye Shikai and the others guessed correctly—the world is indeed small, constantly finding oneself face-to-face with enemies. That was a norm. In a different light, this encounter with Limei, with Boss Xing’s mutated humans, were all foes he wanted to eradicate quickly—all while earning Zheng Ji’s favor.
However, if not for that elder intervening timely, everyone would have faced disaster. After all, this was Huaxia, not the Netherworld Palace’s territory, and couldn’t mobilize many people. Fighting with fewer against many undoubtedly posed risk.
"By the way, did your father recognize that elder’s identity?" Ji Qian shifted the topic, asking. She was quite confident in her artistic skills. If truly encountered, Zheng Li should be able to recognize them.
"Well...he didn’t." Zheng Ji shook his head regrettably. "My father stated clearly; he didn’t know the elder nor ever heard of a tomb keeper in the Zheng Family."
"That’s impossible." Ye Shikai was the first to express doubt, and appeared quite moved. How could it be that a family tomb that had been guarded for so long was watched over by a stranger, and the elder openly declared himself as a tomb keeper, seemingly truthful?
"It’s true. I think that elder is probably a high adept. As for his identity, I’ll dispatch more people to investigate." Zheng Ji shook his head saying. Ye Shikai didn’t doubt the words of the elder but rather...began doubting Zheng Li. He was a sly old fox; nine out of ten things he said were false, the remaining one was only partly believable. Yet, surely he wouldn’t lie to his own son?
Truly unfathomable.
Ye Shikai drank the hot tea, planning to return to Yanjing with Ji Qian and the others after the mission. The remaining matters would be entrusted to Zheng Ji.
"Boss." Suddenly, Soul Destroyer rushed in from outside. Seeing Ye Shikai talking with Zheng Ji, he swallowed the words that were almost uttered.
"Whatever it is, speak freely." Ye Shikai spoke directly.
"Just received word—there’s been an explosion at the East Sea Hospital. It seems...targeting Ghost and Gu Xin."
"What? Are they alright?" Hearing this, Ye Shikai became alarmed; it was a hospital after all, densely populated, and Ghost was no longer the Ghost of old but Gu Li, an ordinary person with inner strength.
"They should be fine. Investigators saw them being rescued."
"What do you mean ’should be fine’? Go investigate thoroughly!" Ye Shikai’s temper flared at this answer, loudly scolding Soul Destroyer.
"Yes, I’m on it now."
"No need to rush, Mr. Ye, since this incident occurred in the East Sea, why not leave it to me? I have manpower here, making investigation more convenient."
"Then...I’ll leave it to Mr. Zheng." Ye Shikai nodded, and took Ji Qian with him outside.
"Someone, prepare the car; head to East Sea Hospital."
....................................
"Li, does your back still hurt?" Gu Xin sat beside him, looking at the Ghost lying motionless on the bed, bandaged thoroughly on his back. Due to severe burns, he could only sleep lying on his stomach for the time being.
"It’s alright." Ghost portrayed an indifferent demeanor; dust from the explosion had all splattered across his back, but cultivators had far superior bones and musculature compared to ordinary people, their physique strong, their tolerance to pain was naturally high. Earlier when his wounds were cleaned, he didn’t even use anesthesia. Ghost still feared injuries, but would rather have ten more scars on his back than see even an additional one on Gu Xin. The two of them managed to be rescued; wasn’t that the best outcome?
Knock, knock, knock.
"Wait a moment, I’m coming." Gu Xin approached to open the door—it was Ye Shikai.
"I’ve heard Ghost...Gu Li got injured, so I came specifically to visit." Ye Shikai carried a fruit basket inside. Who knows who first brought fruit baskets to visit patients. While on the way earlier, he was eager to visit Ghost, but remembered it wouldn’t be right to show up empty-handed, so he made a special stop to buy one.
However, Gu Xin seemed reluctant to see Ye Shikai. Since his appearance in their lives, various misfortunes arrived one after another. In Gu Xin’s eyes, Ye Shikai was akin to a jinx.
"Mr. Ye, Miss Ji, it’s you." Ghost saw them arriving, but didn’t show any rejection. A guest was a guest, especially old friends.
"Gu Li, I brought you the best ointment. Apply it and not only will the burn wounds heal quickly, there won’t even be scars." Ye Shikai entered, placing a small black bottle on the table.
"That’s perfect. I’m fretting over the scar issue. If scars appear, they’ll be quite unsightly." Ghost teased.
