Chapter 1215: Chapter 1215: Hospital Crisis

East Sea Hospital.

"Li, where are we going for dinner later?" Gu Xin changed out of her nurse’s uniform and came to the security room, just in time to see Ghost dressed in casual wear.

"Let’s go home and cook, we can’t always eat out," Ghost said with a bitter smile. There was a time in the Netherworld Palace when he didn’t have to worry about "a little money." Back then, he had money, he had power, just one word to his subordinates was enough. But now, he’s just a hospital security guard with a monthly salary a little over three thousand, plus rent to pay. The cost of living in East Sea is so high; occasional dining out is okay, but not every day. And now Ghost has a girlfriend and wants to save money for the future.

Ah, men, it’s really tough.

As a responsible boyfriend, Ghost is known for being thrifty, but fortunately, Gu Xin is independent and self-reliant, never asking Ghost for expensive gifts.

"Alright, let’s go to the market first, then head home," Gu Xin nodded. "Let me treat you to my new culinary invention."

"Is it one of those dishes that could be used as rat poison?" Ghost teased.

"What are you babbling about."

"Hey, Gu Xin, you’re here! Go to Room 601, there’s a patient specifically asking for you." Suddenly, a young nurse said at the door. Gu Xin was quite curious; usually, people have specific doctors they want to see, but rarely name a nurse. Besides, Room 601 is a premium room, and Gu Xin doesn’t cover that area.

"Well... okay." Gu Xin turned to Ghost. "Wait for me a bit, I’ll be right back down."

"Do you want me to come with you?" Ghost asked.

"It’s fine, no need. I’ll be back soon. You wait at the hospital entrance." Gu Xin shook her head.

"Alright, call me when you’re done."

Ghost headed to the hospital entrance. The sky was gradually growing dark, but Gu Xin still hadn’t come down. Checking his phone, half an hour had passed; Ghost couldn’t help but feel worried and dialed her number to find out what was going on.

Beep, beep, beep.

Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable, please try again later.

No sound from Gu Xin on the other end, just a cold synthetic voice.

"Who is it?" Just as Ghost felt puzzled, a chilling wind suddenly blew from behind. Instinctively, he sidestepped—a hand chop nearly hit his nose. He looked closer; it was a stranger.

"Who are you, and why did you attack me?" Ghost didn’t rush to fight back; he needed to straighten things out. Besides, he felt this woman was testing him; otherwise, she would’ve brought weapons like a dagger.

"Here’s a suggestion: go upstairs to check on your little girlfriend." The woman suddenly said coldly.

"What? Did you do something to her?" Ghost’s heart suddenly tightened. Could it be... Gu Xin is in danger?

Sure enough, upon hearing this, Ghost paid no attention to the woman standing before him and rushed immediately into the hospital. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Thump, thump.

No matter how long he waited, the elevator didn’t come; anxiously, Ghost knocked on the elevator doors.

"Li, the elevator’s broken, what’s wrong with you?" A nurse came over, quite curious seeing Ghost like this. Ghost was renowned for his calm demeanor; this was rare for him.

"Where’s Gu Xin, have you seen her?" Ghost quickly asked.

"What? Didn’t she already leave with you? What’s going on?"

"Damn it." Frustrated, Ghost dashed to the stairway entrance. Since the elevator was out, the stairs were the only option.

Bam.

Ghost kicked open Room 601’s door, nearly sending it flying off its hinges.

"Xin’er, what happened?" Ghost saw Gu Xin sitting on a chair with her back to him and immediately rushed over.

"Don’t come here." Gu Xin suddenly screamed, causing Ghost to halt abruptly, almost tripping over.

"Gu Xin, what’s going on?" Ghost moved to the front, discovering that Gu Xin was holding a cardboard box, but remained motionless, her body trembling slightly.

"What is this?" Ghost curiously asked. Seeing Gu Xin unmoving and unresponsive, he opened the box himself.

Inside the surrounding glass columns were steel balls, along with triggers, detonators, and... explosives.

"There’s a balance mechanism; if the box tilts, the steel balls hit the trigger, it’ll explode," Gu Xin quivered and said. Only then did Ghost notice that there seemed to be a device connecting Gu Xin and the bomb together, the explosive also tied to her. Forcing removal would trigger an immediate explosion. The most crucial part was that the bomb was set to go off in more than twenty minutes. If not disarmed, Gu Xin would inevitably die. Ghost had seen such bombs before; they’re notoriously difficult to defuse. Generally, the person strapped with the bomb is doomed. Although it’s in this tense situation, maintaining balance is no easy task. The current Ghost has lost his memory, so in his opinion, this is merely a balance bomb.

"What’s going on here?" Ghost immediately asked, his gaze fixed on the box bomb. He’s now just an ordinary person, with, at most, some inner strength and a bit of skill; however, he has zero professional bomb disposal knowledge, having just seen some bomb-defusing scenes in movies.

"What’s happening?" Just then, the young nurse rushed over.

"Quick, go outside, call the police, there’s a bomb here," Ghost urgently shouted.

"Okay, okay, I... I’ll call the police."

"Xin’er, don’t be afraid, I’ll dismantle the bomb right away." Ghost glanced around, picking up a pair of scissors from the table, carefully examining the bomb’s structure. Judging by the bomb’s size, its power surely isn’t small; if it detonates, this floor won’t stand a chance.

"You should leave; this is too dangerous." Gu Xin was absolutely terrified now. Such an event would utterly frighten anyone, but past kidnapping had left Gu Xin not as disheveled.

"Don’t talk, try to stay balanced, I can handle this," repeated Ghost, not only comforting Gu Xin but also himself. In this situation, defusing the bomb was like betting on luck. A bomb disposal expert couldn’t arrive within twenty minutes, even if he did, there wouldn’t be enough time to disarm it.

Ghost wouldn’t leave alone no matter what; if they were to die, they’d die together.
