The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 99: Haven’s arranged marriage
Chapter 99: Haven’s arranged marriage
Aiden has resolved the security system issue, allowing Dalton to be discharged from the hospital to continue his treatment at home.
. Three weeks have passed since Maya shot Dalton, and nothing out of the ordinary has happened. Charlotte has gone silent. No one has seen Beatrice since the day she slapped her at the hospital. She is probably back in Europe, hunting for her next husband. Valentina has been holed up in the mansion. Maya hasn’t seen her since she found her in her room uninvited. Soraya is back in Spain. All of her enemies have gone into hiding, leaving her life feeling stilly. But there’s another threat Vico.
Maya has been on edge, waiting for the next bomb to drop and disrupt their lives once again.
What will Vico do next? She is trying so hard to enjoy the little peace that has seeped through her chaotic world, but she can’t help but get tense when Vico pops up in her thoughts, reminding her that he is out for Dalton’s blood.
Is he out for her blood, too?
"Maya," someone interrupted her chain of thoughts. She wheeled around.
"Oh, Aiden, does Dalton need anything?" He was with Dalton.
"No, he is asleep."
Maya is sure Oliver included a drug to make Dalton fall asleep since he refused to. Even though it has been three weeks, Dalton is still stuck in bed; he is halfway through a full recovery. His temper is on the rise, being in bed for three weeks isn’t fun at all. Maya knows how that feels.
Maya blew air inside her cheek. "Okay."
"Are you going somewhere?" Aiden asked.
She was leaning on the hood of her truck. "Yep, off to the restaurant, not to work. It’s my off day. I’m having lunch with Haven."
"I’m coming with you," Aiden snatched the keys from her grasp.
"Why?"
"I need to speak to both of you about something important. Are your other friends coming along? Laura and Natalia." He said their names with such venom.
"No, just Haven and I, but why are you asking about Laura and Natalia?" Maya gave him a suspicious look.
"Well...." A car slid into the driveway, parking in front of Maya’s truck, stealing their attention.
"Haven... and." Maya’s voice flattened as an unknown man stepped out of the driver’s seat and opened the door of the passenger seat, ushering Haven out.
"Haven," Maya smothered a smile.
"Thanks for dropping me off," Haven smiled, lips tight at the unknown guy.
The guy whispered to Haven, and she instantly tensed up.
Maya’s smile flattened.
"Babe, thanks," Haven said as she kissed the guy, and it was so painful to watch.
"Hi, guys," she waved at them.
"Meet my fiancé, Kelvin." Haven smiled wide, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
"Wow, no wonder she is not excited about the wedding," Aiden snidely murmured for only Maya’s hearing.
Maya elbowed Aiden’s side. "He is right in front of us, jerk," she said through gritted teeth.
"We finally met you, Kelvin," Maya scanned him from head to toe. He is not what she expected. He is supposed to Haven’s age since they grew up together, but the man standing in front of them looks like he is in his mid-thirties.
"You’re her boss’s girlfriend?" Kelvin shot Maya a cold glance.
Maya exchanged a confused look with Aiden.
"Yes, she is Maya, my best friend," Haven said defensively.
"Okay, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Maya. Remember, we are having dinner together tonight." He slid into the car and drove off.
Maya blinked. "Wow, that was rude."
Embarrassment flushed across Haven’s face. "That’s Kelvin, my fiancé. He’s not a people person, like Mr. Black."
"Nope, Dalton isn’t that rude. Don’t compare my brother to that arrogant fiancé of yours." Aiden was offended on Dalton’s behalf.
"We have a lot to talk about, Haven." Maya opened the backseat door and prod Haven inside before entering after her.
Aiden slithered behind the wheel. "Let’s go get ice cream, girls."
Aiden drove them to a popular ice cream shop in the city.
They found a table by the window to occupy. Aiden ordered a Fudge Brownie Sundae with chocolate shavings sprinkled on top.
The moment Haven scooped her spoon Into her ice cream, Maya started propelling her with questions. "Okay, why does your fiancé look like he’s in his thirties instead of being a 20-year-old like you? You said you guys are childhood friends."
Haven’s jaw twisted. "I lied. You weren’t supposed to see the engagement ring. I had to wear it that day because Kelvin was back in town. He travels alot so i don’t wear the ring often. "
"How long have you two been engaged?" Aiden asked, joining the conversation.
On any other day, Haven could have told him to mind his own business, but she was down today, so she responded to him. "Since I was eighteen."
"You’re quite frightened of him, aren’t you?"
Haven nods franticly.
"Then why are you engaged to him?" Aiden raised his hands.
"It’s an arranged marriage."
"What?" Maya nearly spilled her ice cream. "You said your parents aren’t that strict or old-fashioned."
Haven fidgeted with her fingers. "Yes, they aren’t, but my dad made some stupid blood oath with Kelvin’s family years ago, long before I was born. Now I’m suffering the consequences of it, being forced to marry a man I don’t love." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"I would rather die than marry that guy. Oh my God, he is so controlling. When he is in town, I can’t go anywhere without his permission. He treats me like a child."
Maya placed her hand on Haven’s shoulder. "Is there anything we can do about it?"
"Nothing can be done. I’m getting married to him next month, not when I turn 23. I lied," she lamented dejectedly.
"I will help you," Aiden interjected.
They spanned their eyes jaggedly toward Aiden.
Maya eyed him from the corner of her eye. Is he going to kill him or something?
Aiden rolled his eyes. "Jeez, Maya. I’m not going to kill him, okay?"
"How will you help me?" Haven narrowed her eyes at Aiden.
Aiden smirked. "Don’t worry your pretty little head about the details. You want him gone, right?"
"Y- Yes," Haven nods.
"Just sit back and relax, Haven." Aiden suddenly pressed his thumb to the corner of Haven’s lips, wiping away a bit of chocolate.
"Thank you," Haven said, her voice low. They stared at each other, their eyes melting together. Their heads leaning in, just one inch, and they could almost kiss.
Maya felt awkward as if she were a third party intruding on a private moment.
Oh, she is now certain that these two like each other. She held it in, but a burst of giggles escaped from her mouth, causing Haven and Aiden to break off their intense staring match, their heads drawing back.
Haven cleared her throat. "This ice cream is good."
"Yeah, it is," Aiden stared at Haven, not even a blink.
"Um, I think I need to be with Dalton," Maya said, picking up her handbag and slinging it over her shoulder.
"You’re leaving?" Haven made a face like a child abandoned by their mother.
"Sorry, Dalton needs me. Aiden, keep my girl company. Be nice to her," Maya warned.
"Thanks, I owe you one," Aiden mouthed to Maya when Haven wasn’t looking.
