Chapter 72: new part-owner

Maya looked over her shoulders and back at her bed. Her gaze flitted to the woman sitting at the edge of her bed, legs crossed.

"Valentina, how did you get into my room?" Maya questioned her half-sister. "Who let you in?"

Valentina rolled her eyes. "The maids, Duh. I just had to flash my eyes at them, and they realized we are sisters." She batted her eyes at Maya.

Valentina and Maya inherited their mother’s blue eyes.

"What do you want?" "Why are you here?" Maya snapped at Valentina making her flinge.

Valentina leaped to her feet, reducing the distance between them. Maya could see loneliness and distress in her half-sister’s eyes. She is worsening. Valentina appears more depressed than the last time she saw her. Maya’s heart ached slightly for Valentina, and she was resisting the urge to console her to ease her pain. She wished to mend their strained relationship, but then she remembered Valentina conspiring with Frederick Hathaway and Terrence to sell her into sex slavery. This was unforgivable. She can never forgive her.

The ache for Valentina’s predicament in Maya’s heart twitched into coldness. Her half-sister does not deserve such sympathy.

"Don’t think I am here to play the older sister bullshit with you. I can see from your face you are thinking it’s why I’m here." Valentina scornfully mocked.

Maya’s lips pursed at the corners. And here she was feeling sympathy for this juvenile, irksome, daft woman she has as a half-sister. "You have never acted like one. So why should I expect this from you? Tell me why you are here and get out of my room."

Valentina contorts her face into a snarl. "I am here against my will, acting as a messenger."

Maya’s brows knitted, her mind clouded. "A messenger for what?" Valentina rammed a manila file into Maya’s bosom. Maya grabbed it before it could fall.

"What is this?" She opened it and pulled up a document. Her confusion persisted as she read the content.

"I own 50% of Venus Gentlemen Club?" Maya spurted in shock. "Since when?" she asked, staring intently at the document.

. "Since the new owner took over. " Valentina said as she fidgeted with her pedicure nails.

"Why? Is it because your father used our mother’s money to establish and operate the gentlemen’s club?" Maya drew conclusions. It is the only plausible explanation.

Valentina shakes her head, sending Maya into even more confusion. "Then I could have a portion of the shares, but I don’t. That dude made you a part-owner of the club."

Maya’s forehead formed into a frown. "Why then?"

Valentina gave a shrug. "It seems the new owner is fond of you."

Her words were still ineffective in clearing Maya’s confusion.

Maya blinked profusely. "Wait, does this mean the new owner knows me?"

Valentina gives a nod. "In fact, he has known you all your life."

Maya ran her fingers through her raven-black hair. "God, I am getting more confused. He has known me all my life? Who is this owner?"

Valentina’s lips drew together into a smirk, and a sly look danced in her eyes.

Maya immediately grasped it. "You expect something in exchange for revealing the identity of the new owner to me. So clever of you." Valentina may not be as dimwitted as she assumed.

"I am glad you got it, sis."

"No, I will not let you sell our mother’s house." Maya vehemently refused. Valentina’s face clenched.

"Suit yourself, dear sister. This new owner is someone so important in your life. How I wish you knew even his name." Valentina burst out, leaving Maya bewildered and perplexed

. Haven slid an invitation card onto Dalton’s desk. "Mr. Black, here’s an invitation to the annual Billionaires Club gala party."

Dalton glanced at the card and then averted his gaze. He has always declined the organizers’ invitations in the past, but this time he will attend. He needs to flaunt his power and influence to these vultures in the elite world. To remind them of the reasons they feared him. Because he has become somewhat tame, one of these vultures believed they could harm Maya and get away with it.

"I will attend. " Dalton declared.

"Sir you are required to bring a plus one."

Haven squeaks, "I know Maya will be thrilled to accompany you."

Dalton paused, his fingers jabbing roughly on the keyboard. No, he does not want to expose Maya to these hungry wolves, but if he goes alone, he is still declaring to the world that he is single. So that’s a bad option.

He let out a heavy sigh. "Get Maya a beautiful gown for this gala party." He is announcing to the world that Maya is the love of his life.

"Yes! I will find her the most stunning gown." Haven strode off, full of excitement.

She ran into Aiden on her way out.

"Someone is overjoyed this afternoon." Aiden comments. "It must be your upcoming wedding. How is the planning going so far?"

"None of your business." Haven snapped at him before walking past him.

"ouch," Aiden feigned hurt as he touched his heart.

"She doesn’t like you. Stop bothering my secretary, and stay away from her."

Aiden grumbles in displeasure. "I am not interested in her; this is just harmless banter with her." He dropped the lunch delivery bag on the desk.

Dalton eyed his lunch and felt unhappy. Maya has stopped accompanying Aiden. He misses eating lunch with her. "I didn’t say you are interested in Haven. But are you?"

Aiden slid into one of the visitor’s seats. "No," he snorts. "She is too young for me."

"She is 20, and you are 27," Dalton points out. They have the same age gap as he and Maya.

Dalton is 30 years old, and Maya is 23. Aiden pushed on.

"She is not my type."

"You are not her type, either. She is a dove, and you are a crazy wolf."

Aiden gave a laugh. "Touché."

They moved to the table facing the floor-to-ceiling window, where Dalton frequently eats his lunch. The brothers sat opposite each other and began eating their lunch. Maya made a chickpea salad sandwich.

Aiden began a conversation as he ate his lunch. "Have you heard from your new enemy?"

"No," Dalton has been eagerly anticipating a new crazily written message from his new nemesis, but he has been met with silence for over two months.

"He said I would know who he is when he makes his next move," Dalton ardently wants to find him before he does.

"Anything new about the new owner of Venus City?" Dalton enquired since they both had suspicions this owner may be his new enemy.

"I heard whispers on the street that he had given half of the Venus City shares to someone," Aiden reveals.

"To whom?"

" I know someone in the city government department. And I got confirmation from that person. He only told me that the new part-owner of Venus City is a woman because it is confidential information.

Dalton stopped eating as he became preoccupied with his thoughts. "Do you believe it is the woman who was Fredrick Hathaway’s right-hand man?"

Aiden jerks his head. "No, I think it is a different woman. This part owner may be a relative of his."

"Hmm," Dalton hummed. "Why can’t we find his identity. "

"Because he is as powerful as you. Or even more powerful."

Dalton twitches. Interest was piqued in his vicious green eyes. "I don’t care. I love the challenge. Having a worthy opponent is intriguing."

"A worthy opponent, indeed. Who is invisible to you, Dalton. I think he is a dangerous Mafia boss. "

Dalton didn’t like the sound of it. "Mafia dudes are too dangerous and slippery to handle."

"He had taken precautions to ensure that I would not discover him. To make that happen, he must have taken absurd measures. " Aiden says, grunting.

"I am forced to wait for him to make a move before tackling him." Dalton laments.

" Unfortunately, you have no other choice. Thus dude is making me feel inferior. For the first time, I have failed to identify someone, even though I am the best tracker and identity unmasker". Aiden ego has been crushed.

"This is the second time you have failed to reveal someone’s identity. You still have not located Maya’s biological father." Dalton reminded him.

"Gosh darn, these two men. They are putting me out of my job." Aiden Inveigh

" Continue digging. I trust you will at least find Maya’s father."

Aiden drew his fist to his chin. "All I need is a hint. Nothing so far."

The notification bell on Aiden’s phone beeps. Unlocking it, he read the message that had been sent to him.

Suddenly, his face went completely white.

"You seem terrified. Who sent the message?" Dalton inquired, worried.

"It’s from my private investigator. He said Vico has returned."

Dalton’s face also went pale. "Vico?" The boogeyman of his life. The man who was was the head of the rival Mafia clan that massacred the Mafia clan his father worked for. The man who murdered his father and kidnapped Aiden and him.

Aiden’s puffs with berserk rage. His eyes gleamed with the intensity and desire to kill. He thrust his fork into his food repeatedly. He had the same mad look he had when he hunted and killed all the men involved in their kidnapping and torture.

"I’m going to kill him" Aiden growls psychotically." He is going to kill Vico the mastermind behind their kidnapping, the man who destroyed their childhood.

"We are going to kill him." Dalton deadly said. Vico may be the second man he will kill in his life.
