The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 53: in her arms
Chapter 53: in her arms
Another two weeks passed quickly, like a bottle of wine. During that time, Dalton took three trips to Europe and Asia. He has just returned from his trip to Singapore and has decided to take a break from traveling for a while. He instructed Haven to cancel all his schedules and trips, as he is taking a month off to spend time with his girl.
Dalton stepped out of his car to see suitcases and boxes decorating the entrance of his mansion. "What is all this commotion about?" Dalton asked one of the house staff members who was carrying a suitcase inside.
"Sir, these are your brothers’ luggages. They are moving in," she informed him.
Dalton ground his teeth in annoyance as he glanced to his right and saw his brothers gathered, engaged in conversation.
He matched over to them with intensity like an angry bull. "What the hell is this? I have told you countless times that I don’t want any of you living with me."
They halted their conversation and turned to look at Dalton.
Aiden grinned. "Maya has recovered, so she’s back to cooking! I want to enjoy her food. That’s why I’m moving in."
"Same here. I’m here for her pastries," Oliver said, chuckling. "And I’m off for a week. Living here is the best way to spend my one-week vacation."
"Well, I’m here because you took my company, froze my bank accounts, and you also took all my houses and everything I own, leaving me bankrupt and homeless," River stated with a bitter chuckle.
"You took everything he owns?" Aiden sounded confused. "I thought you were only taking his company from him."
"I needed him to have no resources available to use for his whoring activities," Dalton explained.
Aiden burst into laughter.
"You are doing this to punish him for being a womanizer? You never cared about his playboy lifestyle—why now?" Oliver asked, looking confused.
"Well, ask your twin brother what he did," Dalton was irritated.
"River allowed a girl to drug him and used him to obtain my house security codes. As a result, my house was invaded, and the invaders stole something important belonging to Dalton," Aiden told Oliver, mixing half-truths with lies.
"Serves you right, River," Oliver said, looking at his twin brother with disappointment. He was a lost course.
Dalton turned to leave, eager to see Maya.
"Don’t worry, we will give you and your girl privacy. We will only disturb her if we need food," Dalton heard River joke.
Dalton was now considering sealing River’s mouth as well.
"Maya," Dalton called out as he stood impatiently behind her door.
"It’s open," Maya replied from inside.
Dalton turned the doorknob and stepped inside.
Maya was nestled comfortably in bed, a cozy blanket draped over her legs. Her eyes were fixated on the TV in her room, and the scent of popcorn she was eating lingered in the air.
Maya looked up and smiled. "I miss you," she said, pouting her lips.
"I miss you too. I’m sorry I left you all alone," he said remorsefully
"It’s okay; your work is important," Maya said, coming off dejected.
"No, you are more important than anything in my life. I just wanted to give you some space to recover, so I buried myself in work while you rested," Dalton said, peering at her face. She looked a lot better.
"Okay," Maya smiled, relieved. "Join me." She tapped on the bed.
Dalton climbed onto the bed.
"Lie in my lap," Maya gently requested.
Dalton obliged and sprawled across Maya’s lap, his head resting against her thigh.
He didn’t speak as he gazed intensely at Maya’s pretty face, lost in her eyes, feeling trapped.
As they watched the movie playing on the TV, Maya absentmindedly ran her fingers through Dalton’s hair.
Dalton, feeling the warmth of being in Maya’s lap, lets out a contented sigh, his eyes half-closed and completely at ease. Maya glances down at him, a smile tugging at her lips. Dalton takes in the peaceful expression on her face. Being with her makes him feel euphoric. Six months is way too long. He wants to ask her to be his wife right now at this moment, lying in her lap.
The film’s plot thickens, and Maya is completely engrossed in the story. However, every now and then, Dalton catches Maya stealing a glance at him. He admires the way her eyelashes flutter with each subtle reaction as she looks at him. He can’t help but feel a rush swell in his heart.
Dalton was so exhausted from his trip that he was dozing off in Maya’s lap.
As the tension in the movie built, he mumbled something incoherent, causing Maya to chuckle softly.
Maya reached for a handful of popcorn, causing Dalton to stir and crack one eye open to look up at her, with a sleepy face. Maya popped a piece of popcorn into her mouth, savoring the buttery flavor. She playfully nudged his shoulder. "Want some?"
Dalton shook his head in refusal.
Dalton got out of Maya’s lap and sat up straight to keep himself from falling asleep. "Did you see the will I left on your bed before leaving for Singapore?" Dalton asked, his voice thick with sleep.
"Yeah, thanks. I now know my mom loved me just as she loved my siblings."
"I can buy your sister out and make you the sole owner of your mother’s mansion," Dalton offered.
Maya shook her head. "No, my mother would turn in her grave if I did that. She left the house for all of us. It was her decision before she passed away. I would be going against her wishes if I became the sole owner."
"If that’s your wish," Dalton said as he lay back in Maya’s lap. He draped his arm around her waist, making himself more comfortable, and started dosing off again. Maya wrapped a blanket around both of them. As she resumed watching the movie, the world outside faded away as they got lost in the story and each other’s presence.
