Chapter 46: At a disadvantage

Dalton called his crime boss friend, Marcello, to ask for his help in disposing of the bodies, as he usually did.

Marcello sent his men, and they took care of the dead bodies of Fredrick Hathaway and his son.

Dalton’s mind was filled with angry thoughts, and his heart beat with rage.

But what keeps bugging Dalton is the words ’Maya is precious to me too.’

The text message from the "New Villain" infuriates him. The audacity of this unknown enemy, who arrogantly believes that Dalton Black would be afraid of anyone, is astounding. What a fool this unknown enemy is. Dalton is determined to find him and demonstrate why everyone fears him.

Who is this enemy? Or the new villain as he calls himself, and why does he care about Maya? Dalton kept pondering this question. At least he doesn’t have to worry about this enemy hurting Maya; it seems that he only wants to hurt him.

But he wouldn’t let his guard down.

Dalton finally listened to Oliver. He hadn’t seen Maya for a week, even though they were living in the same mansion. He told Oliver to inform her that he was going on another business trip, giving her the space to rest. Meanwhile, he locked himself in his study, buried in work, as he waited for Aiden to bring him some good news about the investigation he was conducting.

Aiden walked in sluggishly, with heavy bags under his eyes. Dalton noticed how tired Aiden looked but didn’t give it much thought as he threw a question at him. "Did you find anything useful?"

Aiden leaned his hip against the desk and shook his head. "We are at a disadvantage."

Dalton paused. "Meaning?"

"I didn’t find any clues that would lead us to discover the identity of this enemy. Absolutely nothing."

"Then what did you do the whole week?" Dalton shouted in frustration at his brother.

"Bro, easy, easy. At least I found out how they got the codes to unlock my door...." Aiden paused, hesitating to tell Dalton.

"How?"

Aiden blew out air from his mouth. "It was that man-whore, River, who drunkenly was lured into my house by a girl right after I left to kidnap Fredrick Hathaway’s son. From the CCTV footage I reviewed, River dialed the code, and the girl got the code. I try finding that girl, but it’s like she is a ghost. "

"God, I will kill that womanizer when I get my hands on him! He deprived me of the chance to torture and kill Fredrick Hathaway myself," Aiden laments.

"I will take his company away from him and leave him bankrupt," Dalton said. He is going to do just that to teach River a lesson for aiding that unknown enemy in carrying out his plans.

Aiden smirked. "Doctor Oliver won’t like that."

Dalton shrugged. "I don’t care."

Aiden laughed. "I can’t wait for that man whore to lose his company."

Suddenly, Aiden stopped laughing. "There is a problem."

"What problem?"

"There is a new owner of the Venus City Gentlemen’s Club, but his identity is unknown. He has replaced all the staff and the girls working there. Now, the gentlemen’s club is exclusively for wealthy foreign men that the new owner knows, particularly Italians."

Then Dalton realized something. "This unknown enemy is the new owner of the gentlemen’s club."

"I think so too," Aiden agreed.

"Dalton, I don’t want to hurt your ego, but this guy seems to have the same level of power as you do. Yesterday, I tried every persuasive method I could think of to uncover his identity, but no one seemed willing to reveal it even with their lives on the line....."

"What about the woman you said was Fredrick Hathaway’s right-hand man?" Dalton asked, interrupting him.

"She disappeared without a trace. Man, we are really at a disadvantage here," wariness filled Aiden’s face.

Dalton remained unconcerned and unafraid of this new enemy who had entered his life despite being at a disadvantage.

"He said that on his next move, we will learn his identity. Once we know who he is, we will destroy him." Dalton declared.

"What about Maya’s former colleagues? I mean her friends. Have you found them?" Dalton asked, wanting to interrogate them because he didn’t trust them.

"Yes, they’re in my car; I’ve locked them in," Aiden replied. Maya had begged Aiden to find Natalia and Laura.

"Bring them into my study without Nana Rose or Oliver seeing them," Dalton instructed.

"Oliver is in the hospital; he has surgery to perform. I don’t know about Nana Rose, so I’ll use the back door," Aiden replied before leaving to fetch them.

Minutes later, Aiden returned with Natalia and Laura.

"You said you were taking us to see Maya. What the hell are we doing in this office?" Natalia snapped at Aiden.

Dalton studied Natalia. Maya had told him a lot about her, but Maya’s good words couldn’t stop him from being suspicious of Natalia.

"My brother wants to speak to both of you," Aiden tells them.

Laura stiffened as she turned her gaze to Dalton, while Natalia maintained a stern expression. Without hesitation, Dalton began his interrogation. "Where were you when Maya was kidnapped?"

Natalia was the one who answered, "Well, after we had dinner together that night, Maya left without telling us. Thirty minutes later, she texted to inform us that she was going to Argentina for a cooking competition, and it was a last-minute decision."

"What about you?" Dalton directed the question at Laura. She looked nervous.

"I... I don’t know.... After dinner, I was helping Natalia with the dishes, but I received a call and went to the bedroom to take it. When I came back, Maya was gone, and I received the same text message."

Dalton’s eyes remain fixed on Natalia and Laura, watching them like an owl.

He also received the same text message. The only difference is that Fredrick Hathaway wants him to believe that Laura and Natalia went to Argentina with Maya. So maybe they are telling the truth. But he believes one of them is lying

There’s a nagging feeling that prevents him from trusting them, especially Natalia. He believes she is hiding something. As for Laura, she comes across as innocent, but he never trusts an innocent face—except for Maya, because she is an angel.

"Can we go see Maya now?" Natalia asked impatiently.

Dalton nodded at Aiden.

"Alright, girls, follow me," Aiden led them to Maya’s room.

Dalton planned to keep an eye on Natalia and Laura, watching their every move.
