The Billionaire's Hidden Affection-Chapter 617 - 614: Proposal 1_1
"..."
She was frantic. "So you really do have someone new? I knew it; that’s why you’ve been gone for so long! Quick, tell me who it is! I’m going to find that woman and get rid of her immediately..."
"What nonsense are you talking? I’m much older than you, and men generally have shorter lifespans than women. I’m just worried..."
Worried about that?
She couldn’t help but give him a once-over. No matter how she looked at him, he seemed well-built and devilishly handsome, and so young. Besides, the line between a man in his thirties and forties is hardly noticeable; it’s impossible to tell at a glance.
Suddenly, she remembered. "Hey, big ol’ cheap man, how old *are* you?"
"..."
"Quick, show me your ID. I still don’t actually know how old you are."
He grinned. "What’s there to see? I’ve always been 25."
"Who do you think you are, Tan Yonglin?"
She paused to think. She really hadn’t paid much attention to his age before. 35? 38? 40?
"Big ol’ cheap man, how old are you really?"
"HEH HEH, that’s a secret."
Honestly, this guy! Only women go to such lengths to keep their age a secret. He’s a grown man; why would he be so secretive about it?
"Quick, let me see your ID! It’s not fair. You’ve seen mine, but I don’t know yours, right?"
"Get it yourself."
She lazily draped herself around his neck. His embrace felt so cool and refreshing; she couldn’t be bothered to dart off and search. Forget it; who cares how old he is! 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Xixi, I’m getting old, and you’re still young. What will you do then?"
She let out a sigh of relief, completely unconcerned. "It’s not like you’re ancient and I’m a kid. Why are you worrying so much? Big ol’ cheap man, they say a man at forty is in his prime. Aren’t you right in your prime now?"
He spoke earnestly, "Xixi, you need to remember one thing: it’s good to have others help you, no matter what it is. But if there’s no one to help you, you absolutely must have the ability to do things yourself. This world never truly pities the weak."
Her eyebrows shot up again; she looked like she wanted to say something but then didn’t.
So, was that why? Instead of just giving her a large sum of cash to be done with it, he opened a shop to let her learn how to run a business? Or was it for her to study and get an impressive degree as a stepping stone?
But she was still puzzled. "Big ol’ cheap man, I keep feeling like you’ve been acting a bit odd lately."
He glowered at her. "Haven’t I always been a bit odd? Why is it only today that you find me strange?"
She just snorted.
He sighed inwardly, but his tone softened as he changed the subject. "Xixi, you’ve been cooped up for so long. Where do you want to go have some fun?"
She jumped up with a cheer. "When are we going to the university?"
He paused for a moment. "As soon as possible."
"Great! I also want to go a bit earlier to get familiar with the surroundings, and then do some sightseeing."
He’d originally wanted to say something else, but he readily agreed. "You really should go get familiar with it sooner rather than later. Otherwise, you’ll always be this timid. You little trickster, I actually thought you were completely fearless, but who knew you were such a scaredy-cat..."
She muttered, "Well, you know how it is—goods are prized away from home, but people feel out of place. Maybe once I’ve been there for a while and gotten used to it, I won’t be scared anymore."
"You always have to take that first step, no matter what it is. Once you get past that, everything will be fine."
She laughed too.
Just then, he suddenly stood up and took out an exquisite box.
Her eyes sparkled. "Big ol’ cheap man, did you bring me another gift?"
He just smiled without saying a word.
She opened the box herself and, upon seeing its contents, cried out in delight, "Oh my God, this is absolutely beautiful!"
